When they say "long game" what they really are saying is we're ENDGAME! If the show had continued we would have seen Maya date a whole bunch of other guys in her teen years. But in the end when she finally matured and reaches her adult years she would have circled back to her "long game aka END GAME" Josh. I have a feeling that if they were to fo a flashforward into the future we would find out that Maya eventually ended up marrying Josh, and she is now officially part of the Matthews family.

So Maya and Josh promised "Long Game" to each other, (0:49-0:52) which basically means they were promising to marry when they got older. I don't know why people ship Lucaya. Honestly, Joshaya had way more chemistry and Lucas should be with Riley.
We ship lucaya because we see chemistry around there unlike rucas... Zay and Maya have great chemistry, and just because Zay offered to keep Maya company while Lucas and Riley go on dates doesn’t mean anything. Riarkle, oh please they have great chemistry, but he already admitted he only likes Riley and Maya as a friend. Besides Smarckle is way cuter. They are both nerdy and they challenge each other.

When Josh sees Maya gets in, he hugs her and kisses her in congratulations. And says, "I told you I would play the long game". In the house at the time are Lucas, Riley, Zay, Farkle, Smackle, Auggie, Topanga, Cory, Shawn, and Katy. Katy and Shawn interrupt the kiss to hug Maya, and Shawn is trying to avoid the fact that his best friends brother just kissed his daughter.

And every time we saw each other he would hug me for a while, or sit close to me, and hold my hand. He knew it meant a lot. But now looking back he didn’t wanted to hurt me. And im glad he didn’t. He was a great person but we were not destined for each other. Im now married and with kids. And he is Gay and single 😂
