You know it’s a serious day when Doug puts on his sport coat.
A very odd individual but seems like a genuinely nice guy. He made some very legitimate points about people who are casually willing to destroy someone's reputation with zero 'factual' evidence. After this interview I am absolutely confident that he is NOT GUILTY.
Digging your nails into cards is evidence.... standing up, and leaning completely over the table to see people's cards is evidence....especially after a rule was made "no standing during a hand" .....

he's incredibly entertaining
he is good at tilting player and he makes them hard to calm down, that it disrupts your own style and technique, just a little bit it does affect very much.
To be honest, his "crazy" high energy personality kind of supports the idea that he might do slightly crazy stuff at the table.
I think it's most likely he was trying to cheat but he never got caught. His behavior just happens to look like someone who is marking cards, and then standing up during heads up to check the lighting to see if his marked cards are owned by the opponent. It's too much of a coincidence. And they can always demand the chip count and it has to be accurate. There is no need to stand up to stare down at opponents cards and chips in different reflective lighting.
He for SURE cheated but poker people are manlets that will believe anything someone says with passion 😂
Imagine getting knocked out in a HIGH ROLLER TOURNAMENT..... And while almost crying calling your opponent a cheater..... Poor Form! Doyle Brunson is rolling !!!

Well done Martin super tilted people who thought they could never ever super tilt 😂
My read is that we just heard the truth. My initial read on Dan Smith was that his ego was bruised when he busted and he said something stupid about "ban that guy" because he was tilted. Dan Smith should man up and apologise. As for Robl, even if he doesn't have to pay up, perhaps he watch his mouth in future. I hope he pays and learns about responsibility and consequences.

@DougPolkPoker I think the other players let Martin get to them and to be honest if he was targeting me I'd probably let my emotions get the best of me but that would be on me and the other players

This interview made me not be able to stand him because of the pace of his speech and stammering, I started watching this 6 days ago and I just finished it because he’s like nails on a chalk board to listen to lol. I still think he did try to mark the cards but whether he was successful or not is hard to show
Thanks for doing this interview. Martin has definitely been made the villain of the tournament poker community and nice to hear from the man himself. Also I find it funny that the biggest name callers are the ones I personally think are quite douchy themselves 😅. Hopefully we will see Martin at the tables on the future also!
Martin really won me over as a person today. The idea he was marking cards is ridiculous. Ivey would have spotted it right away. Who marks cards at a table with the world's most notorious edge sorter! 😂
The fact players complained to the floor(which is fine) then the floor assured the players no cheating was going on.. the story ends there. They surely checked the decks and there were no markings. What other tinfoil hat do people have?

Good for you Doug for having Martin on. You get a sub from me. Well done 👍
Doug that was a great interview. I subbed because of this. And your interview earlier. Getting both sides of the story. Really great questioning and trying to get to truth.
Just my opinion seems like it was a misunderstanding between players. And that happens when different personalities and nationalities get together especially when high stakes money is involved. He made a good point if there was an issue the other players should of called a floor manager to fix it. I’ve seen players do that when there was issues at table.
17:16 - 17:55 is what really sold me on Martins character. You can really hear the passion in his voice. Great interview, shame on these players for accusing him of cheating and calling for organizers to ban him with no hard evidence
R. Kelly was even more passionate in his infamous interview...

Martin is actually a lovely guy. Played with him a bunch in the olden EPT Prague days. He has ALWAYS done the same things, always trolling, very OCD touching chips, counting, trying to unsettle you... but he's just having fun. It's actually disgusting what these guys have done... if you are not happy with something a player is doing, call the floor, it's that simple. These are experienced super-pros and they didn't even call the floor? Are we supposed to believe they KNOW he cheats and yet never have said anything about it and no one has any proof? It's embarrassing, Dan Smith was almost crying... they are acting like a b*tch
Completely agree
Ya I lost respect for Dan not that I had much.
I agree 100%. when players say he has been doing this for years, what I hear is they believe the tournament directors are incompetent. Every deck is checked and they have never found marked cards, so.....whats more concerning is some of these players want to be on the jury to ban players in the industry they "believe" are cheating.

Yes he also played 100 Euro tournaments on rozvadov, won, walked back and put the whole winnings on roulette and walked away without looking. Also saw many other "strange" stuff. He was always like that.
It's no coincidence that the only player who didn't let Kabrel get under his skin won the tournament. These other so called "professionals " are a joke. Dont get me wrong, I don't blame the guy for trying to win a bunch of money in a casino while using any tactics he can (from amoral to illegal) but at the end of the day you are the one to blame for the "damage of your family and businesses" and not robl or any other victim of your actions.

