- We head up the California Coast into Big Sur in our Jeep Wrangler to do some overlanding style car camping and go off road in the mud with our 4x4 rigs to find an epic camping spot with some fun climbs to take the Surron X on!

What an amazing experience! Truly spectacular camp spot! Drone footage was so on point! Great video as always! Can’t wait for the next one! 🙂👍🏽
Thanks, more to come!
What an amazing place and you captured it beautifully! Loved the adventure! Glad you got back safely… and had buddies to support you!
thanks! and yes, glad to make it back!
What an awesome spot you found! Very cool you had some decent weather even it is was cold!
we lucked out for sure, but wait til you see the squall we were stuck in the next day!!!
Nice! Thanks for sharing👍
Absolutely, thanks for watching!
Great capture of your experience. 🙌🏽
thanks! enjoying the videos of your trip to Utah too!
This is awesome! Planned on going out for my anniversary hopefully the wind isn’t too bad!
good luck, it can get pretty windy!
You guys got lucky having the whole area to yourself! Going to try Big Sur this year. Hopefully we get lucky like you did.
it was pretty cool to have a site all to ourselves...stay off the beaten path and you can be alone up there...
@@DocWrangler How windy did it get there out of curiosity? Did you go to this spot during Christmas? We took a impromptu trip to bishop then alabama hills during Christmas. At alabama hills at night wind got up to 28mph 😂pretty crazy. But my wife and I are used to the wind so we slept good. Couldn't say the same for my friend as he didn't sleep all night 🙃
@@awdgsx415 this was just before Christmas...winds were high, but not enough to disturb us...check out our video from Funnel Lake to see some windy shenanigans...we were also out NYE in the desert and hit a wind advisory with gusts in the 45-50 mph range....actually felt a little unsafe, but we weathered it ok!
@@DocWrangler I will 👍
what an amazing set of individuals you are! Enjoy it, don't expose it!!!!!
👍🏼👍🏼
What road did you guys take?? spot looks awesome!
What an amazing adventure Doc. Thanks for sharing. What road do you take heading north to the ridge? Can’t wait to go explore. Thanks!
Dm me on IG 👍🏼
Awesome video Doc,Great info on noco. Breathtaking views. Did you uses 4x4 to get to that spot ?
yes, you'll need good clearance as well
@@DocWrangler you think a stock crosstrek could make it? Ill take off my front bumper for a better approach angle if I have too xD
Hey man! Super sick! Are these coordinates to the spot or the trail? I think I’ve stopped by this spot before. I have my own secret spots in Big Sur haha! Might be decent if it’s possible to remove the coordinates before your video blows up in the community like coyote flats did when That Recon guy set coordinates for it. Now I don’t go there anymore because it’s so overrun.
Sounds like you are careful with your setup and follow tread lightly. I’m more worried about the next guy of course.
Hey friend, thanks for the thoughtful contribution to the conversation about showing folks coordinates on sites like this (after weighing it in my mind, one I wouldn't withhold)...after your comment (and having read a couple other folks), I've blurred the coordinates. While this spot isn't one that I felt needed protection, if there are a few people (like yourself) out there that seem reasonable and are asking me to take out the coordinates, I'll defer to your experience and assume there may be something I'm missing. Stay safe out there, and hope to see you on the trail!
@@DocWrangler do you think I can get the directions to this spot please? Me and my friends are planning to go up here in a few weeks but we're not sure which trails to take and this one seemed perfect!
@@DocWrangler do you mind sharing the coordinates? I’m planning to head down there this weekend.
Fantastic video! Question did you and your team air down? If so how much did you air down to?
We didn’t air down for any of this…often, but not here
Thx Doc
Hey sir awesome video. Which road is this? Dont need the coordinates but curious if this is before or after Plaskett and Pewit Ridge?
DM me on my instagram!
@@DocWrangler Just sent you a DM good sir!
This was amazing. When is the best time weather wise to go do this?
It’s pretty good year-round, the rain seems to come and go
Thank u!
Great shots and amazing scenery. But can’t really complain about the world knowing every last quiet Big Sur spot and then proceeding to share more quiet Big Sur spots lol
Definitely true, you won’t hear me complaining about people getting out in nature, hopefully, my comment was just an observation. I made these videos to inspire folks to get out there!
There is a gate that blocks the entrance to the end of the trail. How did you guys get past it?
not on this particular spot...DM me on instagram for more specifics tho...maybe you were below Plaskett?
@@DocWrangler I went last weekend and yea no gate. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it all the way since the last steep section is super dry and rutted out. I'll attempt it again in the winter. Great vid thx for the response!
@@brandonwl yes, that steep section is steeper than video can depict...and the fall down the cliff is particularly far! Stay safe out there!
Is there anywhere to park a car before hitting this road? I plan on hitching a ride with a buddy to go up the hill if possible?
no idea on that one, didn't really look around there for parking...have fun!
Great job on the vid and narration. Big Sur is a magical place and you found a great camp spot. We’re losing access (LPNF Monterey District) and solitude partly as a result of increased visitors and abuse. USFS is working hard to let Mother Nature reclaim its beauty. Please consider making part of your viewers adventure seeking the location using other means than the coordinates and cross roads to the area. Yes it’s public and it’s nice to share these wonderful places with your close friends but good luck ever returning to that spot without someone else there or it being trashed. That being said, your camera shots, editing, narration and capture of the overall adventure was great. Cheers
Thanks so much for the thoughtful contribution to the conversation I have with myself all the time...there are certain places (eg, ecological spots such as in the "Secret Oasis" video, BLM cabins, etc), that I keep the coordinates off of for good reason. When it comes to spots like this (require an actual rig and some driving experience to get to but not a side-by-side destination), I tend not to find much trash.. I agree, I kinda wish I got the best spot every time, but I also want people to get out there, and hope this inspires them. I think long and hard before posting coordinates, this was one I was on the fence about...thanks for the thoughtful comment, it's helpful to hear.
Hey friend...after your comment (and having read a couple other folks), I've blurred the coordinates. While this spot isn't one that I felt needed protection, if there are a few people (like yourself) out there that seem reasonable and are asking me to take out the coordinates, I'll defer to your experience and assume there may be something I'm missing. Stay safe out there, and hope to see you on the trail!
@@DocWrangler thank you for responding and being conscious about the big picture. I look forward to viewing your other videos and with any luck-seeing you on the dirt roads. Cheers!!
Trash or no trash, they are working hard to close off access to roads such as these no matter what. Some people in office are pressured by environmentalists who can’t stand the fact that humans exist and want to camp in the great outdoors. Their idea of coexisting with nature is to fence it off and keep anyone out of it and make it a crime to explore OUR land. They’re coming for any and every trail. They want you to stay in the cities and be happy
Amazing video, I found the location on Google Maps
nice, google maps makes all of this so much more interesting!

