It’s impossible for me to pick a favorite bloom! Some are favorites because the wildlife like them, some because they are sentimental and some because they are beautiful. Seeing your yard evolve always keeps me motivated to continue work in my own garden. Thank you for that!
I’ve never seen such a near perfect looking garden with so many specimens of plants and flowers. Just beautiful!!
And everything looks robustly healthy, which amplifies the effect! Learning a lot here as we start to develop our zone 8b garden near Athens, GA!
Salvia is my favorite! I can’t resist buying one any time I find a new one.
Salvia are my favorites too! Coleus and Plectranthus are my favorite foliage plants!
I have lots of plants I love but I will say I love when the hydrangeas begin blooming. There is something so charming about them. Very quaint and homey.
My favorite summer flowering plant is tall garden phlox. They bloom a very long time, and the butterflies and fees seem to adore them.
Wow this bee balm is so tall mine seems to be short and nubby.
At the moment, my favorite blooms are coming from clematis. Henryi with its gorgeous huge white blooms and Rooguchi with nodding dark purple-blue flowers. I agree with you Jim, white flowers are so beautiful!!
For me, all together, color, size, and xetger, in the garden makes the garden unique and beautiful. Like your garden is exciting every time I see it. Thank you so much Jim putnam for charging.
I feel the same way about Jim's garden. I also feel the same way about your garden, Ram. I cannot wait for Jim's next video featuring your garden. I think he said it addresses the history and that your husband is in it, as well.
Jim you are such a likeable person. I love your excitement about the Dahlia's. I feel the exact same way.
Jim, I agree white is undervalued in the landscape. I love the brightness my white Echinacea and Shasta Daisies bring to the garden. I’m most excited for my Hydrangeas this Summer because it’s my first full season. The Ruby Slippers is already turning pink 🥰
I have a hydrangea that came from my mom's hydrangea that she planted the year I was born. I am always happy to see it bloom!
The new salvias like Black and Blue or Blue Suede Shoes is a robust and prolific bloomer. Hats off to the hybridizes. They make my garden sing.
Si beautiful!! Dahlias are my favorites!! I have several tubers that I haven’t planted yet and they are starting to sprout out leaves!! I over preferred because I loved so many of them!! Mine have come back every year here in Alabama. Some come up later than others but they all have come up the last 3 years!
I wish you could tell my husband to get rid of our lawn or green weeds and put in more beds!! I have a huge yard and grass is difficult and he doesn’t really realize that a lawn is more maintenance than flower beds after the beds are established and offer year round beauty!! He mows twice a week most weeks in summer and there my perennials and bushes just stand there looking great and even the deciduous ones even offer winter interest!!
Jim, what you have done with your space is nothing short of amazing! I love your garden tours! I almost feel guilty getting a free tour. 😉 I love that you spend time at each section giving detailed explanations. Everything looks so healthy and happy! Thank you for what you do!
Please do not forget to stop and mention the conifers......some of us here in the Pacific Northwest are conifer lovers....that little blue cedar in front is lovely and deserves a mention. I look forward to my tree peonies to bloom along with the hardy lady slippers.
Wow that's a hard one Jim! I guess I would have to go with Poppies. My grandmother had a bed of them she kept because she had a brother that died in WW1 and I have seeds from hers I've planted at every home I've had. Man that leaves out Miss Sawyer's iris but I'm sure you won't tell her since she was my second grade teacher and I'm 63. I keep telling people about your channel. Great as always.
Holly and I share the same opinion of hot weather. I admire her elegant recumbent posture. When I go outside I look like a hot mess. Holly belongs with the lovely dahlias.
Your landscape gardens are SO beautiful and lush! It looks like layers of color, texture, and interest at every level. I wonder if you have a parade of neighbors walking by everyday just to enjoy your garden? It's hard to pick just one flower that I look forward to most, my garden area is small, so I don't have the amazing variety that some like yours do. But, I must say I look forward to all the different forms of Coreopsis that come back so nicely. They look like little Sunflowers and I love watching the bees weigh them down while harvesting pollen. Also, I actually have a wild Swamp Magnolia in my back yard and I love the smaller flowers that smell so strongly you can smell them across the yard and the pollinators love it. I wonder if native Swamp Magnolia is becoming more and more rare? My neighbors across the canal cut theirs down to build a swimming pool, I used to love seeing it bloom from my yard. Thank you for the tour!
