  • Travelling down the "moderate" rated dirt road into Sedona. Prepare for a chuckle as I grossly under estimated how rocky this road became. Stay for the 4k footage of the beautiful Sedona area.

I have done this road probably a hundred times since the 70s. Usually high clearance trucks, a few jeeps and many times on my motorcycles. Only car I’ve ever done it in was an old Subaru station wagon, but it had a 6 inch lift and big tires. Pretty damn impressive you did it in a stock Rav ! It’s truly one of the most beautiful drives in our state! Thank you for sharing your experience! Just as an fyi, at the bottom is one of the best rv parks, Rancho Sedona!

Thank You for posting this video. We were the group of Jeeps in your video. We're members of the Flint Hills Jeep Club out of Kansas. I'm glad to see you made it down with very little trail rash. My wife and I were in the last jeep, white one, named "Salty Pearl". We'll share your video with others. Safe Wheeling👍

Well nice to meet you! I think you passed us twice, once coming up and then going back down. We had to go a lot slower than you! Haha. It was a beautiful trail, and yes we survived. My husband might not trust my judgement for when I pick the next trail! Let me know the next time your in the New Mexico area, would love to travel with you. Even though we are sadly not a Jeep. We looked at a 4runner yesterday and the dealership wanted $69k for it. Needless to say we didnt fall for the "c19" price and will just keep adventuring our little Rav. ;) Thank you for commenting!

Thank you for this! This video best captures what we experienced in 2018 - five of us in a Hyundai Santa Fe. One good paint scrape near the back bumper from a gorgeous and nervy 2-3 hour drive from 17 into Sedona. Like you, we turned into the Schnebly Hill Trailhead lot, and I put the vehicle in park, stepped out, and kissed the pavement. The drive is a great, lifelong memory, but I also felt like an idiot at the time.

Now this road is the benchmark to all our trails. "Is it as bad as Schnebly Hill Rd?" If not, we can do it! Or we need that 2'' lift so we can go back to Schnebly Hill Rd! Whats adventure without a little pucker factor? ;p

This was my family and I in 2017 in a 2016 rental Durango. About 2.5 hours down.

Back in 2007 a U. S. Park service volunteer told me that I would have no problem going up and over in my rental 2007 Chevrolet Impala. I had no idea what I was getting into but me and my girl made it over safely with no visible damage to the car only our nerves.

You bet! Glad we could help you be informed. We were not...hence why it was a white knuckle experience.

If people don't stop to ask why you're in such a vehicle. then you're fine! I did this in a Ford Edge, everyone stopped!!

We had a few Jeep guys stop to ask if we needed help, but we assured them, we did this on purpose! Just crazy like that I suppose! Ha!

Will it make it? Ya, no problem. Will you have to bottom out a few times? Probably unless you have a spotter and lots of time

I took my stock 2wd '97 Isuzu Rodeo with my kids riding in their car seats and my wife's anxiety making me laugh the whole way. I only paid $1,400 for the truck and it's not a primary vehicle, so I wasn't too worried. If the kids weren't in back I'm sure I could have added a leak or two, but the little rodeo made it with no cuts or bruises. I saw a Prius on my way down that got further than you'd expect, and they hiked the rest of the way to the overlook. The road is definitely wide enough to turn around at any point, so there's no reason anyone shouldn't try it in any vehicle if they want. Plus there's so much traffic that, worst case scenario, you won't be stranded. There was nothing too slick or too steep, I'm sure there's a lot of guys with selectable 4x4 that just leave it in 2wd. I think the less capable your vehicle is, the more fun you can have. I think that throwing a full skid plate under a civic and trying to catch up to a jeep would be a blast