For starters swapping percentages should be illegal in these large buy ins, it is a conflict of interest. I played against Martin many times in Kings. He's naturally quite a jittery guy with OCD. The way he played in the WSOP was the usual Martin. No doubt can be very annoying but these cheating allegations are just ridiculous. Dan Smith is great representation of the new snowflake poker community.
Dan Smith is an insufferable loser. Poker as a whole needs better representation. More people like Jason Koon etc.
And I’ve played w and been around Dan. I hear he’s a good guy…but my god is he pompous and arrogant to the extreme. It’s unbearable. He just has that I’m better than you vibe all the time. I’ve seen him needle ppl while playing, he thought it was funny and it is within his circle…but some ppl don’t find it funny. It’s been many years and it seems like he’s way more quiet at the table and doesn’t do stuff like that, but he still has that vibe in interviews etc. Dude is really annoying. “I HOPE YOU GET BARRED.” As he’s walking away from the table shaking e1 else’s hand. He’s very Karen-y.
Dan Smith acted the same way a couple years ago at the aria during poker masters vs Dominic Nitsche
Good for him to address this and clear his name. Especially difficult when English is a second language too.
Watching this guy made me better. I’m serious man the style of play and taking your time to think about things have really improved my game. I don’t do his annoying things, but his range and the way he can let cards go I have emulated and it has helped heaps.

A couple thoughts. First one being-Doug-what you are doing for the poker community is great. I like how you used your platform to get multiple opinions on this issue-and most importantly-gave the person who the scandal is about a chance to get his story across. The media could use balanced journalism like this.
Secondly-I’m glad you did this interview-because my gut instinct was to consider banning him moving forward. This interview swayed where I stand. If the house was called and nothing was found or determined wrong-I think he deserves to be allowed to play. He also sounded like he would be receptive to having players talk with him directly if they find any of his antics annoying. I would prefer that he doesn’t stand over players-as even in professional sports like the NBA or the NFL-standing over somebody is a taunting penalty. He might claim that he’s never been “rude”-but that can absolutely be interpreted as “rude behavior” imo. He probably just needs to be told not to press the cards and to remain seated moving forward.
Entertaining players like Martin is very good for the game. I dont watch boring player videos...
I find it interesting that people claim they have seen him marking cards but a) never say where b) never did anything about it at the time.
It was Chance who said something like "how can his girlfriend possibly be with this scumbag". What a douche. Yet a lot of you will still consider him the victim of this story.
He is right. His girlfriend probably even more on the spectrum
@ArninhoDuebelinho so being on the spectrum makes you a scumbag now? You're worse than chance.
Gold digger probably
Hey Martin, welcome to the "you're guilty and there's no way to prove otherwise" world of social media judge, jury and executioner.
Doug said he didn’t think he cheated right from the start..
Hey @pinballinc1752, welcome to the "literally no matter what you do, people will pretend like you didn't do it and are as big of a martyr as Nelson Mandela because you *checks notes* were a shitty human being while playing poker." This "woe is me, cancel culture will kill us all" act is super weird, disingenuous and old. If you need to twist logic so badly that Martin is the victim here, perhaps your logic is just kinda dogshit...?
@@ramprat5812 I don't think u understand
@@ramprat5812Doug’s conclusion is that he is intentionally trying to look like he is cheating. He either thinks he’s cheating or purposely appearing that way. Yeah, Doug said he didn’t think he cheated, but it’s only because he didn’t get caught, but acknowledged he is either cheating or intentionally appearing to. This isn’t about an internet mob. Doug’s one of the best players in the business and it looked so much like he was cheating that he didn’t even think, maybe there’s a rational explanation for all the crazy behavior, it’s, he cheated or purposely made himself look that way. He literally did all of the behaviors of a person who marks cards. All the hate is justified.
@@JRibsif you would indeed cheat, would you behave so everybody thinks you cheated? BS.
