@@Tysenberg ok, but that's one episode of a show that ended over 13 years ago. I'm still an emo kid at heart. There aren't movies playing this constantly, there aren't station running this often. It's their highest rated song spending 5 weeks at #2 after releasing in 2004. It was in Lords of Dogtown, an episode of The Office, and I'm sure there are other obscure references but not nearly the anthem or bop that the OP claims it was or still is for movies or that the radio still runs it on rotations

I have a box of CDs I hide in the closet, they come out for special occasions. I have digital copies too, but if you're gonna EMO out it's best to play the full album from start to finish. That way you've got enough time to break out the black fingernail polish and eyeliner, obviously we're already wearing the black hoodie.

As a grown man in his late 30s, there are a lot of things that have changed since I was a teenager. The music that I like is not one of those things. It takes me right back to high school and makes me feel young again.
Then I realize how old I am when I remember the years those songs were released. In turn, that puts me in the mood for "emo" songs like "Boulevard of Broken Dreams".