Dahlias, zinnias and straw flowers are a must for me.
The dogwood is seriously popping off. Also I'm glad you mentioned the swiss chard. I saw a passing glance of them last week and thought "what on earth are those monsters?!" haha.
Coneflower is what I am looking forward to. Your Dalias are beautiful !
Nothing says summer to me like the Mallow family. Hibiscus, Rose mallows, Rose of Sharon, and Hollyhocks.
OMG Jim. That's like asking a parent to pick a favorite child!
My favorite flowers are white, alyssum, gardenias and magnolias. Your garden is beautiful. It was amazing to see the transition you showed in an earlier video. We started in a new build in May of 2020, it's so exciting to see how it's changed!
I want that dogwood so very badly lol!!!! So beautiful!!! 💚💚💚🤍🤍🤍🌺🌸💚🤍🪴🌿🌳🍀🎄
I look forward to my Oriental,Orienpet and Asiatic Lilies the most because not only are they stunningly beautiful, but they require constant vigilance because the critters think they’re mighty tasty!
Hi Jim & viewers, John D. here in Oak Ridge, NC zone 7b. I found Empress of China dogwoods yesterday at Home Depot in Burlington, NC yesterday for $27.oo in 3 gallon pots. Beautiful specimen. Also going to Home Depot on Battleground Ave. in Greensboro they claim to have them in stock as well. I am considering picking up 2 unlike Jim I have nearly 3 acres to landscape. I have what's termed a Chinese Kousa dogwood or Cornus Kousa (very large specimen) and it blooms early spring to mid summer and seems like it blooms all summer long. Just wanted you and the viewers know that the Empress of China dogwoods are out there at HD. Happy hunting!!
thanks I'll have to check next year. I'm in charlotte, NC. I wonder what nursery Home depot gets them from?
Your garden is come a long way in such a short time. Very impressive
So agree!! Love any white bloom!! Beautiful!!!
Depends on what time in summer... where I live in summer in the Pacific Northwest I most look forward to fuchsia, Dahlia, and all the massive mophead hydrangeas.
Jim I totally agree with you on white being underutilized in the garden, yet I'm one of those that goes to the garden center and chooses color. I can't get my hand to reach for the white flowers and I know it makes other things in the yard pop. Your yard looks beautiful, I'm in northern ID 5/6 and things are just waking up. Thanks for everything you do, I've sure learned a lot through you.
Completely agree about white flowers. I found myself continuously buying white colored blooms and didn't even realize but the green/white contrast is underrated.
I've long preferred a green/white garden with ocassional pops of lemon yellow, pink or blue. I also like bouquets of white flowers.
I can’t think of a favorite flower, it depends on the season, or maybe I should say time of year. I like dahlias but their a lot of work for me because I can’t leave them in the ground. Tulips and daffodils are beautiful, lilacs, dogwoods, peonies, Iris, poppies, oriental lilies, roses, they all are my favorites I guess. Thank you Jim.🌸💚🙃
Hardy Hibiscus is my favorite summer flower in the landscape.
That Swiss Chard is a real eye catcher! In my garden Butterfly Bush and Black Adder Agastache are my favorite. Your garden looks great!
Dahlias for me too, this is my 2nd season growing dahlias from seeds and 25 varieties that I bought last fall. I can’t wait for them to flower.
Jim, I’m not usually one to put annuals out…but after seeing that lovely swath of color in your front hard, I may need to start again!!
I love coneflowers and phlox.. I planted a mass of them along the side of our old house & enjoyed watching the pollinators. My favorite annual this year is gomphrena which I had never heard of until I watched your channel.. a pollinator magnet!
I just planted an Empress of China and hope it will look like yours in a few years. Dahlias, by far are my favorite summer flower. There are so many in my garden I can’t even count them all, and a wish list with just as many on it. One can Berber have enough dahlias. 😉
Great video with so many different plants. That Empress of China dogwood is stunning! I almost bought one several years ago, but did not because the deer pressure where I live is tremendous! The gold St. John’s wort and that Carolina midnight loropetalum look awesome together! Thanks for all the informative content.
