      I think it's most likely he was trying to cheat but he never got caught. His behavior just happens to look like someone who is marking cards, and then standing up during heads up to check the lighting to see if his marked cards are owned by the opponent. It's too much of a coincidence. And they can always demand the chip count and it has to be accurate. There is no need to stand up to stare down at opponents cards and chips in different reflective lighting.

Dan Smith should man up and apologise. As for Robl, even if he doesn't have to pay up, perhaps he watch his mouth in future. I hope he pays and learns about responsibility and consequences.

    A couple thoughts. First one being-Doug-what you are doing for the poker community is great. I like how you used your platform to get multiple opinions on this issue-and most importantly-gave the person who the scandal is about a chance to get his story across. The media could use balanced journalism like this.
    Secondly-I’m glad you did this interview-because my gut instinct was to consider banning him moving forward. This interview swayed where I stand. If the house was called and nothing was found or determined wrong-I think he deserves to be allowed to play. He also sounded like he would be receptive to having players talk with him directly if they find any of his antics annoying. I would prefer that he doesn’t stand over players-as even in professional sports like the NBA or the NFL-standing over somebody is a taunting penalty. He might claim that he’s never been “rude”-but that can absolutely be interpreted as “rude behavior” imo. He probably just needs to be told not to press the cards and to remain seated moving forward.

    I love this interview. I am not a fan of Martin, but I am glad everyone gets a fair chance to give their side of the story. The language barrier aside, it's a very fair interview and Doug did a good job of asking questions proper, and then letting Martin answer, without interrupting. Not got ya reporting.
    And given I have Asperger's, I can understand ticks and being odd at a table. I have never considered playing this high of stakes and have no clue how I would react to the pressure of such enormous sums of money are on the line with each decision, but I appreciate that Martin realizes he has his own ticks, can be annoying, and isn't always orthodox.
    That said, I don't know if he truly cheated, and if after scrutinizing the cards, the venue finds no signs of fowl play, I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt. Of course every action in a casino is recorded, and if evidence ever comes that any cheat, casinos have a duty of care to their patrons, and it would be addressed I'm sure.

    Former law enforcement with a fair amout of training in observing people during interviews/interrogstiins, and there isnt one single indicator of deception in his answers. Generally, when someone is being deceptive, there are several indicators. He was very excited to answer all of the questions and didnt ever hesitate to think of his answer. He over answered everything without pause. What is clear is that Martin has some ticks, and likely explains his antics in live poker. Ive watched all the clips and there really wasnt much there except in a folded hand, and that one didnt look like he was actually trying to mark a card when he curled his fingers. That one seemed very much like a tick. Much respect for Martin, he faced his accusations head on, and doesnt seem to want anything other than to clear his name. Robl amd Smith need to appologize. There never was a shred of evidence, only alot of circumstantial bs that is easily explained away with some ticks. One thing thats clear is that he has a very high motor, and very well may be slightly on the Autism spectrum, but ever so slight, which may not even be enough to diagnose. I dont think any psycho analyst would diagnose him with the very few signs of it, but the high motor and low on spectrum explains the ticks and overtalk.

    • @1337murk
      @1337murk Před 11 měsíci +1

      Robl and Smith need to be checked for their prejudice. They're giving him all this shit because of his neurodivergency, hating the traits and actions of a neurodivergent person simply because they don't understand it.
      Neurodivergent brains are wired differently, to the extent it shows on brain scans. Also, interestingly enough if he did show awkwardness it wouldn't indicate lying, you can't go by normal indicators like that because neurodivergent people mask, all interaction with neurodivergent people is accompanied by acting because social cues are not registered, its all guesswork and inserting things based on pattern recognition, not following the expected cues. Even if he acted awkward about it, or seemed 'off', wouldn't mean he is guilty.
      Another thing to consider is that neurodivergents suffer visual distortions, can be harder to judge distance, angles, etc.. in some cases it could be harder for them to look at and count others stacks visually.
      Dan Smith and Robl are coming across as ignorant ablests, can't be too mad at someone over their lack of education, but being a poker player dealing with incomplete information as a job, should be accompanied by some better critical thinking.

    • @1337murk
      @1337murk Před 11 měsíci +1

      Oh BTW the spectrum doesn't work how you think it does, there isn't a 'less or more'.. different people have different challenges to different degrees but it isn't a linear line of less > more like you're assuming it is. Just thought I should point that out.
      Plus you're not seeing the extent of someone's neurodivergency, you're seeing their masking, the acting like a 'regular human'.
      Autistic here (if you haven't guessed already).

    Watched the whole thing. I know it’s hard to listen to him for such a long period such is 1 hour and it would be even harder in Czech language, trust me 😂
    I know Martin for many,many years. I worked a lot of tournaments and cash games as a floor. It’s “hard” to handle him, ‘cause he is not really breaking any rules. Only thing floor can do is to cut the “time” call to whatever 15,10 seconds, since he’s really taking a long time sometimes. But it’s everyone’s right to call the time on him and it’s floors decision if the clock called on him is/is not reasonable..
    That he is “rude” to people is also not really right, he has his sense of humor which someone like and someone don’t. I also played couple low buyin tournaments with him and I enjoyed the jokes and he also drove me mad with taking so much time each hand. As mentioned above, we solved it with calling clock and telling him and he “cut the time” for the decisions in upcoming hands.
    About the cheating stuff.. Never.. As a floor (and I worked tournaments from 200€ up to 100k€ where he played) I can only say, that marked cards would be found after the tournament, we would check the cameras and he’d be caught.

    • @mini9t
      @mini9t Před 11 měsíci

      @@Youpeeipay Well, it depends on the place/poker club/casino. I worked in smaller casinos and even it those, decks are checked for marks or damage on them and damaged cards replaced with good ones (not saying new ones every time. Some clubs/casinos are replacing cards to save obv and use those for tournaments). But on bigger buyin tournaments or CG, they always start the game with brand new deck. And especially the bigger the buyin is, the more the decked is checked and if anything suspicious is found, the surveillance guys would watch the cameras and definitely found where/who the problem is..
      However, I only worked the events in Europe (EPT, WPT, WSOP etc.) and never in Vegas, so I can’t really say what the procedure in Vegas is..
      What I’m saying is, if Martin would be cheating throughout his ~15yrs career, he would be 100% caught by now in Europe’s events.
