About 300:
In this ferocious retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae based on the epic graphic novel by Sin City creator Frank Miller, King Xerxes of Persia (Rodrigo Santoro) amasses an army of hundreds of thousands, drawn from Asia and Africa, to invade and conquer the tiny, divided nation of Greece in 481 B.C. But when the advancing Persian forces enter the treacherous mountain pass of Thermopylae, they encounter Spartan King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and his royal guard of soldiers numbering just 300. According to legend, their valor and sacrifice inspired all of Greece to unite against the Persian foe, planting the seeds of democracy and ushering in the Golden Age of Greece. With nonstop action and awe-inspiring visual effects, director Zack Snyder creates a breathtaking vision of one of history's most legendary battles ... and an epic tale of sacrifice and heroism.

“Spartans! What is your profession?” is the coolest part of the movie.

Batman V Superman Dawn Of Justice.
Which is one of the MANY reasons why Zack Snyder is my favorite director .

Crazy how they made fun of gerald butler when he initially shouted at the messenger before kicking him. Its one of the most iconic moments in movie history now
His name is Gerard Butler, not Gerald Butler.
@@glitch3818 small glitch, will be stamped out in the next update
Gerard Butler is the legendary Leonidas and the Phantom of the Opera.
Well it does sound like he shouts “this is Glasgow”
@@sharky8534 but he makes Glasgow sound so coooooool
The part where he hypes his troops up right before their battle where he states: This is where we hold them. This is where we fight! This is where they die! Remember this day men, for it will be yours for all time. I love that speech.
n as he said it is remembered , that day for all time
What we do in life, echoes in eternity!

You know what's there, waiting beyond that gate? Immortality, take it, it's yours!!!
One of my favourite part of the movie.
"Madness? THIS IS SPARTA!" never gets old, infact i still get hyped and follow along the lines whenever i hear that
I love how he looked to his queen for agreement before he killed the messenger.
She was the most Spartan of anyone - total badass
IFKR!! honestly to me, that was MORE iconic than the "THIS IS SPARTAAAA" scream because this is the most powerful and feared man in all of Greece, yet he looks for his wife's approval to make sure that he's not letting emotions cloud his actions. And Lena's proud look of approval like "don't worry, you're doing the right thing." Just a brief second but speaks volumes 🔥
Cuz you have to when you're married even if you're a king 😂
I didn’t like that in the slightest
He didn't need no queen agreement
Just the line 'This is Sparta!'
I did 200 pushups non stop ~
Can you imagine watching this scene daily?
Can you be brave and hold the line?
You become a Spartan in the end!
Man that's such a cool statement
The part near the end where Leonidas addresses Ephialtes and tells him "you there, may you live forever", after which Ephialtes can no longer look him in the eye (plus the range of expression and emotions he shows in those few seconds) is a very underrated moment in this movie for me.
On point..this top 10 list isnt solid enough for me
It's a disrespect to a Soldier or at least it used to be.
@@phillip_iv_planetking6354 not just that, it's a declaration that he will live long and regret his dishonorable decision.
Ephialtes is the modern Greek word for nightmare. Live he did.
That's why in greek his name translated as a nightmare. It was a prophetic statement, his name Ephialtes comes to this day the same meaning bad dream or nightmare. The movie has many true statements.
The more the time passes the more we appreciate Zach Snyder movies
"Watchmen" was ahead of time, one of the best superhero movies ever made
not all. but he gets were credit is due
Ya dig.
Watchmen, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and now Zack Snyder's Justice League: Yup I have never been ashamed to like all of them before and glad to see others joining in the same
...it keeps getting better,
Has to be one of the most badass movies of all time!
Makes it more badass considering it's based on a real battle. And many quotes on the film are actually real quotes said at the time...
its best movie in the history
Agreed!
I love how thick Gerald’s Scottish Accent is when he speaks during the “this is SPARTA” scene 👌👍
I thought it was just me who noticed that haha
I still vividly remember watching 300 on its premiere night, packed theatre of over 300 people, the atmosphere and electricity was epic.
Still one of the best theatre movies ever
Still to this day an underrated movie.
what? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 :|
If this movie is underrated, why do we have Spartan Race, spartan workout, spartan documentary, etc.
@@amir9715 It can be called underrated cuz people think this movie only contains violence and has no character development at all. It did not even get any nomination in oscar or bafta for its cinematography and won very few awards. Whereas this movie is wonderful it has as much character developments as necessary (we get to know about characters during fight too) and also many emotional scenes.
@@danbryanaquino4588 This movie was received negatively when it was released. Maybe because a lot of people judged before watching and not realizing that this was based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller instead of the actual history. When I first watched it in 2007, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's like an artwork came to life.

