Why gutters though instead of 6-12inch pipes layed underneath the ground for the flow of the drainage?

We considered both (looked at the pros and cons). Either works! For maintenance purposes, we chose the gutters as if there is a blockage of any sort in the underground pipes, it requires a lot more to fix it then the open gutters! Ultimately, this is a decision that needs to be made by the individual building. Hope that helps!
