@@fredfrond6148 At -30°C ambient temperature, the average capacity retention of long blade batteries dropped to 78.96 percent, while the Aegis Short Blade Battery retained 90.54 percent of its capacity, according to Geely Auto. In terms of safety, the Aegis Short Blade Battery utilizes a high-strength, thermally stable, heat-resistant diaphragm, and the high-stability diaphragm is paired with a safety electrode for higher energy density and safety, it said. Geely Auto applies its in-house developed self-fusing technology to the electrode surface to stop short circuits in the event of an accident. A test showed that the Aegis Short Blade Battery was simultaneously pierced by eight 5-millimeter-diameter steel needles at the same time and left to stand for an hour with no ill effects. In addition, the battery passed six extreme tests including seawater corrosion immersion, extreme cold environment, high-frequency pack bottom scraping, 26-ton overweight rolling, single-pack side collision, and fire roasting, according to Geely Auto. The Aegis Short Blade Battery will first be used in Geely's Galaxy series of E5 all-electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) model. Geely Auto's batteries have been supplied mainly by suppliers including Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL, SHE: 300750), while it has also been developing its own batteries. The company had formed power battery joint ventures with CATL, Farasis Energy and South Korea's LG Energy Solution over the past few years. - cnevpost dot com
This could be a great first step into the world of EV's for a lot of people. I see the ATTO 3 all over Melbourne, I think because it was the cheapest "family" electric SUV for a long time. The MG SZ EV is now under $35K here, so I expect to see more of those on the road soon, but when the E5 arrives, it could easily take that mantle. I'd even consider trading my "aging" 2021 MG SZ EV for one.
Just shows how incompetent our government is. We could ask these conglomerates to set up a factory down here in Australia. We have vast lands and resources the industry needs. and it’d be really good for employment and our paths to a greener future.
@lluow Australia geographic location makes it move expensive for the export market. Malaysia is more a natural choice for manufacturing. Besides ASEAN market is considerably bigger then the aussie market. Not the fault of your gov at all.
BYD is going to be better once their next generation blade battery goes out to market. For the meantime it's Geely now who's holding the most efficient and safest EV battery in the market.
Why is the BYD better? The reviews I have seen for the Galaxy seem very good. I like the Atto but didn't love. I would like to see the Zeekr X here in the 🇬🇧
My question is, which geely vehicle are you referring to when u compare it with BYD. We have a 2020 x70 (boyue in china) it its quality are better then Otto 3 we get in 2024.
The best feature you dont mention, thats the Aegis short blade LFP-batteries, much more energy dense than them from BYD, more charging speed, still high capacity at low temperatures..they are next level!
Likely but you compare the batterie which is not even out there with the blade battery from byd which is in mass production and 4 years old. Lunched 2020. So lets see the new version end of the year.
An important part that you missed is that the Galaxy E5 uses the new Geely Aegis battery (Golden Battery) which is arguably the safest in the world
@@fredfrond6148 true, they are all pretty safe, but the Aegis has also been put through more extensive testing, which the others have not.

Proton and geely are partners in malaysia. They need malaysia to create right hand drive for nz , UK, Australia.

I think Geely owns Proton.
@@Lost_Johnny nope, the share only 49%, not 100% share holder.

They probably will come to the UK. An E5 has just been photographed driving in Melbourne. Expected next year.
Really? I’ve been thinking about test driving it. Good news.

To be fair, the Atto3 is 1 or more years old. The E5 is not even out. So lets see the new Atto3 and then compare them.

Is it yet another SUV style car above £20k ? If so we have quite enough of those already.
Game over for Tesla!

Why is the E5 moniker so popular? There is Chery Omoda E5 and there is Geely Galaxy E5. They should have used O5 and G5 respectively.
