Life as a teacher is pretty challenging, but my Sunday night routine helps prepare for my for teacher week! On Sunday nights, I like to prepare for my work week by meal prepping, lesson planning, and be extra productive. It's been a while since I talked about a day in my life as a teacher, so I thought I'd share with you my Sunday night routine as a teacher! Enjoy my teacher night routine ♥️

Maya, I'm so glad to see your positive attitude toward the change! Remember to, definitely, take your time to transition! Once you get adjusted teaching your new group of kids, I can't wait to see more videos from you about the change. I enjoy your perspectives in teaching the upper elementary school students, but I have such a soft spot for 2nd-3rd graders... i'm really looking forward to hearing from you about teaching that grade level. Finally, CHEERS and good luck in all the prepping, gathering of new resources, as well as classroom decorating! I can tell that may take up the bulk of your summer, collecting ideas (as well as physically getting things together) for the upcoming academic year. I am a high school student, and after having followed you for several months now I've started to realize that my teachers have lives outside of school and academics and they have a lot of different obligations that I had never realized until I started following you. So I just wanted to thank you for broadening my perspective!!!

I'm glad that you acknowledge that Sunday nights are kind of sad. I've hated Sunday nights since I was a kid and still dread them today. I would love to hear other people's advice on how to make Sunday nights less stressful.
Hi Maya. I've actually had the same transition, from 5th grade to 3rd. I taught 5th grade for 13 years before the move, but I was excited too. What I learned from my experience was that 3rd graders typically seem like 2nd graders for the first half of the year and then they completely evolve. It was quite interesting. But instructionally, by teaching 3rd grade, I learned so many new techniques that made me understand the gaps I noticed in 5th. You get to see the foundational work which was very helpful when I moved to 6th grade and back to 5th! LOL I wish you all the best. You will be great!

I am currently a 3rd grade teacher and I ❤️ it! 😁. You will do fabulous with them. I was a middle school teacher assistant for 8 years before becoming a teacher and it definitely was an adjustment for me at first, but now I love it! 😁.

As a teacher who has taught K-12, you also learn where you fit best by moving grades. I find I'm best with secondary students. (I teach music, so my certificate/licence is for PreK-12!)

OMG! A little story time. I was over at a friends house and she received the same Hello Fresh taco kit. We began to cut the veggies, onions, peppers. My friend, who is coincidentally named Mya, diced the poblano pepper but somehow, a seed got into her eye. Emphasis on somehow because we truly don’t know how the heck this happened. Her eye was burning terribly so she ran to the bathroom to flush her eye. I have a habit of biting my fingers so I mindlessly did that and suddenly..my lips began to burn. This is when we realized that poblano peppers are SPICY. We weren’t familiar with this pepper at all until this super spicy situation 😂

Hi Maya! I’m currently studying to become a high school teacher and your advice of “compliment them on what they are doing well” sounds very similar to what we are being taught. We were taught the “sandwich method” which is compliment, needs improvement in x area, compliment. Or the “two stars and a wish” method that follows the same concept where it’s praise on two things they did well, and one thing you would like them to work on.

Best of luck to you in third grade. It is an adjustment to go from upper grade to third. Do your best to see the world from the eyes of a third grader, and you will be able to relate to them. They will develop more independence throughout the year and will grow under your guidance. Enjoy the rest of the week and have a lovely Easter.

3)CRY IN DESPAIR...
4) life is not fair...because just yesterday was Tuesday...
5) cry myself to sleep...
Next morning
6) wake up with a killer headache...

Healthy and delicious! I like 3rd grade more than 5th grade! But it is always hard to prepare everything again... I get you! Now I teach in college training preservice teachers to teach English language learners. When I’m given a new course to teach, I have to spend 3 hrs to prepare an 1 hr lesson! And teaching at college level is so much better easier than early grades... I’m so excited for you!

I used to use erasable pens too - however, I’ve heard that if they get too hot, the writing can disappear. Of course, you can get it back by cooling it off, but it brings all the old writing with it too. So be careful where you leave it! 😉 great video as always! :)

Can you make a video on how you structure your prayer/Bible time? In all your routine videos you talk about spending time with God so I was wondering if you had any tips for how you decide to spend that time, if that makes any sense?
I think the most important thing is setting a time slot and a time frame because it’s so easy to disregard our relationship with God when the world is constantly seeking our attention (notifications, tv shows, Instagram posts).