By any chance do you happen to have to coordinates of this place. Thank you in advance!
DM me on IG 👍🏼
And it hasn't stopped raining since then
seriously!
It’s not secret if you give coordinates.
true true, I suppose the actual secret spots will remain that way...this is a public road in a public place set aside for people to experience the wonder of nature so they can live a life that makes the world a better place. Hopefully some are inspired to do just that!
@@DocWrangler The theory sounds good. However this place is in my backyard and has been overrun with TP flower blossoms and trash. It’s unfortunate that the human condition leans to being lazy and short sighted. I am looking forward to the overlanding trend to lose fashion. I am not bagging on you for getting out and about. I do the same thing. Just let people find it spots for themselves. That is part of the adventure, getting lost and turned around. Next time you get through there run the length of the ridge roads and dip into the canyons, lots to discover.
@@matthewjackson6123 thanks for the thoughtful response...as for the ridge roads, we did! Though some are still closed from the fires, so we respected the signs and stayed on the open roads only, there was a lot to see up there. We like to clean up as we go, but didn't actually find any trash up there to take out (other than that smashed up corolla...and there was no way we were packing that one out!). I'll try and add some "be responsible" messaging into my next video and specifically address toilet paper, because I agree, it sucks to find that out there.
What’s the gos coordinates? (Jeeper)
Should combine drone and editing skills!

So everyone has a Top Heavy Tent, needed in So. Africa where they where invented but totally unnecessary , in the US, only steals about 6 mpg from your vehicle, why?
The benefits of a RTT are numerous...for me the top ones: away from the rattlers and more secure from the other animals too...comfort of having all the extra bedding/mattress...having the heavy-duty canvas that protects against the wind and cold, the insulation....the 90 second setup....the solar panel on top...definitely gets us out way more than having a ground tent. As for the gas mileage, it's probably more like 1 mpg less...hard to actually notice (I've tested it a bit)..
Tips: 1.) When in Big Sur, don't stop to take pictures. Stop to see. 2.) Don't buy Jeeps. They're perennially the most unreliable vehicles in the world. 3.) Turn your headlights off in the daytime. 4.) Just say no thank you to red meat. You'll live healthier, happier, wealthier and longer.
No to the red meat? You’ve gone too far!
Bro you need help. Fast.
@@gooseberry769 OK, don't stop and see in Big Sur, spend your money on a junk vehicle, turn on the lights in the daytime, and gorge yourself with pig carcass! OK, I feel better now.
@@clifford7594 there you go.
@@clifford7594damn just let the dude do want with his life.
Thanks for ruining a local spot!
Hey Sam, sorry you feel that way. You can read some of the comments above about my thoughts on this, but bottom line, this is a national forest set aside for people to explore. Those very same people pay taxes to maintain the roads, and protect it through funding the forest service, not to mention their support of CalFire's heroic work. This land is their land, I hope they explore it, are changed by it, and visit it again. Am I missing something here?
Don’t be a KAREN, BUDDY
I've worked and lived in this area and the locals are something else. They seem to think they own the area and everyone that's not currently living in the area are not worthy. The worst perpetrator of this "I'm a local" mentality that I ran into had Oklahoma license plates on his car. Total douche... As are most of the "locals".
Google satellite maps exist. Nothing is a secret anymore.

Great. The start of your video describes the vanishing solitude of Big Sur and your method of protecting it is to post a video on CZcams. Why? You’re the problem AND your driving ON WET MUDDY TRAILS tearing them up.
thanks for asking in a nice and non-inciting manner, this is something people certainly get worked up about. This spot, as awesome as it is, is on a public road in a public place, set aside to help people get in touch with nature. I've personally been inspired by others on youtube to go out and experience these things, and I've been changed for the better because of it. So the question I ask myself is this: will the world be a better place if other people experience more of this? And if so, can I help inspire them to get out there? As for the muddy roads, I would be hard-pressed to agree with you on us damaging the roads up there, we didn't leave any tire tracks more than a quarter of an inch, and that's a pretty good indicator that you're not damaging the roads. Again, thanks for the comment, this is something I spend time thinking about as well.