As a new gardener in 9b ca, my first 3 years focus was perennials due to we have such a long flowering season. The world of shrubs is my recent focus to add depth. I'm planning to create a large 85' long crescent berm for privacy so this vid was an excellent primer. If you happen to have berm ideas, I'd love to explore. Thank you for the tips today!
Zinnias, Hyacinth Bean Vine, Gaura, Lantana and many more!
My favorite blooms are the different salvias and vining plants.
Favorite flower? That's like asking which one is my favorite child. 🤣 I will have to say my assortment of peonies - they bring me such joy and they have sentimental value as well. I learned about peonies from my dad who had stunning ones along his driveway. Just recently I've come to the realization of white flowers in the garden - they look elegant along with the different textures/colors of foliage. Your garden is stunning - really enjoying your passion and knowledge.
Your whole property is stunning, Jim!
Hi Jim, loved the video (always do!). Gotta say my favorites, sorry I have 2, Dahlias and Coneflowers! Keep up the beautiful work. Thank you for your wealth of knowledge.
Although not the best for pollinators or longevity, lilies have to be my favorite summer flower. Zinnias are a close second. The bees sleep on them all summer long
Coneflowers and Bee Balm all the way.
I planted dahlia tubers for my first time last year and I am obsessed! The worst part is that having a bunch of them leaves large spaces empty after they die back
Thanks Jim, everything is lovely!
Im a newbie in gardening, hooked by Jim and his videos. Probably like your bed, in a year I'll be blooming with knowledge and can pick my favorite summer flower. Does hibiscus bloom in the summer? If so, that would be it! :). Love your videos, Jim, keep them coming! :)
My Vitex started blooming in the last few days, and is looking great! It's already covered in bees. Our gladiolus are blooming like crazy as well. These would be my favorites, at least for the moment.
After you saying Empress dogwood was hard to find, I had given up hope. We’re on a golf getaway vacation and just stopped by a garden center for fun. They had one! Yes we just carried it through the lobby of our nice hotel and will keep it happy til we head back home!
That's awesome
The garden is beautiful! I'm adding more white to mine. I have white dahlias this year and they are so pretty. Thanks for another great video.
Hard to pic a favorite flower but guess coneflower and sunflowers says summer to me. Enjoy seeing your garden. I am about 2-3 weeks behind you zone 5 central indiana. Also love hydrangeas. Keep planting more and planted a weeping redbud lime your
My favorite flowering thing I look forward to are impatients. They add so much to shade areas and have so much volume. I love petunias and lilies as well.
Great tour. Really like hearing your rationale for the placement of plants in the context of what textures and colors surround them.
I love the white coneflowers !!! So fun to watch your garden grow.
What are your favorites?
Pink truffala gomphrena favorite summer flowering plant. Pineapple sage favorite fall
Dahlias for me too! Hydrangeas a close second! And, I agree about the color white. I am liking it more and more. It’s the color that glows as it gets dark so it’s nice to spread it out around the garden. Love that bee balm BTW! Might need it!!
My favorite summer flower is a dark purple crepe myrtle
The Empress of China dogwood is stunning, as is your entire landscape. I love watching how it all changes from week to week so thank you for posting these videos. The flower I most look forward to seeing in my own tiny garden is, like you, the dahlia. I grow from seed as well as the big named dahlias, but I just love to be surprised with what comes up from the seed dahlias. 👍
I concur with Sarah... wrote that down again as a Must Have!
a beautiful garden, thanks for showing
Jim, you may have had a comment on this, but when you list the type of plant in the lower right part of the screen, the Zones right underneath is partially obscured by the HT. I can make it out but I really have to squint. Just wanted to let you know. Thank you for the time that you put into these videos. I've learned more from your videos than just about any other presenter on CZcams.
My favorite would have to be sweet peas, especially the spencer series
I experienced Daliahs for the first time last summer...love at first sight!
Love watching the tours. I just did a walk about around mine. We’ve had a few days of heavy well needed rains. Not the thunderstorms but rain we’ll take. My flower garden is containers mostly. Have irises and tiger lilies, roses won’t be really good until next year. But still I enjoy your tours and planting videos. Thanks for sharing.
