@KYLE RITTENHOUSE - COMMUNIST EXTERMINATOR I would say the Cleese quote is the perfect place to use it. This is not deep thought, it is blatant common sense. You do not need extreme intellect or insight, to see the wisdom in the cleese quote (or paraphrase). That is the beauty of a real insightful quote, is that the wisdom is unavoidable. Cleese has a whole range of more subtle humour, but this is not it. It is sledge hammer bluntness.

I am 65 and 50 years ago, my mother was working as a researcher on studies for the Forestry Service. The government was doing research on how pollution was affecting wildlife. It was reported that there are a lot of endocrine disruptors in our environment which can harm endocrine systems of life on this planet. Endocrine disruptors like lead, mercury, plastics ( source of much pcbs) and the contamination of water with various drugs include birth control hormones. At the time my mom ( keep in mind this was 50 yrs ago), told me that water pollution had a link to newborns becoming homosexual. I at the time was dealing with a boy I had a crush on coming out of the closet and telling me he was gay. I think my mom was trying to comfort me, in a weird way. So, I said are you saying Patrick had no choice? Should I let him know that? Which she said oh no, forget I said anything! It is part of a government study and I really shouldn't have said anything. I think this was about the time homosexual behavior in Ibis in Florida were link to mercury poisoning. There is now a deformity in many fish species that are not normally Hermaphrodite, called intersex disorder caused by water pollution. Fish like the smallmouth bass, are growing eggs in their testes. This makes most sterile, and is causing a sharp decline in the smallmouth bass population. So, men and women not having a sex drive, less testosterone and progesterone? Maybe we are all becoming gender-less. Asexuality on the rise? One person I know that claims to be asexual, says no one turns her on. She has no desire for sex. She had relationships in the past, and said that she realized she rather just be alone.

As far as asexuality goes, it's probably worth mentioning that for a long time asexuals were being mislabeled as bisexuals in research because if the Kinsey scale wasn't used, both bisexuals and asexuals could fall under the description of "little/no preference" or "equal attraction to both sexes" (even if that attraction was basically 0) so now it's likely being reported more accurately. Also better sex ed helps, if people know that most people feel attraction and pleasure, and aren't thinking about it in terms of "purity" or "sin" orwhatever else, then they might be more prompted to seek an explanation when they don't feel those things.

There are plenty of women these days who seem to have a constant chip on their shoulders towards men in general. I was admonished for holding a door open for a lady (as I always do) when she quipped "I can open my own door" and then got even more upset when I replied "yes ma'am". As if somehow I was implying that she wasn't able to open a door, being a woman and all. I didn't respond after her outburst, instead just let her continue living a miserable life.
But this is becoming more and more common, as masculinity in general seems to have been lumped in with the toxic side. There are still things in our DNA as men that we do better than women, and vice versa. Recognition and respect from both sides is the key, and I'm not sure we are heading in that direction as a society.

His wife and children left and rather than playing poppa he’s stayed behind in a warzone to fight or die. A war leader is someone involved in war are you saying war and violence are associated manliness? Women are fleeing because they don’t want to fight. Women are not physically built to compete with men. Wtf is manliness? Being a man is being willing to stare death in the face, suppress your emotions, grab your pair, and face it head on with no fear. Toxicity isn’t a thing, it’s completely subjective and it’s that rhetoric of wanting to pass on your duty, your job to women that is what’s turning us into a society of useless men.

The Ukrainian people have a strong sense of pride and will fight their occupiers no matter their gender. Some have no choice but to leave with their children but they don’t feel good about it. Most women who are fleeing are not doing so bc they don’t want to flight but bc the have an obligation to keep their children safe. Courage and determination is present in every Ukrainian. BUT we (women, men, people, the world) need a MEN'S revolution of sorts to. What's needed isn't to neuter men or make men and women the same or make women dominant, but to understand the differences, make equality of opportunity but not eliminate merit, and have and do what we all need to thrive.
We need "strong" independent women AND men. Why would it be any other way? Steven Covey says the goal in relationships isn't codependency it's interdependence and to have that, both people need to be independent (independent so you can be interdependent).

