A review of the Visconti Voyager 2020 / figbootonpens Figboot on Pens P.O. Box 12430 Durham, NC 27709 figbootonpens@gmail.com Instagram - @figboot11 Measurements music by Dan Pacaldi: www.danpancaldi...
The Black Star is magnificent with the silver tones showing through as it’s rotated. Something I’ve never mentioned before. Your color card display showing the ink used next to two other similar inks is extremely helpful! Personally I’m a little obsessed with turquoise and love Lamy’s turquoise. I even write my checks using a ballpoint refilled with a Fisher’s turquoise. Thanks for your hard work in bringing us these reviews full of great information.
I just got my first Visconti - a Rembrandt. I am so far enjoying it very much. I hope to be able to get into some of the higher end pens - just need to save many pennies. Thanks for the great review.
I recently got a Homo Sapiens after saving up a little and I can happily say that I do not regret it one bit. It’s a fantastic pen and I’m sure you’ll have a great time when you get into those higher end models
I think this is an awesome looking pen and I would be very interested in possibly getting one. But I think it should be noted it looks extremely similar to the Pineider Arco Oak.
Yes. I love that Alpha Centauri. Already splurged a lot on pens lately though so should behave my self for now at least. Thank you for an excellent review David. I have learnt a lot from your videos. I think the most important lesson is that pens and nibs are in the eye and hand of the beholder, to rephrase it loosely :)
Nice review as always. Thank You. The pens, well I confess I have never found much to like about any Visconti pen that I have seen. The matching non-metal section is a step in the right direction for me.
The alpha centari is beautiful! I like some of the Visconti pens, but this is the first I've actually coveted. My old dog's registered name is Intrepid Voyager, and it's about same the color as his coat, so besides it's intrinsic beauty, it would have his memory attached. Thinking hard about this one.
I had one of these briefly, but returned it because the ring at the end of the section, which engages magnetically with the cap, kept coming off and being left behind inside the cap. I still don’t think that Visconti have fully shaken off their QC issues, despite improvements in recent years.
Looks great, but I wish Visconti would make more pens with the large 18k nibs, hook safe, and power filler. Feels almost like it's getting neglected with the new HS color and the stones pens ignoring a few of those 3 combinations.
Excellent review as always!,very professional. Thank you!. These pens look beautiful but the Homo Sapiens is still my grail pen, just hope to get mine soon!
Unusual opinion but I feel like the 2020 voyager doesn't quite look and "feel" as refined (?) As I'd expect from Visconti and also considering how much I'm spending but the fit and finish doesn't seem quite as on par as I found on other Viscontis I've seen and tried
Several years back, the brand was having a rash of quality issues, but my feeling is that those issues have mainly been addressed and things have been significantly better for the last 4 years or so.
@@FigbootonPens I don't have overall stats of course but in my personal experience they haven't improved QC any since I started buying their pens in 2012. I have this same Voyager 2020 but in EF and the barrel was badly warped and shaped like a canoe, so had to send it back for a replacement, should never have left the factory like that. This took several weeks. Once I got the replacement back from Nibs.com it was writing nicely (though these in house 14K nibs are drier than the 18K gold ones) but a few days later I dropped it a few feet to the floor while in a secure sturdy leather pen case with 3 other pens. The pen would no longer write, but the other 3 pens still write just fine. Now I had to send it back to the dealer to get tuned again (with insurance was $30 for ground shipping just one way) so this will be an expensive fix. I am worried the pen is this fragile, the case drop was less than I see the mailman doing when they throw the boxes around so hope it doesn't get damaged on the return Voyage (with all these trips to the repair shop maybe this is why the called the pen Voyager?). Additionally my Visconti Crystal Dream HS from December writes beautifully (should as was tuned first by Dan Smith) but every time you uncap it there is ink residue at the end of the section (just like my HS Mazzi from 2012 which wasn't tuned first) so always get ink on my middle finger (a symbolic f-you to the consumer). My Van Gogh's (one from 2012 and one from 2020) both have baby's bottom. Strangely my cheapest Visconti, the Mirage in EF with a steel nib, writes beautifully and have had no problems with it (was tuned first by Appelboom though). I wouldn't even consider buying a Visconti without having it tuned first, and then could still be issues. So no I don't think they have their QC under control at all yet, even though they want that to be their new reputation. fwiw I have about 25 pens from various Japanese pen makers as well as Pelikan and Waterman, and only had issues with one of those even though most were not tuned by a nib meister. Also had severe nib issues with my 2 Montegrappa's, but my 2 Pineider pens work flawlessly.
I would only buy a Visconti from a retailer which has the capacity to check and tune the nib before sending, and I would request to do so during the the order, as they can be all over the place.
A beautiful set of pens but I don't think I'd want anything that reminds me of the (pandemic and otherwise) "voyage" of 2020! Now, if they named it "New Hope" 2021 I would be more excited :-)
When you listed the names of the different pens I wondered if Neil deGrasse Tyson would order all three.

Thanks for watching!
A Visconti I like the look of! Beautiful deep colours, almost understated (rare in Italian pens).
That intro transition is very creative, love it. This pen reminds me of a medieval bronze sword. Magnetic cap is so cool!

I love Visconti's packaging really...Unique and stunning

The Orion Nebula finish is stunning!
I like your reviews. Thanks for this one too
Thanks for watching!
Great review David. I do not have a Visconti yet, but the Homo Sapiens Bronze is on my list. Keep up the great work.

Always love Visconti pens, they just have so much class
great review.

I'd like to see that Alpha Centauri next to my Pineider Arco as the material looks very similar.
Do magnetic caps tend to loosen (lose their magnetism slightly) over time, does anyone know?
Excellent review as always!,very professional. Thank you!. These pens look beautiful but the Homo Sapiens is still my grail pen, just hope to get mine soon!
Would be interested to see a comparison with the original released in the 1990's!
That Alpha Centauri reminds me of a pool cue handle.
Great review! I do enjoy the Homo Sapiens series except for the pencil never felt as smooth as the rest in the set.

Hi David, Does this pen seem overpriced to you, especially for a cartridge converter model? Thank you.
I feel it fits in fine with the pricing of Visconti's pens as a whole.
Hi I’m a huge fan I love you channel
What about quality of yours visconti? I hear many differents things from the brand😅
Several years back, the brand was having a rash of quality issues, but my feeling is that those issues have mainly been addressed and things have been significantly better for the last 4 years or so.
@@FigbootonPens so happy hear this, i really love the design of the Van Gogh pens 🥰
