The fact they are both in the Hunger Game universe is even better now!!!!!
Such a full circle moment
the fact that they knew and probably were talking about things behind the scenes
Awesomeness! 😊😆👍👊✊🍁
Lame 2, beter promo in NYC
I din know!😮😅
I feel so emotional watching this. Viola said “What am I supposed to do with me? What am I supposed to do with my blackness, my deep voice, my wide nose? I have to believe that me, myself is a canvas in which I have to start my work…” That speaks to me so strongly. We have to see ourselves, in all of our uniqueness, as the canvas in which we have to work, and not force ourselves to conform to society’s idea of the what neutrality or standardization looks like. Art can be created from any starting point.
that gave me goosebumps omg so powerful
Amazing
I was looking for this in the comments section because I didn't realize how technical Juliard could get. Juliard is basically America's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. But she's right, when you're soooo focused on the technical aspects and forget the person who's going to act those scenes, audiences will see right through it. It was so fun to see a "classically trained" actress actually giving us the tea of that school. What a refreshing take, instead of the usual "yes i went to a prestigious drama school" answer.
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Beautiful comment. Thank you ❤
When Jennifer opened up about not always feeling articulate because of her lack of education, I love that she countered Viola's reassurance with "And you are very beautiful" because whilst Viola was talking, I felt saddened that she, an absolute legend, feels she does not belong in the business because she doesn't fit the shallow box. Viola is such an inspiration to me. I'm thoroughly enjoying this conversation. They are both extremely talented women!!
I didn't know she dropped out in middle school
That part of the convo made me cry
@@seanteezee I just started reading her memoir and I’m starting to understand now where this narrative came from
It broke my heart hearing Viola say she isn't beautiful enough when I see her as so gorgeous.
Man this got me crying
Every time Ms. Davis talks it's a Master Class.
Period.
She's such a wonderful, wonderful actress. I can't imagine her projects being cast without her.
So well said needed to be said👏👏👏👏👏
I couldn't have said it better! Love her!
1000%
This was a therapy session for Jenn and us I believe. Viola is just something else
Amen 🙏🏽🤍
I was just thinking the same thing 😂
Seeing Jen's face she's learning in every wisdom of Viola😊 she even got emotional😊
Dumb? nodding enthusiastically to that drivel? As an older, more mature, wiser woman, she should have been correcting and educating her. Nope. Nodding and agreeing
You're soooooo on point. And honestly the incredible Viola Davis talking to her the way she did warmed my heart and it was absolutely received. It was beautiful
Wasn't planning on watching the whole thing in one sitting... but I couldn't stop. The time just flew by. Viola Davis is... everything. Her words, her strength, hear realness, wisdom, and firmness. Jennifer Lawrence was lovely, and it was refreshing to see her just taking Viola Davis in and, as a viewer, experience her as more than who she has presented herself in the past years in interviews (funny, goofy, relatable, light-hearted). She is growing and deepening herself as she has grown, as well as through her marriage and being a new mother... and it's beautiful to witness.
Couldn’t have said it better! 👏💜
on everything i was just rey say i can listen to viola talk all day. idk her words and wisdom keep you so interested and reeled into the conversation. i agree w u 100%
that was exactly me I planned to kill time I watched the whole thing and it felt like a minute
absolutely enjoyed it
Da
What a REAL Actors on Actors this was! I LOVE how there wasn't any hiding or fakeness! Viola set the tone and got so vulnerable, and Jennifer met her there. Would love to see more conversations like this on this channel, so impactful and authentic WOW! @variety
No fakeness? Jennifer said she was the 1st female action hero in a movie lol she's delusional
@@richcampbell6808 i don't think she got her message across the way she wanted. she's not dumb she knows she's not the first
@@iverbronx She's kinda dumb . 😳
@@richcampbell6808 I definitely think she misspoke. It definitely wasn't the first female action movie, however it was the first female led action Franchise in a bit. I think "Charlie's Angels" which was 2003 was the last female led Action Franchise. And they're separated by like 10 years.
@@charlieflickinger7372 In abit? Nice try. She's clueless and full of herself
I think it’s so thought provoking that Viola is someone who hasn’t been deemed the ideal “beauty” from a societal perspective, & Jennifer has. Yet they have experienced similar traumas. It goes to show that superficial acceptance has no weight & can be detrimental whether you are on the “positive” or negative end of the spectrum. They both have so much depth. This was amazing.
beautifully put.
Wow🤯💯
This conversation has just done more for me than months in therapy. I cannot express enough how grateful I am for this raw sincerity.