@@gayeenglund1907 Yeah, that's also true. What a society values shows up in how its kids are raised educated and socialized. People ARE responsible for their own actions and behaviors BUT they can and do internalize the values of the societies they grow up in too. And if those values are wrong and harmful, they are only corrected to the degree and when the individuals who grew up with them are able to gain self awareness and deliberately choose and change otherwise.
An example of this is my growing up in a well meaning but authoritarian, sexist, slightly mysoginist household. After becoming an adult it took me years to realize and correct the compliant, unassertive, people pleasing doormat I was raised to be. - Because society had raised my parents to think women and girls should be so that they raised me that way in the first place and thought they were doing the right thing.
This is seen in homosexuals too. People were raised in the 20th century in a society that didn't understand human sexuality and where homosexuality fit into that. It was seen as a mental disorder, sin, even a crime (and still is in many societies - I think it's still illegal in 10 countries including Russia oddly enough).
Even in America to this day homosexuals can struggle with overcoming self loathing they've grown up internalizing from their families, church, and culture's attitudes and beliefs about homosexuality. Families and communities and certainly some churches STILL exist that cast out any member that comes out as gay. I mean there are STILL closed gays cuz they don't want to bear the price coming out will cost them. And there are people who come out in their old age after living a lie their lives at their own cost and suffering (and often their straight spouse's and kids' suffering too).
I'm not here to wave the pride flag (though there's nothing wrong with that) I'm just using the personal and individual struggles with recognizizing homosexuality as perfectly okay as a very good example of the problems AND INFLUENCE that cultural and societal values can have on children and people / society in general.

Boys wanting to be more like girls because girls are now the epitome of goodness. Masculinity is not toxic in of itself. Masculinity is what makes men be brave, to protect those they love with their lives, to be strong for the weak. Gentlemen are balanced men plus they are compassionate, discipline, and responsible. They are well-mannered and they show empathy for boys, girls, men, & women. They are like father figures plus they protect children both boys & girls from indoctrination, they respect disabled people, they aid elderly people, they listen to men with their emotional pain, and they are polite towards women by respecting their privacy.

Bill was very correct when he said that today guys asking a girl out is seen as aggressive. I have seen several posts on social media lately of girls asking for advice. It was different people with the same question. Seems a young man asked a girl out on 2 different occasions. The girl said no twice, then asked if she should report the guy to the police for sexual assault. I asked if the males had put their hands on them at any point or said anything offensive. Both said no. I then told them that the guys didn't do anything wrong, they just simply expressed an interest in taking them out. Well...the responses I got from lots of people made it seem as if I had just told the gals to lay back and enjoy it. Total, absolute insanity. So, watch it guys...not sure how you're supposed to ask someone on a date anymore. This has turned into a very bizarre world.

@Deborah King, yup and this is exactly why men and women aren't having as much sex. Men are afraid (not of women) but of being accused of rape, sexual harassment, or some other type of abuse simply for expressing their attraction or mere interest.
And yes, I understand that cat-calling and other such behavior can be problematic (although some women actually enjoy cat-calling if done a certain way) but merely asking a woman out or even just voicing how attractive we think she is, in my opinion, is not wrong in any way. All she has to do is say she's not interested and that's it, both parties move on.
It's like people today have forgotten that we are, at the most basic level, biological beings. And biological beings have instincts, including the instinct to engage in sex. But it turns out that we are now trying to criminalize this instinct. It's really a sad thing.

But even so, rejection is inevitable in such encounters, and even if done right it can be uncomfortable for both parties. I guess that some people take that inevitable discomfort as something that should be avoided and therefore labels it as harassment even though it's not.

You can't assume that somebody suddenly wants to be the object of attention especially if you're just walking to the shop or something. So I understand the negativity around this.
But I remember meeting a Colombian lady some years ago in Germany. She was amazed that the German guys didn't flirt with her in public - in Colombia, that was apparently the norm, and she actually enjoyed it. In Germany, you keep your distance, at least in public.
