Hey bro. Be honest about the suture kit. As a former medic myself (in South Africa) I know how you really feel. It is horribly irresponsible for the manufacturer and for battlbox to give that to untrained people. We both know how badly people are going to be hurt by this.
As for the knife, I couldn’t find it any cheeper than $94 new but I don’t do eBay. The whole box was meh for me but will find use for most of it. If I had to guess about which other boxes you think bring more value, PMP would be one of them. Thanks for another great video and keep on keeping on bro!
I use those butane gas stoves when we go camping, I have two I use, great in a power outage as well. However $29.99 I think is steep, they are £9.99-£14.99 in the UK, the gas canisters are normally 4 for £5.00 I went through 5 canister this last trip of 5 nights
"Its not bad....but its not good" LOL Definitely looking to get an Aquapod - great idea that I agreee I would never have looked for before, Being someone who still lives in Hurricane alley!
17:23 I understand what you mean as in you need to sterilise all the equipment making sure the wound is away from all chances of infection and it is sanitised properly. I agree that people will think that they are masters at suturing and end up injuring or worsening someone's wound. Those kinds of things require proper knowledge, experience, practice and even qualification. Also, really liked this box it had some useful items in it. Others being more advanced, like the suturing and aquapod (which is very smart, I didn't know anything about filling bathtubs up im going to research that, honestly nevermind not knowing that the aquapod existed) yh but it was a good box even tho the neck knife was kinda disappointing in the end 👌❤
Words fail me :( ... Camping stove and the head torch are the only things worth their salt, the neck knife is not too bad,but as you pointed out, you're paying a lot extra for a name and 4 numbers laser etched on the blade than you would with buying the exact same item without the etching.
I love your reviews. You are always spot on. Items like the suture kit and the time Battlebox gave out items to do triage are not skills the average buyers are going to have.I cancelled my Battlebox right before the got rid of the themes, and I haven't regretted it. I could get a lot of prep and other related items for 150 a month.
Totally agree on the aquapod...great idea...the suture kit does bring to mind the old adage about a little knowledge being a dangerous thing. The community college around here does offer some medically oriented courses...basic first aid, cpr, etc... I don't know how much deeper than that they go...I'd be super scared of someone turned loose with just some suture setups and their curiosity!
Excellent unboxing video as always, Doc. You are very entertaining even if you don't mean to be. I look forward to your opinions and definitely value the one about the suture kit. Makes me wonder if BB even asked others' opinions who work in that field before deciding to include it to the public. Kinda weird. I really liked how the more you thought about the Aquapod and its purpose, the more you liked it. I have to agree about that product for sure. And yes, everyone knows very well that the MSRP of the knife went through the roof just for the laser etching. Thanks for sharing and keep up the excellent work, brother. 👊
Not agood box i agree about sutre kit and that dinky knife. But if i was out in the bush and cut myself badly i might consider sutre kit after cleaning out with a wound prep kit with saline. The native people in Australia use huge ants to hold wound together with thier jaws and break of head from body. I also carry an epirb at all times Stuart Palmer Adelaide Sth Australia
Better take care of that blue concrete screw that popped up on the top edge of your review area. You know kids in bare feet have a knack of finding that stuff. Just looking out for you and yours. I've heard instead of learning to suture , it's easier do get a few medical staplers. What are your thoughts.
Staples present a whole different pain in the ass in two areas; the edges of the wound need to be held together while you're stapling, and that can sometimes be a two person job. When I worked in the ER it was a Nurse's or Tech's job to help the MD by using the forceps to keep the skin close and even so the staples could catch just right and close the wound evenly and neatly. Then you have the issue of taking them out once everything is healed up. On the one hand you could say that you'll let a real Doc handle that part, but if you are operating in the scenario where you don't have any of that available, you'll have to take them out later. It can be a bit more painful and kind of a process if you're inexperienced. It's a lot easier to take stitches out.
What do I think...its meh. I was thinking the other day when I watched your PMP box vid that 3 of his boxes are the same price as two of the battlboxes. Sometimes I think you get really cool knives with Battlbox that help offset the cost and that with only a few items in PMP if you don't like one or two it is a waste, but with a box like this there is no way two of these boxes compete with 3 PMP boxes for value. I do like the stove and the aquapod. Don't think I would like having Battlbox's CZcams shill's name on my "limited edition" knife though. Great for him that such a knife exists but why would I want his name on my knife? Anyway, thanks Doc for reviewing it!
Battlbox always blows out their prices. I go with tacpack. One "level" and geared more towards shooting is more up my alley. Always loves the videos though doc.