Jennifer is garbage . Far from the first female action hero. DELUSIONAL
This conversation gave me a deeper view of how soulful, open, insightful, reflective and wise Viola is. Also, she doesnt just speak, she also listens. The world need more people like Viola.
I love so much how Viola complemented Jennifer in the very beginning. She made her feel comfortable. You can tell that meant a lot to Jen. Lawrence really is a fantastic actress and she has made such an impact on the industry. I agree with Viola, they are a similar type of actress. They both bring insane life and it’s hard to find an such deep actors brings so much of themselves to their roles, and I have so much respect for these women. Viola is just an incredible, incredible force and leader for so many people in the industry and Jen is fantastically talented, funny, charismatic, and this interview was perfect. ❤
Yes because Jennifer in winter's bone....prove that
Miss Viola Davis is truly 1/1. There will never be another Viola Davis. Her perspective and ability to succinctly detail & break down layered topics is truly astonishing and a gift
❤❤❤❤❤❤ the smartest and concise comment 😊
I feel compassion for Jen cause she has been hurt emotionally. She came up so fast in the beginning that she felt being avoided for a new movie. I felt like she was standing alone trying to come back .Jen doesn’t cry easy but in this talk show with Viola she was holding it back.Grab hold Jen you can’t lose. Have f with in yourself. I do!!
You are an amazing person to be able to notice that. I was looking for this type of comment, have a blessed day ❤️
Fax I feel bad for her and some actors that go through all that hate from the internet like they're not just normal people too, people oughta learn to keep their negativity to themselves real sht. Cant wait for her comeback and her new movie🙏she should just minimize the amount of time she's on interviews and the media and stay away from the internet if it makes her feel like she needs to put on a certain persona.
Me too, I can't help it when she shared the story about the press. I seen a lot of negative news about her and it breaks my heart because most of the news are fraud. I just dont understand why ppl want to do dirty to her while she's such a good human being that i want to have a convo with one day if i could
It's so nice to see such a supportive comment. People on the Internet just love to give Jen a tough time, so it's refreshing seeing such a positive comment.
tears are running down my face as I watch this. such open hearts. the compassion they have for each other drives right into me.
Viola Davis is a phenomenal story teller and has so much wisdom. Both her and Jennifer Lawrence were very authentic and a surprisingly perfect match!!
These two were such a delight. I need a podcast series from each of these ladies 💝
I thought the very same.
Tears came up for me as Viola talked about the pencil in the mouth and the holding of her rib cage to make sure her breathing was proper and then the progression into her features and the HER of it all and who she is and was in the face studying and performing Eurocentric work #whitecharacters
This interview is phenomenal and still very triumphant!
what a brilliant moment in time. This concept for a show is brilliant. Can you imagine the power houses of the 30's 40's etc having a convo?
Betty Davis and Kathrine Hepburn. I can't even imagine. It will be chaotic.
Amen
@@lifePaultheball Probably wouldn't happen anyway because Hepburn is notoriously uninterested in those. Actually, Davis and Hepburn were both invited for a magazine cover/issue but Katherine, as she always, does refused.
Lana Turner and Judy Garland would be a good one. Especially considering their history. Elizabeth Taylor and Shirley MacLaine since they were besties. Marilyn Monroe and Jane Mansfield. Claudette Colbert and Norma Shearer.
I absolutely loved listening to Viola Davis, especially on how the process on set matters more than the business side of their industry. You can tell she's so passionate about what she does. So inspiring.
I loved her in The Woman King, she's excellent for the role, a hard bitten General who has seen her fellow soldiers, who she trained and lead for years, die at her side. And then recruited more warriors, for the good of the country.
This was such a great talk, I cried through a lot of it. Viola saying that she doesn’t have the draw to get people to see her movie (she said it way better) is baffling to me. Viola Davis being in something is a stand alone reason I’d watch something. I love both actresses so much. I always have enjoyed Jennifer’s interviews she’s just very funny and seems real not just doing a talking point.
What Viola Davis said about the 'prostitute' concept is so incredibly true. That's why I hope she gets the strength to write and direct her own movies. The upsetting thing about the capitalization on beauty & 'the look' in Hollywood is how that can take the soul away from artistry in many ways. It has held women back a lot in terms of allowing three dimensions to be shown, and allowing the good bad and the ugly to be expressed. Movies can change people's mindsets and I can't wait to see more roles where women are able to express everything that they are, even when they aren't physically appealing in a role. It doesn't have to be as drastic as 'Monster'. It just has to show the truth which is so rarely expressed in full - but Viola very well must be aware of the impact she's made on that very thing. The way she cried in Fences proves that. That scene was a revolutionary moment for women actors. Jennifer Aniston actually did that in 'Cake' and it changed how I saw her as an actress but in interviews people just questioned why she didn't look perfect in the role. We need to celebrate when female actors choose to take on roles that express their full humanity more. It will change a lot for us.