It’s definitely dahlias for me. I have a whole bed dedicated to dahlias from seed this year, as well as several tuber varieties in the flowerbeds. It’s always a race, here in 5b, but I choose early blooming varieties and cross my fingers!
I’m pretty basic, my faves are zinnias, marigolds, and sunflowers.
Plumbago is my fav of summer- it looks so cool and delicate in our beastly hot summers in N GA!🌞
Beautiful landscape! There’s no way I would be able to pick my favorite plant!!
I think I have to go with four o clocks they are so beautiful. Even though for me they are such a pain bc they get so huge they always want to fall and I have to stake them up. As they have become a perennial on the south wall but they are so huge and full of blooms and so beautiful
Zinnias, without a doubt!
The dogwood is so beautiful!
Mmmmm if I had to choose just one flower,, it has to be the hydrangeas!!!
So many different plants on your property! Love them all but especially (right now) the Empress of China Dogwood! I saw something similar blooming locally in zone 6. It is striking! Also wondering what the pretty little fern is about minute 9.00. I'm looking forward to my hardy hibiscus blooming if I can keep the Japanese beetles from causing damage. Love their big red and pink blooms.
Stunning variety. I truly enjoy your tours! So inspiring.
The empress dogwood is gorgeous!
Eden bravo super beautiful man! România
I LOVE white!!
Beautiful gardens! Love all the brightly colored foliage.
I live close! I would die to have a tour! I’m new to gardening outdoors and would love input on what to do in my yard as well!
My faves are Zinnias and dahlias
Too many to name so it's difficult to pick a favourite but I would say Hydrangeas, Roses, Hibiscus, etc! 😆Your gardens are evolving in quite a spectacular fashion! Quite envious of some of the shrubs you've got in your beds as they're not hardy enough for me here Southern Ontario, CA 😒
Beautiful 🌸💕🌸
Dahlias !!!
The hostas are my favorite right now. They are big and still so fresh looking.
But what is that purple shrub behind the lime hypericum??? Inquiring minds must know! 😂😂😂
Absolutely beautiful! Did you do all the planting? Looks like a team of people was needed to plant all of these lovely things - not to mention caring for them.
For me it's canna bulbs and chinese balloon flowers🙂
Smash that like button folks! 🇺🇦🇺🇸🤜
That is the most beautiful monarda I've EVER seen. How do you DO that? I love white too as do pollinators. In dim light white GLOWS...
Anchored in yes
Does Jim riff all these and talks so good
Beautiful garden and I did watch the before. You said in the before video that your front garden would be a native garden and I'm wondering if the plants/shrubs you have are all native? I'm trying to grow more native in my zone 7 ET. TN garden.
Azurri Blue Rose of Sharon Hibiscus is by far my most anticipated flowering shrub.
Do most Monarda get that tall? Just got some pink, lilac and purple bee balm babies in 4.5" pots. If they get that size, they'll be giving the hibiscus a run for its money!
Everything is looking lovely. I think I need to do more annuals from seed next year. Too late to try profusion zinnias now? I am noticing that I can’t find 6 pack or even 4 packs of annuals anymore. I’m forced to buy the bigger plants now.
Your garden looks amazing!! I live in Maple Ridge BC, zone 8 and very very wet! I bought some mahogany splendor hibiscus seeds on line and planted some in a container. One grew… but the leaves are green and a regular leaf shape, not “lobed”. It is about 3 inches tall so far. Could that be a MS hibiscus?? 😎
That bee balm is stunning. What variety is it?
I don’t want white. I want a color. Hilarious statement made by customers. Meanwhile I walk out to enjoy my big leaf hydrangea and it’s beautiful white flowers that I can see across the yard lol
Always love your tours! Sadly, my dogwood needs to come down after struggling the last few years. I had a blueberry question from Sunday. I watched your pH video, but don’t understand why the leaves look chlorotic still. I have acidic soil zone 7a (Long Island, NY) and according to my soil test am a little low on available potash, but otherwise nutrients seem good! Last summer and again this year foliage has some chlorosis on both low and high bush blueberry. Not sure how to help them out!
