Pretty good performance of this Akkerman classic. The intro is very long and has some beautiful variations.
After the show Jan told me he didn't knew where that came from "somewhere far away"
Sorry about the videologic absence of the bass player and drummer, my seat at the show had these both blocked.
Hurray for David de Marez Oyens - bass and Marijn van den Berg - drums.

Perhaps Akkerman didn't have his day, but he better stick to the original version. The intro was way too long and not that interesting musically, while the song itself is. Missed opportunity.

I always find it great how he combines different extraordinary chord voicings, although it has went smoother sometimes. I wouldn't say the rest of the song is more interesting musically, it contains soloing over a handful of chords.

Of course he is improvising. Maybe this is boring to some people. If you ask me I wish I would have such a deep understanding of music to be able to play like this. This is not boring at all - at least to me. Many years ago I saw him playing solo. He did nothing else than improvising the entire gig. That was mindblowing.
