My husband and I are 13 years apart. I’d love more videos on this.

Couldn’t watch you because of my vertigo. Just listened.

Interesting content. Walking outside is a good change, but too much movement made it hard to watch at points. Might be wise to limit the camera movement.

Thanks Allison, my stabilizer wasn’t charged. I’ll be ready with it next time 😀

Love the content. My spouse is 10 years older but I have the bigger pension. Both of us are military. Not a fan of videos where people walk around unless they have a really high end camera with stabilizing tech. I had to do other things and not look at the screen as it messes with my vertigo.

I completely agree. It was an impulsive decision to take a walk and talk and my stabilizer wasn't charged.

What happens if my husband started pulling social security but i have bot retired yet and he passes away? Ive tried to understand survivors benefits but it doesnt really discuss this very well

Hi, it depends on whose SS benefit is higher and if you are still working. The fidelity website (and prob tons of others) have good info but it’s best to talk to a financial advisor.

I am 10 years older than my wife, am 55 with a federal pension. So rare to find a video that matches my situation. I hear you on why emotionally it is best to somehow synchronize retirement ( am still working in post-retirement job and wife wants me to keep working regardless of finances)but is there not a financial benefit for NOT synchronizing? I can get pension and TSP/401k disbursements and begin to transition to retired-life levels of expenditure while still having the safety net of spouse’s income. Is that not an advantage?

Hi Den, I think the main problem with significant age difference at retirement is not the money side unless of course there is none then that could be an issue. The main concern is the dynamic that one has a considerable amount of leisure time while the other could be slaving away at a job they dislike. That may create resentments and jealousy. I think it’s best as in your case to stay active, engaged while your spouse catches up to you.

Thanks for the response. My spouse needs to keep working in order to be fully vested as partner in her small firm. The jealousy and resentment is definitely there, as you warn, but it is on MY side as the older spouse who wants to enjoy whatever quality time I have as a retiree. I suppose this is more of a marriage counseling issue than financial advisor one, but again wondering if there is an economic argument in favor of non-synchronized retirement. I should add that my wife has my federal health coverage for life, so that is not a factor.
