- Join me on my first ULH flight on-board Etihad Airways on it's new route to Los Angeles!
EY has recently purchased the Long Range 777-200LR from Air India specifically for this service making it one of the longest flights in commercial service by the 200LR. However, once launched on June 1st, 2014 the A340-500 was deployed.
We start at Abu Dhabi International Airport T3 that features the US Boarder Preclearance facility before boarding our aircraft for the 13504 Km journey.

Great video, I just flew this route today and will be putting it on YT later today, but this was well put together in my opinion. And as this was made 2 years ago, the boarding song is different now but still I like this boarding song a lot better than the new one. Great video, keep up the good work!

These 777-237LRs of Air India have upgraded engines from GE for Extended Take off weight and hence these LRs have the GE90-115B1L instead of the usual 110B offered on the LRs
Etihad's LRs have GE90-115B1L. Awesome video!
The A345 taunting you at AUH... Can't help to think what would have been a great flight and a memorable experience on it, but sadly you missed by a hair. Spotted a young kid in C class... what a lucky fella, although I doubt that he enjoyed it as much as we would've. The cabin looks nice a soothing with many similarities to that of SQ.
It was almost perfect. I like the furbishing of EY.
Pro tip, the actual wall outlet charges your phone faster than the USB port.
Watch out for roaming charges on the Aeromobile air system because it can be expensive for your provider, check with your provider before you board your flight, or wait until a text message comes on your phone in flight. keep in mind you probably have racked up roaming charges tho.

Nice videos. I personally have never travelled on Etihad. First started using Emirates Business Class. However after a couple of years started flying with Qatar Business and its much better especially width of seats. Etihad looks even better. Guess I'll give it a try soon on the Abu Dhabi to Sao Paulo route

On April 23, 2013 ever fly Etihad Airways ' trip and my Transit in Singapore and Dubai to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, departing from Changi pukut 20.00 Singapore time, I was on my way in love Makroni foods and snack breads, just I feel there are some foods that are already stale, dilidah I finally I waste, due to the iu to Etihad Aitways any food please check back as possible from the place of production have long on the plane, to live in warm, because kemasann is wearing Aluminum Foil, to check back trima love from Mr. Dadang Kartiwan

Back in the "old" days of the 1980S the transit traffic between the US and Indian Subcontinent were mostly taken care off by Air India & PANAM B747S out of JFK via Heathrow and Frankfurt to India...today every faraway city on the US west coast must have non-stop to India and the Gulf?????
I guess airlines do their homework and study load factors, aircraft options and if the numbers make sence then they will deploy Gulf-US west coast. When EK introduced LAX a few years ago they used their 777-200LR and soon they announced double daily flights. Nowthey have a daily A380 service (I assume the load factor is at least 70%)

Maybe one day EY will bring the a 380 to LAX.
I think they already have that in their plans.
But for EY a 380 the first destination is about to be LHR. Now QR is the next to fly the a 380.
@hmasurg i want to know emirates vs ethiad who wins in all sorts ... for uae to usa and vice and versa sector flights what's your opinion..... in economy class
In my opinion Etihad wins. The advantages of EY would be flying out of AUH that has the US preclearance facility despite having a smaller less appealing airport in terms of facilities than DXB. Emirates offers more US destinations and frequencies but that may prove not to be important in your case. EK although being a world class airline and a brand well known around the world, I do find something more charming and appealing of a smaller yet highly regarded airline. In terms of on board services in economy there is not much difference though I would say in terms of IFE the Ice system on EK can not be beaten and is much more better than EY. Also from my experience the crew on EK are a bit more engaging and welcoming.

+Aman Thaker (KINGFISHERS) EY staff are great, but perhaps in flight crew on EK is a touchbbetter from my experience so far. The pre clearance is for any passenger flying to the US from AUH with EY, it is in effect a US governmental facility once you reach NYC it would be like you have been flying domestic. With 9W from India it would be ideal to pick EY. Safe travels.. Hope to see your video.

Why not just use their -300ER doesn't make sense?
I assume they'd like to test a new route with a smaller yet longer range aircraft, since they were able to get all of 5 dirt cheap at 336.5 million dollars only. I think with time the 300ER will also fly to LAX.
Bernd Klüver but emirates use usually the -300ER's to San Francisco and LAX, it is the same distance also from Dubai to LAX

Emre Minaz Emirates' flight to SFO is a weight restricted flight, and Emirates leaves around 20 seats empty on the 77W on the DXB-SFO sector.

Air India has not been satisfied with the 200LR and all 5 have been sold to Etihad who intern are planning on disposing of their A340-500. They sold all 5 for the super cheap price of 336.5 million USD.

am1966ath LAX has been dropped by AI for a few years now (744, I think via JFK). I think they still offer direct JFK/EWR service on the 77W but I'm unsure.

Are these ultra long Gulf-US West coast flights made for all the locals or is it with transit traffic from the Indian Subcontinent in mind? Neither PIA nor Air India can compete with the likes of Emirates,Qatar airways or Etihad?? I wonder..are there sooo many people who wants to fly Dubai-Seattle or Dubai-San Francisco or the flight above?? or are they "propaganda" routes to fly the flag??
EY/EK/QR are poised to take over the market. This ULH flight is timed for good connections for many flights from the Indian subcontinent and some of the flights from across the ME. It is clear what these airlines are planning. With EY having a 24% stake in 9W that's just another example. Indeed, most of the passengers were from South Asia. EK has many flights to the US, and like you I agree that some destinations like SEA, BOS, MIA (QR) and PHL (QR) don't seem to be traffic prone,but it is a start and they are getting the slots before they become hard to secure. If things go as they plan the planes will be full quickly. 15 years ago, who would have though that EK would need to open JFK, now they serve more at least double daily flights and MXP-JFK sector with A380s.

am1966ath Major US carriers had never been big players in the ME or India, they are letting their alliance patners take any traffic they may have via their Euro hubs (UA with LH at FRA) (AA with BA at LHR) (DL with AF or KL at CDG or AMS). I think UA will attempt to grow a bit in the ME.. they serve KWI, DXB, BAH and are thinking of opening RUH. They know that it's hard to break that market and so they are at odds with the MEB3 and trying to secure more airlines in their alliances.
hmasurg PANAM served some Middle Eastern destination together with India..so did TWA but you are right, that wasn t trunk routes..I asked because on some of your excellent videos from Dubai there are US airliners(Delta & UA)..