These two can play the most diverse and dynamic characters. Two of my favorites
Viola no. Seen her in comedy? No. Romantic comedy? No
I could listen to Viola speaking for hours and hours nonstop… such a wise, amazing, beautiful human being. Also loved to see Jennifer and specially her vulnerability in this, you could see it was therapeutical to her
Viola Davis is just from another planet or I don't know, but how could a human be this respectful, wise, chill, real? No bullshitting, just being kind and smart.
Not to mention her voice.
And Jennifer...so happy that she talked about her anxiety experience, it's so refreshing to hear about real life experiences, how could the press not appreciate it and turn it to something comical?
“You’re highly articulate.” “Thank you, and you’re very beautiful.” That was magic ❤️✨
27:50
I feel bad that this video is remembered for one part Jennifer said, when later in this interview she said she knows she often gets torn apart for things she doesn't say right in the moment. A lot of people coming to this interview in bad faith instead of listening to the actual conversation they had.
I believe her on the part that she doesn't mean that way. But Viola Davis confirmed it right after without a doubt, and even if you are bad at interviews you can think before you talk. That's no excuse for spreading wrong information. At best she is terrible at wording her opinion.
Wait I’m just about to start watching this and have no idea what you’re talking about? Lmao. I guess I’ll find out soon
@@studsmanor she said she's the first female action movie lead
@@WATCHMYCLIPSZ thank you. Lolol I did notice her say that and I was like uhhh
If you listen she literally says she was the first woman lead in an action film, no one had ever done that before lol
I loved Jennifer Lawrence in Alien and Terminator. Such a great action star, there is no other woman like her.
She also did great in Charlie's Angel's playing 3 different girls at the same time 😂😂 and let's not forget the time she also came back from a coma in Kill Bill and killed everyone 😂😂
And Wonder Woman ,,,!
Stunning and brave
She also starred in GI Jane and played a traditionally male role as a woman. She broke so many barriers with that one and looked great with a shaved head.
When does she said it?
Two of my favorite actresses having such an honest, open, and considerate conversation makes me love them even more. They're both creating such a safe space for expressing their pains or struggles. Didn't expect to watch the whole thing but they definitely sucked me in!
Viola takes us all to church and is so inspiring. She thinks "I have no reason for desirability" but she is one of our greatest contemporary actors. Miss Davis, you are nothing but desirability.
I don't care how people misinterpret anything Jennifer Lawerence says in an interview. She is a phenomenal actress. The variation in her characters and the stories she tells is a deep and wide chasm. Viola Davis is such a calming force and is so talented, articulate. The characters she portrays are grounded. There is always just a deeper story than the one you think you are watching. The skill that it takes to empathize with a character or a story. The depth of understanding, the psychology behind the thought process, as a person standing outside looking in you can't grasp it. But they do...they take months, sometimes years to understand a character and to tell their story and give it justice. But we just look at the finished product and judge. As an audience member, I appreciate what they do and what they give...
misinterpret? ha haa haaa
There's no misinterpretation lol. She's saying what she's saying. It's you guys who are twisting it.
The part where Jennifer Lawrence said she was the first woman on the moon. Now that moved me to tears and inspiration.
IT WAS URANUS
So strong, so brave, so independent 😂
LOOOL
@@russmayos3694 saying things like that is considered patronizing today. It's like saying a black man is intelligent and well spoken
Did you watch the whole conversation?
This goes so beyond a conversation about acting... watching this was better than any therapy session I have ever had.
It's the reaffirming of both of their insecurities for me. One says you're highly articulate and the other says you're very beautiful. It's amazing to watch, just beautiful.
Its also how women shade each other, "youre highly articulate" means for a black person, it also means youre not attractive enough for that compliment. Saying "Youre very beautiful" to an actress undermines her talent.
@@JankoMW Not when they're a direct response to someone expressing that insecurity. They become backhanded when they are unwarranted in my opinion and experience.
I remember the first time I watched Kill Bill. I was just in awe of how bad ass the female lead was in this. I'm telling you I don't think anyone could have played the Bride as well as Jennifer Lawrence did. She was amazing.
Kenneth, that was Uma Thurman.

I’ve started binging these and Viola is in a lot of them. My first thought was, “isn’t that a little excessive?” but no. She’s so insightful and gives so much backstory behind her journey as an actress.
