As the first female veteran deployed with the Nebraska, Army National Guard, I can’t tell you how much this song means to me. I honestly thought there is nobody left to believe in the United States. I will say this is out of my realm of comfort because I am a country girl. When I heard it, I couldn’t stop listening to it. Here's the thing... When you're born in a country, you may or may not love it. It's happenstance. But when you were born somewhere else and then become a citizen, you usually do it because you want to.
I'll be honest... I didn't want to for almost 20 years. I came here because I married an American soldier, but I felt foreign for many, many years. When we got divorced after 22 years, I realized that even though I could have gone back "home" at that point, I no longer wanted to, because in those 20 years the US had become HOME. And I was finally ready to pledge allegiance and mean it, so I became a citizen. I used to say I was Italian... Now I say I was born and raised in Italy. There is a difference.
I imagine the same goes for Tom -- He was Canadian, but now he's an American who was born in Canada. It's not just semantics... It means something deeper, maybe not to the citizens "of convenience", but to all those who truly pledged allegiance because they felt it was the right thing to do. We CHOSE to and we meant it.

It’s not always the easiest job I have to drive at night and at least twice a week I have to fight sleep even though I get plenty of sleep it’s just not easy driving those hours watching those white lines.😮
