  • The city of Detroit planned to demolish the civil rights icon's house but Ryan Mendoza, an artist, bought it for 500 dollars. The house was dismantled and taken to Berlin, where it was rebuilt.

China Fleming It shows how much BLACK FOLKS feel about THEIR HISTORY. (1) Detroit is well over 50% black. (2) Detroit has had black mayors, black City Council. (3) Black Detroiters have over 1 Billion in disposable income yearly. In a city where Air Jordan's and hair weaves are valued more than the Rosa Parks House.

The Rosa L. (McCauley) and Raymond Parks Flat, or simply the Rosa Parks Flat, is a two-story brick duplex located at 3201-3203 Virginia Park Street in Detroit, Michigan. The building is significant as the home of civil rights icon Rosa Parks, who lived in the first floor flat with her husband Raymond from 1961 to 1988. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.

People are bitching because the house was moved out of country. Last I heard a house did not help civil rights. Who cares if the house was destroyed. What she did to help the civil rights movement is still being taught in schools and is not going away anytime soon. What she did matters not a house she lived in...

Thank you Mr. Mendoza for keeping an important part of our history alive even though our current government does not appreciate it. Hopefully the future generations will undo what this current government is destroying.

It was NOT the American government, it was the government of the city of Detroit.

This was NOT Rosa Parks house. It belonged to her brother.
I know a lot of people are emotionally tied to this story and are not interested in facts, but here it goes. Rosa Parks only lived in this house (her brother's) for a short time after leaving Montgomery, AL. She herself lived in a neighborhood, Virginia Park when she worked as secretary and receptionist to John Conyers, an African-American US Representative. She also lived with her mother in an apartment for the elderly until her mother died in 1979. After being robbed in her own home in 1994 she moved to Riverfront Towers, a high-rise apartment complex. She died in her apartment in 2005 at the age of 92.
Contrary to what Ryan Mendoza wants you to believe, Rosa Parks is one of the most celebrated civil rights leader next to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Also, Mendoza states that Germany has learned to live with their past but I lived in Germany for 5 years and never saw an "Anne Franks Straße (German for street)".

George Washington has several homes that are on the national historic registry that he only slept in a night. By the way, he also owned hundreds of enslaved people. Great guy to celebrate.

You mean to tell me that out of all the black people, black celebrities, black businesses and so many others nobody wanted to preserve this amazing piece of history. This is beyond sad and speaks volumes of how Black People only care about trivial things. I guess their to busy trying to buy up Versace, Gucci, Chanel, Fendi, Prada, Dior and Louis Vuitton.

This is a perfect example of the type of American liberal that gets a warm fuzzy feeling of self-righteousness when he can find ways (like this one) to kick his own country around. If this artist is such a dedicated civil rights advocate, maybe he should move the house back to Detroit and live in it. He could take in homeless people and drug addicts and teach them about how bad things are in America, but he already has a big audience for that in Berlin, and they pay.