I watched this one and her one with Samuel Jackson yesterday. I can’t get enough of her! #NeverTooMuch ♥️🫶🏾
each one is such a gem! the one with tom hanks is truly a masterclass from both parties
I could've listened to these two women talk for another 3 hours. They're both so insightful and articulate while also being so humble, funny, and empathetic to each other. Truly so fulfilling to watch.
Viola’s honesty is so beautiful and refreshing. She makes my heart sing!!!
jen and viola were both so raw and vulnerable in this interview i actually shed a tear watching this
I swear you can tell there is so much love and respect between them.
The way they speak is soul touching....brought tears to my eyes
When Jennifer didn’t hesitate FOR A SECOND to respond with “and you’re beautiful” when Viola told her she was articulate…😭😭😭
So jennifer has done a couple of these. She's always been honest and herself. This time however, she's OK with being vulnerable. Motherhood can be such a miraculous thing. I think she's truly happy. How wonderful x
I only just finished Viola’s book & realizing her translate everything in real time, just as a person, is phenomenal to see. Jennifer holds her own well, as a woman in the same field but of a totally different world than Viola. They stood well together ❣️ #doubtless
Funny that months after this conversation, Viola did become an EGOT. These to women have one of the most honest, truthful, funny, witty conversation I have seen in a very long time. Blesses to both of them 🙂
This conversation was so special, it’s one of the few actors on actors I’ve watched that I felt really transcended the camera/set and turned into a real toss of passion back and forth. So warm
The growth Jennifer Lawrence has had. She has matured so much and it's such a wonderful sight to see
Viola Davis is unbelievable, she is so wise and insightful. Jennifer has always been cut down to a soundbite or a meme, I love hearing her talk at length about her craft.
This conversation was so healing to me.
Wow, my jaw drops every time I listen to Viola. There's always so much wisdom in her words.
as a younger actor starting my career, this is everything. to be able to see that these amazing, intelligent, talented women i look up to also go through normal, human struggles and have their anxieties... i love how raw, honest, and articulate (yes, jennifer) they were in this interview. such an inspiration.
Loved this! Two very real actors. The way they talked about how we can’t connect to others because we can’t connect to ourselves…just wow.
"Nobody had ever put a woman in the lead of an action movie." Ah yes, very real just outright lying and taking credit for movies that came out before she was even born. How real of her.
Viola is a wildly talented & complete actor - she is always in the moment of every scene I've ever seen her in. Kudos.
Woman King deserves everything!! So glad Jennifer praised it. Jennifer is so talented and has done great work 👏🏾 Viola is a force and a great example for all women 💜
The movie that praised a tribe of women who enslaved their brothers and sisters?
How sick must you be to think that misinformation of slavery is a good thing.. Dear lord.
Except it's completely historically inaccurate and praise the very tribe that sold other African into slavery...
@@condorb7756 It is not inaccurate. This white supremacist narrative is tired, just shut up.
There was something so quiet and sacred happening between their energies. It was lovely to watch.
Viola is such an epic storyteller haha
The King Queen🤡
If she was white she'll get 80% less recognition.
YAAAASSS QWEEUEN EMOJI hehe
She is a racist as well
Viola mentions how society and the industry sees her as “non classically beautiful” and Lawrence did the EXACT thing Charlize Theron did in an interview with Viola 10 years ago. She immediately tells her how she thinks she is beautiful and to “not listen to them” as if she’s talking to an insecure teen 😅. At least this time, Davis explained that she was speaking from an observational viewpoint.
Yeah because IT'S f-king UGLY!
Thank you for flagging that because that was annoying
Yup, that was a bit awkward :D
Jennifer and Charlize are clearly too arrogant to even realise the point that Viola was making. It's almost hilarious.
I'm sure Jennifer's intentions were good! When someone seems to put themselves down we all have the urge to try to build them up. Viola did a great job of bringing it back up in conversation and clarifying that it isnt as simple as recognising your own beauty, but educated her on the trauma and mental battle she struggles with. The conversation was an exchange of lessons and perspectives. It's a positive thing!
“Negotiation of images of what we think a character is” hits crazy! This is so true and often times why I feel so many people stick to the theatre.. hopefully the film/tv industry and commitment to artistry continues to change and make honest progress.
Honestly at it's fullest, thank you Viola and Jennifer.
Having watched the whole interview I find it really odd that the comment section is so focused on one section of the interview where Jennifer made a wrong statement when the full conversation is so enriching and full of life. These two women were vulnerable, kind, showed a deep interest in one another, listened to one another and even shared such profound truths. It’s a great conversation, we’re too obsessed with catching people out and ‘gotcha’ moments that we lose out on the really good stuff.