Doug you’re awesome... just starting to watch but great that you have given Martin the opportunity to defend himself.
Extremely well-handled conversation from both sides. My only wish was to dig into maxing out time on every decision (e.g., taking 30s to fold 92o UTG).
Surprised to see so many people defend this guy when he knows damn well what he was doing could make people think he was cheating... Maybe it's because they are just as annoying as he is in life and they can relate???
If you think I know your cards and that keeps you from bluffing, you have no shot to win unless you cooler me. Who's fault is that?
@@michaelangst6078 it's "defending" someone to say that they handled a conversation well?
@@michaelangst6078ow do you know that? Have you ever been at a huge FT before live? Do you have any idea how mentally draining it is, how much pressure there is especially on stream, anxiety, etc? I have. I do. Not a 250K, but a streamed FT with hundreds of thousands up top. It feels different than making an even bigger online FT.
It seems like the commenters are 99.9% 1/2 players or lower. Dude clearly has OCD or SOMETHING like that, some disorder. That’s clear. I’m not defending his stalling, I hate that. I’m not defending the standing up and staring. How about someone calls the MF floor? Once they did he didn’t stand anymore.
Like you truly think he is exploiting this thought ppl have that he’s cheating and can see marked cards, but isn’t actually cheating? You know the level it’d take to even think of that absurdity let alone do it on a $250K FT live stream under lights with a crowd? GTFO. I can’t stand the passive aggressive culture where people all talk amongst themselves in their “inner circle” and don’t say a thing to him until they bust like Dan Smith. Or until they bust and get on social media.
CALL. THE. FLOOR. You’re a seasoned live pro. This dude is just so many levels ahead of you that you can’t take it, and can’t play your game? Cover your cards up in the moment. Constantly ask for new decks. Alert the floor constantly if he keeps doing anything sketchy. The standing thing is against the rules. Once someone called floor he didn’t do it anymore. How simple is that?
This is legit ridiculous. If you have suspicions tell the casino staff. Poker is becoming a soap opera. This dude barely even plays it’s not like he’s a reg playing every high roller. If you’re that afraid then skip the event. If he’s cheating he will get banned. Vegas makes sure of that especially when you’re wiring 6 figures to the cage. They’re not just glossing over cheating allegations with 500000 video clips.
I love this interview. I am not a fan of Martin, but I am glad everyone gets a fair chance to give their side of the story. The language barrier aside, it's a very fair interview and Doug did a good job of asking questions proper, and then letting Martin answer, without interrupting. Not got ya reporting.
And given I have Asperger's, I can understand ticks and being odd at a table. I have never considered playing this high of stakes and have no clue how I would react to the pressure of such enormous sums of money are on the line with each decision, but I appreciate that Martin realizes he has his own ticks, can be annoying, and isn't always orthodox.
That said, I don't know if he truly cheated, and if after scrutinizing the cards, the venue finds no signs of fowl play, I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt. Of course every action in a casino is recorded, and if evidence ever comes that any cheat, casinos have a duty of care to their patrons, and it would be addressed I'm sure.
Be well all, and may your upswings always cover your downswings.
Well said
I think he is just a little odd, maybe on the spectrum and doesn't speak english that great which might make him annoying but not a cheater. Im glad we have a guy like this in poker because I miss all the characters from 15 to 20 years ago that had personalities and made poker fun to watch. Now its just a bunch of boring af younger guys with no personality, charisma or character about them. Just sit there like a lump running solvers and GTO through their heads.
you like to watch him, but playing at the same table is unbearable
The autism defense is horseshit. We know what autism in poker looks like, and it’s jungleman. It’s not this. This guys just a loud rude obnoxious asshole, like peak Tony G. Maybe he does it on purpose to tilt players, maybe not. But there’s no autism here.
@@MrKavalCityhave you played at the same table as him? Or is that just a received opinion? Valid question.
@@narele25 no watch him in tv

