You were not around when the Raiders signed Jim Plunkett out of the niners, but it ended up well with 2 rings, or when Raiders signed Rich Gannon out from the chiefs and brought us to the last SB. So, I don't see the wrong here, considering the Raiders can't go worse than what happened last year.

I was around and know the history. It's a different scenario with Plunkett. He signed with the Raiders in 1978, when Stabler was still around. When Snake was traded to the Oilers, Dan Pastroni was given the starting role until he broke his leg, when Plunkett took over. Plunkett took such a beating in his years as a Patriots, Al, Madden and Flores sat him. Jimmy is most likely the incumbent starter from day one, unless the same scenario happens like it did 9 years ago with Matt Schaub and Derek Carr.

I agree he is not better than Carr, but at least he is cheaper, so, considering that you can build a better overall team, specially in terms of defense, and also allowing you to use him as a bridge to get the QB of the future, with a cheaper contract against the salary cap, sounds great to me.

Plunkett and Gannon: both WRs for both QBs are in the hall of fame. HOF running back, multiple offensive linemen, multiple DBs, Def Linemen, linebackers, special teams. So many hall of famers and top 5 defenses. That’s not even close in todays Raiders.
