    Way too much extra work; no need to drill out nuts. Only the bolt and a larger M6 nut is necessary.

      Perhaps more importantly, brush some anti-seize on the bolt threads. That will prevent them from getting stuck and twisting the rivnuts when you need to remove them.

    This is a tutorial on how not to do something. PEM nuts are not complicated. A bolt, washer, and 1 nut would have solved your issue.

      @@danfrank-5294 How does a bottle cage bolt thread become loose? The thread isn't under any major stress, or anywhere near stresses that'll strip the thread. I've tightened those bolts (not using a bottle cage) pretty tight. Too tight before. Never once have I had a thread somehow strip or become loose. Wasn't dude just using the wrong sized bolt?

    Did he drill the nut with flange to take the thread out. If so how does the bolt scree in to it when it is in the frame?

    In my experience this often doesn't work and it's just as much work to drill it out and replace it with a brand new rivnut anyway

    You screw the nut onto the bolt, cut it off and then unscrew the nut and the thread remains intact. Not like you did and then you have to file it

    How to get an M5 Bolt stuck in a Rivnut.
    Remove rivnut flange with rotary tool, drop nut into frame, remove old nut via BB, replace with fresh rivnut..... That's how it's actually done.

    Your very close to doing it correctly.
    No need to drill the nuts like you did.
    Use the flange nut threaded to the long screw. Now hold the screw in place and wrench the nut down to the nutsert to get a pulling action on the screw. This will save the treads from stripping if you turn the screw. Read this again.

    If the rivnut got loose usually is because of the hole in the frame. So, "re-riveting" it with a wrong "invented" tool would be as efficient as giving a cream rub to a wooden leg. Anyway, if you want to do the quite useless re-riveting, at least, use the proper tool.

    Just use an oversized nut. Drilling out two nuts doesn't make any sense.
    But a shop mechanic is going to use the pop rivet style toll to tighten the riv nut.

    Tx for video. But you don’t have to drill those bolts. I watched another video and easily did it in 1 min. But I also applied some epoxy glue under it for added stiffness ( learned it from carbon repair guy who used riveter on other ones)

    All you needed to do was thread a nut up the bolt screw it into rivnut. Hold the bolt head and wind nut down to rivnut an tighten. Job done without all the extra faf

    All you need to do is use a screw driver or pry bar. Carefully put pressure upward from under the bottle holder while simultaneously tightening the hardware. I use this all the time at my job.

      Risk damaging the frame, he made it over complicated (just use one larger bolt, no need to drill out 2 M5s). It works well and it will hold for ages unless the frame is damaged.

    Why you DON'T use nutserts/rivnut, and instead weld threaded bungs to the frame! The builder can easily do it while building the frame, if it is not done look for a higher quality bike!

    The intro - when the guy cut off a bolt using a handsaw (despite having an angle grinder right there) - was NOT PROMISING - however, the solution made was brilliant. This made me realise - after 20 years of working on bikes - that it's just a rivnut for the bottle cage - cablamo. Well done. Also - any rivnutting tool can in that case be used to tighten up the lose fastener in the frame. Mind blown. Greetings from Latvia.

      You’ve never made anything before have you? Unless you have a zip disc installed, making a clean cut on a little M6 bolt is far cleaner and faster than getting out an angle grinder.