WOW already 30 views but only 5 likes. Come on yall hit that like button or I will send all the heat and humidity from my house to were ever you are LOL.
About the suture kit, I don't think it's a very good idea to be like "oh take a medical class" I think this type of set is a good idea so they know the basics if needed for normal situations, but at the same time there are free lessons on CZcams and instructions and whatnot. For some preppers, we do not have the money to buy a bunch of high tech equipment or go through medical courses all the time. I'm planning on taking an EMT class just to have the knowledge for myself... I have no physical capacity to work in emergency full time. Unless they teach sutures in that class, I doubt I'd be able to learn it. I am struggling as a prepper with Fibromyalgia as it is. I understand where you are coming from, but if there was an emergency while hiking, it could help keep the people going til they can get help. I prefer looking into natural or non lidocaine ways to relieve pain from it as well since I am allergic to it. This very reason is why I'm making my own prepping channel to prove that a poor prepper with Fibromyalgia can survive and learn skills that a lot of people think is impossible.
Also I don't have battle box because it is too expensive. I prefer alpha survival boxes because I like saving money on emergency food and water. I also love gardening, so the seeds are perfect. I don't need as much gear as everyone else does. I am actually planning on getting a bigger version of that kit that has space to make your own cuts as well. It has more layers to it as well. I think it's fine to practice in case you are the only one available to do a quick stitch just to keep going until help arrives. However, I will be going into pig skin once I'm done knowing the basics. But that is after I move.
You're not going to learn suturing in an EMT class. There's not really anything invasive at the EMT level. The EMT-B centers around basic life support and physical stability of wounds and injury.
I hate when people try to treat themselves and make the situation worse than it ever was. Wound closure shouldn't be done by people who have no clue what they're doing. A six step picture card is not good enough. I'm an LVN and have done firefighting, and I don't have the skills to suture. I can do wound closure with bandaging materials (i.e. steri-strips) though.
I think the med kit is just for temporary closer of a wound till you can get them to the hospital. The neck knifes is awesome because I collect all stuff with 1776 all the way to 1976 the year I was born.
You never stitch and ship! You use dressing and bandages (not band-aid) to get them to the hospital. I think this is meant in the box more for the horrible end of the world situation where the hospital is not an option any longer. It's truly meant for medical professionals to practice the skill, which is why it's tested and approved by medical students.
@@jatbatman Well he said its really not that good and he put it in the don't like it pile and he is a medic. I am not any thing close to that but I have sewed up my hand before and then went to the hospital. I cut my hand all the way to the bone. I with the help from my wife sewed it up and put tape over it. The Doc told me I did one hell of a job.
@@GoodOlBoy1976 I'm a nurse and did volunteer firefighting, I don't like it for pretty much the exact reasons he gave. I mean a bandaging kit with steri-strips, triangle bandages, tegaderm, gauze pads, wound packing gauze, pressure dressing, tape, coband and some ace wrap would be a great alternative to this. I'd even be okay with a coagulating agent being included.
I liked the aqua pod, the headlamp, and the suture kit. The knife is meh but I know I can trade it, the stove is meh may trade it also. haven’t tried the bar. All in all it was okay not outstanding but okay. I don’t plan on stitching anyone up but I would like to learn anyway you never know what the future holds. I think one or two more little items is what we’re used to but really not any fluff this box.
As much as I want to learn to administer sutures, I know I'm better off sticking to my cls training with pressure bandages and tourniquets. In a pinch, I know to flush the wound multiple times with clean water and slap a bit of cyano glue on it. Gotta love liquid stitches. Funny story, I learned about the aquapod style products years ago from a sitcom. A father was laughing at another while bragging about the bag full of water he had in his tub for the coming storm.
Do you mean stainless steel vs carbon steel?, because all steel has at least some carbon in it. Stainless steel has 12-13% chromium or more, which makes it corrosion resistant. Carbon steel generally has a low amount of chromium or just no chromium. There isn't really any say in which is better. Depends on what steel it is and how hard it can get and such, and obviously what you use it for. If you were gonna be fishing you would want a steel that is corrosion resistance hence you would need a higher chromium steel. If you need a steel that can hold an edge really well and be tough then carbon steels are a better choice.
Isn't this like the 8th consecutive, sucky Battlbox? Barrel & Blade has TOTALLY upped their game and has put out awesome boxes for at least the last 3 or 4 months, that's why I just subscribed to them.
I get the advanced box, and other than the food, I was happy. The trauma kit was a meh item for me, that I can get from Amazon for 35 bux. And the knife was disappointing to say the least. I'm glad I only spend 50bux
