Thanks for the stellar clarification from a scientific POV. * just heard a recommendation for zeolite as a detox tool for heavy metals , in the human body. It was quite a puzzle for some who rely on religion more than science. ( old school carbon as a detox aid has worked for me) Not sure if liquid or powder is better for the metals to bind to .... I'll keep researching. Thanks for t hff e very informative video! *& just ignore the "small minded trolls/haters" who don't have a clue about how valuable data IS.... I went to TX A&M @ Galveston in the geological lab with graduate students; was a great experience...until Hurricane IKE in 08' messed up a lot of normalcies for many months. This was the perfect video for me today. I have 5 specimems I bought a while all just labeled "zeolite". I printed a few pages at work listing and explaining zeolites. I have a couple stilbite and am getting a heulandite specimen soon. I have been trying to identify which mineral my "zeolites" are and this video helped explain more of what they are and how they are formed. I also subscribed and liked the video. Thank you
Glad it was helpful, zeolites are difficult to ID because there are so many of them and they intergrow with each other. Stilbite and heulandite are very common, laumonite and analcime are pretty common too.

Thank you! I found a bunch of zeolites and agate embedded in basalt on the beach in Tillamook county, Oregon here in the US. I see lots of stuff on commercial uses for zeolites but not much about what they look like in nature.
That's really cool, I am guessing it's pretty young geologically! Basalts like that are a great source for zeolites and agates!

Cool, who knew that TJ Max would be a place to buy crystals!? Indian zeolites often come from the Deccan Traps, you should have a look into that, they are pretty cool!
Of course it's a basalt formed one! I watched a video before this about its exothermic reaction with water, and from that I knew it had to be a dry area, but volcanic formation just didn't occur to me.
With that formation process, the fact that it has a lot of alumina (that is ever present on the moon) and its exothermic reaction with water, it could be of some interesting use to lunar lava tube/dead volcano colonies. (If it forms there, but we're short on both lunar geologists and lunar samples (for now (insert mad scientist chuckle)).
(By the way my main interest is space exploration (well, more colonization) and I was doing research on power systems and I found one with a zeolite powered Stirling engine, so yeah. I love the internet, one video you're learning about heat pipes, the two videos later you're learning about the formation of some mineral you only found out existed a couple of minutes ago. :)
I got to see some thin sections of lunar rock collected by the Apollo missions. It was absolutely pristine basalt and anorthosite, not a single trace of free oxygen or water in any of the minerals or textures.
I like the internet for that same reason, but also dislike it because before I know it, 2 hours have passed and I've done no research but I can randomly show you how to make perfect chinese style fried eggs. XD

I live in the american southwest. Not a basalt in sight, but we have rhyolite for days. Is there an analogue for zeolites in more silica rich rhyolite?
This was very interesting! I found your video because zeolites is used in a potting mix for plants. Right now I use pumice since it keeps my plants roots both moist and well aired. Would zeolites have any beneficial properties for plant roots? Does zeolites have pockets of air in them? Can zeolites keep moisture?
Glad you liked it! Plants are a mystery to me, so I have asked my partner who is a plant scientist. Regarding pumice and zeolites; there may already be lots of zeolites in your pumice if it has the right chemistry. Pumice is just lava that cooled so quickly few crystals could form, so it's made of natural glass. Natural glass is unstable and will quickly convert to minerals, much faster than crystalline volcanic rock, and that includes minerals like zeolites. Pumice also has those gas pockets called vesicles which provide neat little microenvironments for zeolites to form. Finally, when the natural glass in pumice converts to minerals, it releases trace elements into the environment, and that can include lots of phosphorous. Some zeolites already hold water in the chemical structure as OH (hydroxyl 1 oxygen and 1 hydrogen). But zeolite crystals can also have an open crystal frame work on the micro scale which will hold extra water.

I bought a crystal cluster that was labeled as zeolite. The large quartz-like crystals are clear to translucent with a phantom mirrored interior. The outer area of the crystal points turn to a small druzy type that are a more grey and super sparkly section. Pink needle-like crystals on the back of the matrix of I assume is basalt. I have given myself a headache trying to make sure I fill out the mineral ID tag correctly. Am I looking in the right direction of crystals to figure it out?
Zeolites are tough because there are thousands of different types, the pink needles are sound like they could be zeolites, things that look like quartz usually turn out to be quartz though. You can try scratching the quatz with a steel point, quartz is harder than steel but zeolites are softer and will scratch.

They say it's good for soil,i bought today 1 ton of zeolite to try it out on 1 hectare,if its shows some positive effects on crop yield,il order more.I am farmer,i payed that 1 ton some 360 euro.

@@geologyjohnson7700 I don't know much about it, apparently it works as sponge for water and soil nutrients.... Well i hope it is not only because calcium,i could use cheaper gypsum instead for that purpose.Yet i did used it on slightly acidic soil ,ph +-5.5 ,honestly idk what to expect,now when i think about it i should make test side by side,since that field is large where i added zeolite ,i could use gypsum near zeolite ,and then check the results on crop trough out the season.

I m a chemistry student and I want to make zeolite in my final year project ? Is it sounds great or not?
I have no idea, I've never tried growing low temperature hydrothermal minerals like zeolites, I've only grown ambient temperature minerals. Sounds like an interesting project idea though. What do you want to investigate?

I had a bad case of zeolites, but after a bunch of vitamins and rest....they were gone.
