- England outmuscled Argentina as they claimed the victory in the Bronze final at Rugby World Cup 2023. After being edged out by South Africa at the Stade de France in Paris last weekend, England were able to regroup and repeat their victory over Los Pumas from earlier in the tournament, after Argentina had themselves lost to New Zealand in the semi-finals last weekend.

Respect to Argentinian rugby from this Englishman. You gave us a hard game and have a good team. There was also no disgrace at all in losing to a team like the All Blacks. You can be proud of of your team's efforts! I will be interested to see how you progress in future.
As for England, I am hoping this unexpected upturn in performances and results is something sustainable, and was not just a flash in the pan.
Thank you friend, something to highlight and a great detail that perhaps many people who love this sport from many countries in the world and do not know it, rugby in Argentina is Amateur, the professionals of the lovers of this sport would really love to see the number of boys who practice it and their coaches who do it for the love of rugby, without charging a single cent for teaching them how to practice it.
Thanks friend, I really enjoyed the game. Congratulations on third place. Greetings from Argentina.
Well done Argentina. 4th place in world rugby is a very good result. Your fellow Bangladeshi brothers will always support you and love you no matter what. ❤

Sanchez missed a kick 😳 can you believe it!!! Really feel for him. One of the greatest flyhalfs to ever play the game.
Biggest kick of his life ?
Should’ve gone for the corner, they’d more chance of scoring that way. More chance of England conceding a penalty. Wrong decision that cost them the match.
Seems the Argentinians didn't want to win. With 5 minutes remaining, definitely go for the try.
The decision to go for the 3 points was just moronic. They pretty much deserved to lose after making that decision
As an Argentinian fan I feel for Sanchez, but I'm glad they ended the wc improving their game and playing much better than in the groups face. Congrats to England for their 3rd place, and let's go Springboks!!

Worst decision EVER. And even if he got the kick, then what? Even scores? So stupid i was screaming at the tv
My heart goes out to Nico Sanchez. Cheika wasted a great opportunity to play with a proper flyhalf in this world cup. Carreras at 10 experiment failed terribly. Nico will always be one of the greatest flyhalfs to ever play the game. Such a shame Cheika's stubbornness ruined it.

Well thats truly unfortunate.
I'm a 55yo English man who played to a bad standard when he was young, I never really took it serious but apparently I was quite good at that level between laughter and daftness and now 30 years later I've slowed down but I can say that I've always kept a weather eye on Argentina and I've had the real pleasure of watching them come from an almost joke team to rank outsiders to bare contenders to genuine contenders to fully deserving where they are now, they need to be recognised as a first tier team right up there with the All Blacks and everyone else who covet that title.
So although England won today, it's no longer a foregone conclusion and it hasn't been for the last ten years if you ask me.
We still need that extra push and getting rid of that stage fright when it comes to defining matches, I think. Still can’t be placed as “favourite” except against third tier teams, and today it was no exception. It’s true we have defeated all top tier teams at least once, but that is not yet the usual outcome.
@@calzabbath
My friend, what more do you need to be a top tier team?
This is sport, this is rugby so when will you realise that Argentina are a first tier team?
Only when you regularly beat other top tier teams?
Nobody has ever done that. not even the mighty All Blacks!
No top tier team reliably beats other top tier teams.
You have arrived amigo, you truly have and you know what?
You should embrace it my friend because you truly are top tier.
Much love from England.
I wish I shared your optimism Sir, but I see things differently. Argentina still fails when facing the Big Ones, at least in key matches (exception: 3rd place in France 2007); it's not like Italy, whom in my opinion hasn't had a good development in the 6 Nations even when they have access to funds and granting foreigners citizenship, but at the same time both the quality of still being an amateur sport here plus a certain social disdain towards rugby (they are renowned for their weekend brawls in clubs and gang beating homeless people, although any hardcore fan would minimise that) makes rugby in Argentina a forever fourth to seventh sport in importance, way behind basketball, hockey and volleyball; no father wants his child to play rugby except in Buenos Aires' or La Plata's northern suburbs. In New Zealand, for example, rugby is the "people's sport", here is only for elites or well-to-do professional middle class. That generates a complex landscape in which I even dare to think that most Pumas players wouldn't like a multitudinous homecoming greeting just because it would strip them down of their "exclusivity".
Apart from social analyses though, many beginner mistakes are still committed, or bad choices like today's Sánchez failed kick when they should have gone for the line. That cost us the match. England on the other hand played wisely and using all available resources, as when they won the opening match without even needing to score a try. That is still the visible difference between a team who still thinks of beating big rivals as a heroic deed and another really concentrated in winning and nothing else.
Still remember fondly my visits to Oxford so many years ago. I remember the football and rugby matches being aired simultaneously on TV, which speaks of both sports' equal importance in England, while here only cable channels would broadcast rugby on a Saturday afternoon.
Have a great life Sir. @@antonrudenham3259

