- In this episode of FLY TV, Niklaus Bauer goes float tube pike fly fishing in Holland together with Marc Zitvast from Smartlures.nl. It's early spring and the pike haven't started spawning yet so they're searching the pike quite close to the spawning areas.
They manage to catch some nice fish and at the end of the day, Marc hooks into something really spectacular...

Tonnes more fun! If I'm in water less than 30' I go to the fly rod first. Nothing beats the feeling of a take on a fly rod!!

Deep water fly fishing- that was something I was looking for!
I have one more question. How long is your leader? I thought that you have to had short leader to have your fly below your line. Am i right? Maybe you can use long leader if you load down you fly enough?
Hi Sebastian The faster the sinking line we use the shorter the leader we use, on a sink 5 i use 30-50cm of nylon and around 50cm of wire trace.

How do you attach your sonars to the float tubes/where is the battery?

Very great video and nice pike. Is a good motivator for my holiday in sweden when I go with the fly on pike. Which color samples are the most catchy right now and have the pigs in sweden already spawned? Where are the pike currently in what deep?
+ZeroBravo3 they are done with their spawning in the south of Sweden, but in the north there are a couple of weeks left since the ice is still there. Very tricky to say either they have spawned or not. So easily said: in south yes, in north no 😉 tight lines, were looking forward to see some reports from your trip to Sweden! 😃

Leave spawning fish alone
Closed season mean that you have to release the fish in the same water. Till 31th of March you are allowed to fish for pike in the Netherlands
How much in euro to go fishing in holland
depends on what you want, however if I were you I would go to another country were pikes are more common and less caught. Holland is a small country, a lot of lakes are visited by a lot of anglers making it harder and harder to catch pike. Also some lakes are damaged by pro-anglers fishing with big nets. The largest lake in holland is devastated by pro-angling with nets. Now they have to make recovery plans to get populations back.
Hi Patrick There is still a lot of pike in the lakes in Holland. Just fish the right spots and you will catch some nice pikes. Last season with in 200 hours of fishing more then 200 pikes caught and 27 of meter plus pike. So I think average size is just good in Holland. Just fish the right spots and there is plenty of water. We don't have the numbers like for example in Sweden but the average size is better. And best time is end of September till the end of Februari.
Marc Zitvast the lakes are too small and we have one million sportfisherman.. if you want to catch fish in the future then people need to spread out more. When i go to a lake in the weekend i see 15 to 20 boats on the ramp..
Maybe you need to try some other spots. There are still a lot of spots were not many people fish. And not all people are fishing for pike. And the pike you today you can also catch tomorrow!!!
