Instead of making fusses and getting for free out of kindness. These are small businesses, hardworking and kind people. I think you know there will be issues, and the locals are kind people
Hello Alan and Shannon: I absolutely love your food adventures. Two thumbs up. I hope to see more food adventures from China. You two are brave... stinky tofu is definitely not for every palate, in a similar manner Blue Cheese or Durian isn't.
I discovered your channel through Backpacker Ben and have been thoroughly enjoying it. It is great watching you guys enjoy everything and each other whilst inhaling so much good food. Gets ya right in the feels. Safe travels!
Some vendors do not accept Alipay bound to foreign cards. Most do but not all. Some foreigners would ask a local friend (or hotel front desk) to transfer some RMB into the main Alipay RMB Wallet (you just give them the equivalent cash).
The communication is awesome. Amazing to know Scottish eat pig blood sausage. They said Europeans don't eat blood and organs. This is probably the meaning of travel and sharing.

The leaves are perilla leaves. They’re common in Asian BBQ places. Common in Korean BBQ places and if you ever make it to Dongbei in China their BBQ has it too. So they’ll grill the meat and you eat it wrapped in perilla leaves or lettuce. Do not deep dry lol :)
I really recommend you bringing some cash with you just in case alipay not working sometimes. It’s illegal to deny cash so paying cash should be fine in China.

I ate it once, but it wasn't black. The stand that sold it smelled like sewage, though, so I was expecting the worst. However, once the tofu was fried it didn't smell that bad at all, and it tasted like regular deep-fried tofu that was a little fermented. All in all, it tasted OK, but I was disappointed that it didn't have a stronger taste.
pork blood sausage (black pudding) is a common food in the northeast of China. I think a lot of places share similar food concepts due to similarities of climate and stuff, I always find it very interesting when different cultures share similar concepts
In China if we eat too much deep fried food, we will drink some herbal tea to “ 下火”,it means clear the internal heat caused by the food. So, it would be very interesting if you guys try to drink some berbal tea and react. It’s easy to find in Guangdong and Guangxi Provinces.
Think of blue cheese when you eat stinky tofu. Its basically a similar idea, except one is made from fermenting milk solids and one is made from fermenting tofu. It is an acquired taste. However different street vendors make it differently so maybe this version didn't taste so good.
