How to get an M5 Bolt stuck in a Rivnut. Remove rivnut flange with rotary tool, drop nut into frame, remove old nut via BB, replace with fresh rivnut..... That's how it's actually done.
Your very close to doing it correctly. No need to drill the nuts like you did. Use the flange nut threaded to the long screw. Now hold the screw in place and wrench the nut down to the nutsert to get a pulling action on the screw. This will save the treads from stripping if you turn the screw. Read this again. You're welcome
If the rivnut got loose usually is because of the hole in the frame. So, "re-riveting" it with a wrong "invented" tool would be as efficient as giving a cream rub to a wooden leg. Anyway, if you want to do the quite useless re-riveting, at least, use the proper tool.
Just use an oversized nut. Drilling out two nuts doesn't make any sense. But a shop mechanic is going to use the pop rivet style toll to tighten the riv nut.
Tx for video. But you don’t have to drill those bolts. I watched another video and easily did it in 1 min. But I also applied some epoxy glue under it for added stiffness ( learned it from carbon repair guy who used riveter on other ones)
Once I tried using a bottle during a race. I could barely grab the bottle, squeeze, and put it back without almost crashing. Hydration packs for me please.
All you needed to do was thread a nut up the bolt screw it into rivnut. Hold the bolt head and wind nut down to rivnut an tighten. Job done without all the extra faf
Okay so I was going to go hard on this video, but it like actually works and this is a pretty good idea. Alternatively you could just get a bigger Bolt. But I mean it works, so good job
All you need to do is use a screw driver or pry bar. Carefully put pressure upward from under the bottle holder while simultaneously tightening the hardware. I use this all the time at my job.
Risk damaging the frame, he made it over complicated (just use one larger bolt, no need to drill out 2 M5s). It works well and it will hold for ages unless the frame is damaged.
Why you DON'T use nutserts/rivnut, and instead weld threaded bungs to the frame! The builder can easily do it while building the frame, if it is not done look for a higher quality bike!
The intro - when the guy cut off a bolt using a handsaw (despite having an angle grinder right there) - was NOT PROMISING - however, the solution made was brilliant. In my experience this often doesn't work and it's just as much work to drill it out and replace it with a brand new rivnut anyway
Works great.