Greetings from England!
Sportsmanship is an old and very nice habit. Congratulations for both teams and greetings from Buenos Aires!
I really think ‘Los Pumas’ could have used someone like Cordero out there. The team had so much heart and passion, but having a fearless game-changer would’ve been fantastic for gaining those extra yards. Argentina’s game was all about spirit and bravery, though! Huge congrats to them. Being in the top 4 globally, especially with non-professional rugby, is an amazing feat!” 👏🏉🇦🇷
They needed Delguy and Cordero.
That kick block to try is such an amazing moment, he pulls it out of nowhere, so it took me a second to process it at the time. Crazy final and respect to the Pumas for taking us up to the wire
As someone from a non rugby nation and unfamiliar with the rules, may i ask a honest question about that?
I have seen other instances where (in my eyes the same happened but) the referee then blew his whistle and decided that the guy who "blocked" the kick with his hands lost control of the ball forward. (at least that was how the commentators explained it) In this instance it's "ok". What makes the difference?
@@nirfz A charge down isn't the same as a knock-on, because a knock on means you've lost control of the ball. The player in a charge down never HAS control of the ball because they're blocking a kick, so they can't lose it. Idk what 'other instances' you've seen so it's hard to say why those were knock-ons, but they're likely to do with an attempt to catch the ball rather than block it

You can win and you can lose, but it is very important the way you win or lose. In the first game they played in this tournament, Argentina showed an appaling attitude, not sure if it was because they were nervous, or maybe because manny people saw them as favorites considering that England wasn't in great form, but It was incredibly dissapointing not seeing the passion, the fire, to fight for it.
England doesn't propose much to be honest, is a very methodical style, but quite boring considering how fast modern rugby has become, but it is undeniable that they know what to do, and they showed it in this tournament specially in the first match against Argentina and South Africa, where they control the pace and positioning with a kick heavy approach, and trying to capitalize the mistakes.
Unfortunatly, Argentina are once again their worst enemies, they have burst of some beautiful rugby, like on the first try (despite the forward pass), and some increidble runs and hits from Mateo Carreras. At this level you have to be a lot more clinical, and a lot more precise. Santiago Carreras is a great running back, but I don't think he has the vision or the IQ, and a very inconsistent kicking to play at 10. Some of those kicks cost Argentina the game.
I don't think that England deserved to win, I think Argentina propose a lot more, specially in the second half. But unfortunatly couldn't capitalize. Except the first try, every other point England scored came from mistakes made by the Argies than their own success in attack.
Lastly, I think the ref didn't have a great game, I think that they obviously made a mistake on the forward pass for argentina's first try, but then it felt that he was compensating for that mistake. In particular the scrum.
This felt a lot more a loss from Argentina, than a win from England. Still it was an enjoyable much, and congratulations to England on the third place, and on losing only one match against the reigning champions by one point.
"Argentina are once again their worst enemies". I like the way you put it, and as an Argentinian fan I have to agree. If we want to consistently beat the top 6 teams we have to make less mistakes and extend the concentration to 80 minutes, not 40.
@@MeRioDeLaPlata Couldn't agree more... Argentina didn't start playing for the first 20 minutes... I honestly thought that it was gonna be a similar match to the group stage. Fortunately I was wrong, as they turned it around, but there is still that frustration of knowing they could have won it, with very minor adjustments.
England scored more points that Argentina, therefore they deserved the win. It’s not a hard idea to grasp.
Argentina should have won. Well done to them stepping up their game!
