    A recent new chicken owner here.... About to become A trapper now too as A consequence of owning chickens Lets just say I now understand why some people will swerve to hit A coon or possum. Going to have egg layers may as well use them as bait.

    Glad to see you put another trapping video out I enjoy watching them!! One thing I've learned over the years with dog proofs is try to set them were raccoons can't reach anything while in trap. Will 99.9% eliminate chance of racoons pulling out of trap or pulling anchor out when they can't get leverage on anything. Amazing how much strength they have when they can get a hold of something with those hands to pull on! Good luck on line and keep videos coming.

      Here's some tips to help.
      Scout before season find sign.
      Remember kiss keep it simple
      Location location location
      Get yourself a few trapping books
      I.e.dirt hole basics , flat sets and its variations, if you trap beaver beaver 2000 is a good one. Also dind books on the animals you want to trap.
      Don't underestimate Duke they're a good trap for beginners. Been trapping for years and have some from when I first started.
      If your passing coon sign to set a coyote set you just left a 5$ bill laying in the woods
      If your going to sell the fur you catch learn how to put it up more time but better money.
      Get a good book or video on putting fur up.
      Good luck and last but not least. Keep a trapping log. It will pay off in the end. Way I keep mine is set location type of set put in and lure or bait used. If you want to go more in depth also helps what the weather did the night of catch and temperature.

    I've never understood the point of modern trapping, do you really eat raccoons? And if you don't eat them is it for fun? I don't see how catching something in a trap could be fun, like, there's no sport to it like there is with hunting.. you just sit and wait. Oh well, to each their own.

      I do animal trapping for work. Can't say I like it people treat the animals like shit. Easiest way to solve a animal problem is prevent it by sealing entry points. I don't get how people can do it for a fun hobby I believe outdoorsman should be preserving and protecting . There's no thrill in trapping raccoons to me they are to easy to catch

    • @EngineeringHooksets
      @EngineeringHooksets Před 3 lety +3

      @@americanchaos2688 I agree. People make all sorts of excuses like "oh but if I dont trap them they'll kill the _____ population!!" When in reality nature was just fine before people came along. I dont have a problem with trapping or hunting anything as long as you eat it. But all these people that kill a bunch of animals for a few pelts are a problem in my opinion.

    • @forthegoodlife2
      @forthegoodlife2 Před 3 lety +5

      @@EngineeringHooksets People, over the years, have manipulated the balance of nature. I live in Missouri and the wild turkey population was, in the past, devestated. Through a repopulation program they have made huge strides in their population. Coons and coyotes used to be hunted for their pelts. PETA, and their anti-fur campaigns have all but stopped the fur trade. I've seen it said that there are over a million coon pelts in cold storage, waiting for the price of pelts to rise. Not many people are hunting them or trapping them. Coon populations have exploded. More coons equals less turkeys. I have taken 35 coons off of 17 acres in three years. I can't see that I've even made a dent in their population. I trap coons so that I can eat more wild turkeys. We need more predator hunters and trappers. IMHO

      Raccoons as well as opossums are a decent predator of wild turkey and quail nesting aread. Not to mention the chickens they kill. Traps are relatively humane as well. The trap does not hurt them. Yes they are heavily confused and scared but they are only restrained. Not hurt

      @@furcoatssuck3143 its not about collecting fur, its about pest control. Would you let bed bugs infest your home because you would feel too bad exterminating them? Or how about mice, who's droppings can carry the hantavirus? Raccoons are gorgeous creatures, but they are destructive and will kill chickens, geese, ducks, they will eat the koi fish out of your pond or stock tank, they are potential rabies vectors, and they carry roundworm which can be dangerous to adults, children, and pets. So putting a potentially dangerous animals well being over your livestock, pets and children's well being is actually quite neglectful. I have never taken fur, I just don't want them going through my bins and destroying the garden I worked so hard on. Make sense? I pity every raccoon that I put down, but I value my property more.