Jlaw is full of herself and have zero self awareness...she shouldnt even be in the same room as viola
I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who enjoy and appreciate the good part of this conversation and there will be those who point out a statement mistake that J-law made because it is also crucial. That's the reality of being in public and the consequences of her bold statement.
bc ppl care WAY too much lol was it a complete incorrect statement? absolutely. Do i act like i know her? nope. Ppl LOVE to be so critical of everyone else BUT themselves. We're all hypocrites to a point and we all make incorrect statements sometimes. Ppl should probably care more about the ppl they elect into office instead of freaking out over something Jen said. Sorry, just have been reading negative after negative comment and im just tired of it. But hey, to each their own right?🤷♀️✌🏻
Was the enrichment part of the conversation something like a 32 year old multi millionaire living in the lap of luxury is oppressed. But that male trucker, whose shipping stuff for Jennifer to buy, wearing a Trump hat, living paycheck to paycheck is the real monster we need to get rid of.
I’m so glad you pointed this out. Viola articulated so many profound truths about being a working artist, like when she asked Jennifer about how she makes people feel “less alone” with her performances, but here we are; focusing on an out of touch statement that was probably just an understandable miscommunication. This conversation is one worth listening to from start to finish.
The best and most interesting part of this interview is when Viola and Jennifer both shared insecurities (beauty and intellect) with one another and comforted one another. These two seemingly opposite actresses were able to connect with each other in that moment. I'm sad to see this comment section has dissolved into a bandwagon of people mocking Jennifer for saying something that i doubt she meant to come across in the way that it did.
"Bandwagon" Oh the irony
totally agree with you, they are such fascinating women and actors!
Exactly. This was such an insightful interview, but people only want to focus on an obviously hyperbolic statement of Jlaw. It is also exactly what she mentions at the beginning of the interview, how nothing can be said without the audience taking things out of context.
@@IKnowButILoveYou You’re incorrect. Taken IN context, Jennifer Lawrence said she was the “first” when she factually and clearly and evidentially is not even close to the “first” female action star. Nobody is taking anything out of context except those that are defending such a ridiculously untrue statement. And JLaw is taking heat for saying something false, just like anyone else. She doesn’t get special privileges because she’s famous.
@@cheetahinireland18 Oh pish posh. She clearly misspoke while talking about how people used to talk about female action stars and those stereotypes, and thinking back to how they were still saying those things when she did Hunger Games. Heck, people still said that stuff about why Black Widow wasn't getting her own film for years. She obviously, and I mean eye-bleedingly blindingly overwhelmingly cream-pie-to-the-face obviously, knows there's other female led action films. Pretending otherwise is just derpy disingenuity.
Then as icing on that cake, she then goes on to talk about her anxieties relating to not articulating herself well in interviews, and fears about saying things that'll make her sound stupid because of insecurities about her intellect. So if we're going to talk about context, that makes the pile-on of smug “hon hon hon”, from people who've never misspoken once in their entire lives quite shitty. Just comes across as insecure desperation. So well done, you caught her out. Just as well she didn't respond "You too" to a waiter saying "Enjoy your food" or you'd have roasted her alive.
I would listen to Viola talk for hours on end. That woman is always so amazing and I hang on to every one of her words.
Queen Viola tearing down the classical training oppression and its canon with her wonderful approach to acting and tbh her existence. a legend

Also, can everyone just chill and give Jennifer a break? This is what she was talking about interviews and how things don't come out the way she meant it...
I see what she was trying to say women rarely ever are lead of action movies especially one as big as Hunger Games which is also a franchise.

I love these two women. The conversation and support is just great. Favorite duo so far 💞
I'm so proud that she is the first female actress ever. What a hero!
So “stunning and brave”…….
NNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@@ap0ll0524 bro go home
@@ap0ll0524 Ah look, the same troll in every comment responding back trying to incite something by defending this utter out of touch nonsense being spewed. Much bait very wow.
My goodness I just want to cry in the best way possible. Viola Davis, so vulnerable , so astoundingly intelligent, I mean every word that came out of her mouth was so seasoned with depth and class. And Jennifer, she’s always been one of my favorites, and I loved seeing this side of her, and her generosity of being vulnerable in this interview, just, wonderful. I watched every bit of this video.
This was the most interesting, articulate, intelligent, vulnerable, conversation I have ever had the privilege to overhear. I feel a bit like I was eavesdropping on a truly heartfelt therapy session. Both these women deserve the highest praise for showcasing their humanness for all to embrace for themselves. It'll never be better than this! ❤❤❤
