Michael Enkrumah was part of Olive Tree Records family (1982-19870, when BAD BRAINS Paul Hudson aka Joseph I started to cross over to reggae with his band HR, with brother Earl on drums. -- on most of the albums we had awesome backup players that also had played on Michael Enkrumah's records and videos in Washington DC at the time....
Olive Tree staff, JimiJam and Kenny Dread produced many all ages "hardcore" concerts downtown and Olive Tree bands Outrage, HR, Psychotics, Beefeater, as well as those bands from compilation tapes DCROX (which is still available on English LP online) were all musicians so versatile, they could skank, ska and roots rock reggae as well as thrash harder than some white metal bands and were more hard core rock too! I saw a video once where someone said Joseph betrayed hard core with reggae, but his tribe thought bringing the message to the youthmen dem and crossing over to reggae was the whole point of the times!
Thanks for that history. I know Banks, he played with some of those bands? That dude can play hard.