There's no way to stop pressing of the cards unless they go full electronic. You can press them everytime you check your hand. The standing up could be stopped?
Actually, Martin defended himself well. This interview was very much needed. When you think about it, overall, poker is a game of personaties🤔
Thank you Doug👍
1:03:00 wholesome Martin moment ❤
Former law enforcement with a fair amout of training in observing people during interviews/interrogstiins, and there isnt one single indicator of deception in his answers. Generally, when someone is being deceptive, there are several indicators. He was very excited to answer all of the questions and didnt ever hesitate to think of his answer. He over answered everything without pause. What is clear is that Martin has some ticks, and likely explains his antics in live poker. Ive watched all the clips and there really wasnt much there except in a folded hand, and that one didnt look like he was actually trying to mark a card when he curled his fingers. That one seemed very much like a tick. Much respect for Martin, he faced his accusations head on, and doesnt seem to want anything other than to clear his name. Robl amd Smith need to appologize. There never was a shred of evidence, only alot of circumstantial bs that is easily explained away with some ticks. One thing thats clear is that he has a very high motor, and very well may be slightly on the Autism spectrum, but ever so slight, which may not even be enough to diagnose. I dont think any psycho analyst would diagnose him with the very few signs of it, but the high motor and low on spectrum explains the ticks and overtalk.
Robl and Smith need to be checked for their prejudice. They're giving him all this shit because of his neurodivergency, hating the traits and actions of a neurodivergent person simply because they don't understand it.
Neurodivergent brains are wired differently, to the extent it shows on brain scans. Also, interestingly enough if he did show awkwardness it wouldn't indicate lying, you can't go by normal indicators like that because neurodivergent people mask, all interaction with neurodivergent people is accompanied by acting because social cues are not registered, its all guesswork and inserting things based on pattern recognition, not following the expected cues. Even if he acted awkward about it, or seemed 'off', wouldn't mean he is guilty.
Another thing to consider is that neurodivergents suffer visual distortions, can be harder to judge distance, angles, etc.. in some cases it could be harder for them to look at and count others stacks visually.
Dan Smith and Robl are coming across as ignorant ablests, can't be too mad at someone over their lack of education, but being a poker player dealing with incomplete information as a job, should be accompanied by some better critical thinking.
Oh BTW the spectrum doesn't work how you think it does, there isn't a 'less or more'.. different people have different challenges to different degrees but it isn't a linear line of less > more like you're assuming it is. Just thought I should point that out.
Plus you're not seeing the extent of someone's neurodivergency, you're seeing their masking, the acting like a 'regular human'.
Autistic here (if you haven't guessed already).
Good grief...97% of the live chat was full of immature, irrelevant, or illogical nonsense...but I couldn't stop reading it lol
Great interview, Doug. Very professional on both sides of the conversation.
Great interview. WSOp have confirmed cards are not marked. Innocent.
Watched the whole thing. I know it’s hard to listen to him for such a long period such is 1 hour and it would be even harder in Czech language, trust me 😂
I know Martin for many, many years. I worked a lot of tournaments and cash games as a floor. It’s “hard” to handle him, ‘cause he is not really breaking any rules. Only thing floor can do is to cut the “time” call to whatever 15,10 seconds, since he’s really taking a long time sometimes. But it’s everyone’s right to call the time on him and it’s floors decision if the clock called on him is/is not reasonable..
That he is “rude” to people is also not really right, he has his sense of humor which someone like and someone don’t. I also played couple low buyin tournaments with him and I enjoyed the jokes and he also drove me mad with taking so much time each hand. As mentioned above, we solved it with calling clock and telling him and he “cut the time” for the decisions in upcoming hands.
About the cheating stuff.. Never.. As a floor (and I worked tournaments from 200€ up to 100k€ where he played) I can only say, that marked cards would be found after the tournament, we would check the cameras and he’d be caught.
I don’t believe that he marked cards. But I don’t believe any of u all are doing your due diligence and “checking the cards and cameras “ afterwards. I played 4 tourneys at the Wsop so far this year and I found marked cards in 3-4 tourneys.
@@Youpeeipay Well, it depends on the place/poker club/casino. I worked in smaller casinos and even it those, decks are checked for marks or damage on them and damaged cards replaced with good ones (not saying new ones every time. Some clubs/casinos are replacing cards to save obv and use those for tournaments). But on bigger buyin tournaments or CG, they always start the game with brand new deck. And especially the bigger the buyin is, the more the decked is checked and if anything suspicious is found, the surveillance guys would watch the cameras and definitely found where/who the problem is..
However, I only worked the events in Europe (EPT, WPT, WSOP etc.) and never in Vegas, so I can’t really say what the procedure in Vegas is..
What I’m saying is, if Martin would be cheating throughout his ~15yrs career, he would be 100% caught by now in Europe’s events.
@bobbyknuckles5913 how long have you been playing? How can you tell they are marked? Would a player who has made it their job for 15 years know how to? The way he denied knowing anything about marking cards makes me suspicious.
I watched the the final two tables live and didn't even THINK that Martin was cheating. Some of his betting proves that he didn't know what the other players cards were ~ ridiculous! Martin has too many other revenue streams in his life to 'cheat' at a live poker tournament with cameras and viewers EVERYWHERE!!
For you to say this you are obviously him. Lmao cheater
@@FOPAudits Would you rather be a degen pro poker player or a guy that has other business interests that make him millions and play recreational poker?

Respect for bringing him on, Crazy how the internet works, watching your other vids on him I would have thought 100% cheated, seeing and using my judgement of character I think he sincerely did not cheat and it's sad how easily some ones reputation can be wrecked by a couple videos and accusations.
Thank you for providing an objective space for Martin to tell his side, Doug. While at times, Martin's behavior is over-the-top aggressive, I believe him when he says that he's not a cheater. A guilty person wouldn't have had the guts to show up and directly answer the tough questions you asked.
I think it would be incredibly fun to play at a table with this guy!
I play for a living... I can tell you for certain, it would be amusing for about 10 minutes, then it would be insufferable. I've cashed out early more than once because it just wasn't worth the headache... And I don't think I've ever played with anyone as annoying as he is.
I disagree but do think he’s innocent.
I grew to genuinely like the guy by the end of the interview. Makes his antics at the table far more entertaining now I know what he’s like as a person.
Try sitting 2 tables away from him at the WSOP.. he pisses so many people off, so loud and obnoxious.
Reminds me of my son who has turrets but not as active. This interview is great. Reminds me of joe rogan type podcast. Nicely done!
The ending was phenomenal
