nice one MrB.,.I know there are a good few out there suffering. mines the Ghost,not the S model but has done this freeze thing a couple times also!...or something very similar,thought for sure it was recording then nothing!!allways tend to switch it on then give it a few moments to sort itself out before hitting record anyway...end of the ay its an operating system like any pc or laptop or phone has,needs time to boot up!!.....ride safe buddy..bizz

I've got the ghost as well, never experienced any freezing because I've always left it on for half a minute or so before recording whilst putting gloves on. Now I know why I is perfect 😉
I have this camera, and I've never had any issues with it over the past year or so I've owned it, but I've surely used it very little compared to you. I'm not sure If I've even hit record that soon after powering it up, so for all I know my camera may have this issue, but I've never experienced it because of this. Great tip for sure, and if I ever do experience that I'll keep this in mind, thanks!

It's definitely a tryer of patience mate, I have discovered that my Drift Ghost S freezes when I use the remote to stop recrding, then start recording again too soon after.
I noticed that, after you press stop on the remote, the remote blinks red for about another 5 seconds before going green. IF I start recording again during that 5 seconds then the camera will almost alweays freeze. If I wait more than 5 seconds (until the remote is flashing green again) before I start recording again it NEVER freezes! I've been using this method for about a month now.
Sounds similar, it's like the software needs time to "warm up" or settle.
+CaptainCranky Yeah, I find you need to wait 30 second between recording, plus it cant record seamless, always lost about 4 seconds between files :(

Have had the Ghost S for a few years... kept on freezing up, so I haven't used it for quite a while. Went for a ride recently and decided to give it another go. The main part of my ride was lost... The damn thing froze up again. Will try the 'give it a minute or two to warm up before hitting record' method. Tnx for the heads-up!
Mine seems to be working well with this too. I haven't had a single crash, wohoo!
I've sorted most of the other things too. I will have to do a video with them all in.

+Mr & Mrs B's Brain Dump I keep meaning to do a video of my set up. Will probably do it when the weather turns, along with some new video editing videos. That said, I'm pretty low tech. People might be surprised by my way of dealing with sound. Hint - 80p for a dozen from B&M!
I solved the same problem with the normal drift. Formatting through my laptop has also helped. It was freezing for me though.

One of the problems is the cameras software,their formatting software is utter arse,format using your pc with card still in camera, and you only need to wait about 5-10 seconds once its turned on so it gives the camera time to set up properly.
+cestrianvlogger My Sony cams always record with no issues, just seems drift needs more time before you hit record, which is fine once you know! - I nearly binned mine!

Hey dude. I have the same Drift camera. My green light just stays on. You cant switch the camera off, the green light stays on with no other function to be had.. I had the camera for over a year now with no issues and then went to switch off after a good ride, nothing, just stays on green. Any ideas why. There's nothing in the manual to say otherwise. Cheers
I've been having similar crashing problems with my old Drift HD 1080. I think part of the problem for me has to do with my power-tethering setup which has been deteriorating from use and age, but I still want to try this to see if it helps! Thanks for sharing!

I did that always before my first cam freeze up- but now got camera freeze on permanent red. Your solution is not 100% feasible!
Yep same. I usually turn it on. Turn the remote on. Put my gloves on. Hit record and by then it's ok.
Some times when I turn it on I still get random "movie recovery?"
+brokenlegz I get the recovery only when it dies from no battery, it works. But if it crashes it never recovers.

It's the same with all the drift's i've owned, if you press record before it has a chance to finish it's start up it will crash.

Honestly the amount of hassle i had when i first got mine almost put me off using the damn thing!
I was blaming everything from wonky memory cards to geo-magnetic fields cos nothing was consistent except the freezing.
An expensive memory card and formatting from the pc seemed to curtail the worst of it.
So simple patience is the answer..... who'd have thunk it!

Mine is a piece of shit.
It looks like it's recording but then locks up and gives me a 'recover video?' message.
So I recover the video, successfully, but it doesn't do fuck all.
No video.
