  • Like, Share & Subscribe! Oh boy! The Bafang BBS02 mid-drive motor needs to be re-greased after all the riding that we have been doing. The sound from the motor was starting to sound odd which told me some maintenance was needed. This is the first time that I will do this, so join me and let's figure it out! Is this a job for a bike mechanic or can I handle this myself? Thanks for watching and enjoy!

      One of these days, we’re going to get you on a mid drive bike. Thank you for watching.

    internet says good job Blaine. Camera Michele. I was surprised the amount of dirt that he attracted to that area of your mid-drive. You ride on lots of dirt roads and as you said you were 1K miles overdue. The spacer is a life saver vs individual screws for sure. great money spent. Never look back at that 4 bucks and say...well I did not need that. One greasing and you say...Thank goodness.

      Yes, I’m not real big on patience. I had to order the spacer from California E-bikes. I knew it would take a week to get here so I can grab some brass washers to use them. The problem was the screw set were too close to a hub and one corner had to be ground down on each one of them. What a pain in the butt to get that notch lined up and get everything set. I’m sure glad we’re not. Spacer showed up. Lol. Thanks for watching.

    how many miles adnd what kind of hill climbing load carrying do you have on this unit? after a year are there more problems? i have a bbs02 that has 1000 miles, pretty tough hill climbing and load in colorado. just started making bad noises going up hill. trying to figure out what I am up against.

    • @southernebiking
      @southernebiking  Před 13 hodinami

      @rshawiii I have Approximately four thousand miles on mine and have not had any problems. The noise you are hearing. It means that you need to take the side cover off and pack new greece inside the gear. I do have a video about how I did that. And it is very easy to do. If you have that many miles on, you probably should consider it changing your entire drivetrain. Chain ring cassette and chain. That is the only issue that I had with this bike. And that is only because I was putting so many miles on. I am Riding a hub drive on the majority of our rides. Now and I have put the trek bike to strictly off road. The only reason for that was because you do have some maintenance to do with a mid drive, but that would be any mid drive. And if you were in colorado and riding hills daily, you probably need the mid drive. I would say there are some better mid. Drive units that you could get. The dollar for dollar. The buffang is probably the best deal for ninety nine percent of people. Take a look at that video on repacking. And you'll see, it's very easy and that will quiet your motor right down. Thanks for watching

    What do you think about blue thread lock for the bolts ?

    • @southernebiking
      @southernebiking  Před 6 měsíci +1

      If you were talking about the bottom bracket, yes, definitely thread lock. I also use a torque arm. If you are talking about the cover where I pack the grease. I do not believe these need anything. They were actually not tight at all, but I have checked them since and they have never loosened. The cover itself is plastic so I am sure it is pushing against the screws to keep them from loosening. Right now we are at about 3000 miles on the this and I have not had any problem with it. Thanks for watching Walter.

    Pointless doing this & not the nylon gear at the same time

  • @annespacedroid
    @annespacedroid Před 4 měsíci +2

    That's too much. Excess grease will create friction, friction creates heat, heat causes expansion, expansion can blow out your seals. Not to mention less power & shorter battery life overall.

    • @southernebiking
      @southernebiking  Před 4 měsíci

      Thanks for watching. This is not a sealed system. The cover is plastic with space around it. Any excess grease will exit. So it is really not very likely to be able to over grease as the seal is actually just the grease.

    I use a brush when greasing my mid drive motor with a small amount, yours look way too much.

    • @southernebiking
      @southernebiking  Před měsícem

      The newer ones are sealed. The one I am using is not a sealed system. So any excess quickly finds its way to the outside. B t w not much come out. Thanks much for watching.

      It is absolutely not overpacked. And you may want to watch again as that is not what I said
