The Mazda3 saw the Hiroshima company bringing a class-competitive family hatch to market for the first time in a number of years. The old 323, while interesting, was never really a challenger for the likes of the Ford Focus or Vauxhall Astra but with the 3, Mazda were right on the pace. The comparison to the Focus is apposite, for under the skin of the Mazda3 is the same basic chassis as the Ford, spelling handling excellence and offering the benefits of one of thee world's most rigorous development cycles. Used examples are now starting to filter onto the used market and given that the Mazda3 has been rather under-promoted, these cars represent very good value indeed.

Ive had a 08 as a daily commuter work car for 3 years now got it at 240 000km, has 320 000 now. Engine runs amazing cars amazing you gotta watch those brake flex lines though. If you buy one with higher mileage n they look old replace em, they're known to be a issue n you don't want your caliper locking up when your doing 80 km/h lol it ain't fun

"Mazda's first serious stab at bringing us a class leading family hatchback." Really? Perhaps you need to go back to the 323/GLC of '77 or the FWD version of '80, the latter of which I think you still got in the UK which won several awards around the world.

So easy to work on, just pulled the engine and trans out of mine and it took a few hours. Love this car. Literally just pull out intake and battery box, disconnect cvs, and pull straight up.

Check your brake flex lines front to back 👍 you will save your self alot of problems if you sort those out

If they haven't failed on yours yet, I can pretty much promise you they will lol. I've owned 3 of these, I own 2 as we speak. A 2011 Mazdaspeed 3 hatch, n a 2008 gs automatic. Flex lines n calipers have been a issue on both of em

    • @Kasper-wg2ds

Calipers become a issue cause of the flex lines Mazda really cheaped out on the quality for those flex lines, what happens is they semi collapse n cause your caliper to half stick everywhere you drive from the heat of that next thing you know the entire caliper seizes ends up fucked lol. It's happened on all 3 I've owned, flex lines, sway bar links, n the spark plug tube gaskets on the valve cover are very smart preventive maintenance things to do when buying one of these

Just bought a 1st gen with 192k miles. After a suspension refresh I feel this car could go another 100k. Great value for a used car with sporty handling and decent power for a tiny 2 liter 4 banger.