Absolutely classic!

Wish they had shown the entirety of Leonides' break from the formation. That shield bash is by far my favorite moment in the movie, probably top of my list for moments in any movie, honestly
The scene gives me chills... men don't come in such packages anymore!!
Snyder fans always fight in the shade. Brilliant director.
"Slaughtering all those men has left a nasty cramp in my leg. So kneeling will be hard."

300 and Sin City are straight up 🔥
The way he looks for his woman's approval before crossing the Rubicon. Iconic.
I like the line "Judging by what we have seen I would march them up against you" Leonidas is speaking of women and children going against Xeres army.
They we're actually just talking about Women.

I swear people just don't understand Zack's films, and that's ok. A lot of the themes he puts in his films really fly over people's heads. But I feel like he's one of the few directors that don't deserve the amount of hate he gets. People love jumping on the hate bandwagon like they can do any better.
Exaclty. But the hate he gets is not okay.
I love him !!! Martha said to Clark: People hate what they cant understand
You exactly... Said the right words... I've realised this myself...
He should throw those idiots down that pit. He's awesome
Yes
Every great director his own style
For example - Nolen movies was story and scientific heavy and confusing and hans zimmer music was cherry on top
And zack Snyder use yellowish and darkish tone and using slo mo very frequently which is treat to watch especially in fight scenes
James gunn use vibrant and colourful tone
And ramy camerawork is on another lvl and zoom effects
And James Cameron also uses bit yellowish and vibrant
Ooh, I LOVE the way he throws the spear so hard it kills the target AND THE GUY NEXT TO HIM who is three feet from the projectile. Epic!
As a proud Greek, and knowing about Leonidas and his 300 Spartans when I was a kid from my grandparents and my parents. This movie made me so proud of my heritage and I already was, liberties were taken in the movie but the history of what happened is real at Thermopylae! I could watch this movie 10 times and still cry because of how deep I feel about my heritage
Manly af
Yeah like it took liberties historically but after I watched it I went back to look at the real story and a lot of it is the same. The movie just adds a bit more fantasy with xerxes actually being godly and the immortals actually seeming like demons
Then the turks came. 😛
@@Prasen1729 As a Greek we're not afraid, we're ready and we'll win the BARBARIANS.ΜΩΛΟΝ ΛΑΒΕ(Come and get it)
Oh so this movie is like black panther but for Greek people?
What a man Leonidas.....In ship shot while raining he stands still in slow motion.....shot of the century
I hope this includes the moment when Leonidis is calmly eating an apple amongst all the dead and dying Persians, and his buddy is wandering around in the background, stabbing survivors.
The King says, 'I mean, it's not we're not civilized...'
And his buddy in the background pins a Persian begging for his life to the ground and says, 'Aye, sire.' like he's only half listening.
It's not fear that grips him, only a heightened sense of things
I had a close call flying my new "old" plane home, really high density altitude of a high airport and had a magneto failure on departure and the associated low rate of climb.
But yea, I wasn't fearful, but my senses were heightened, everything was happening very smooth and quick.
Afterwards I was like wow.... That was intense, but during, not so much.
They forgot probably the most iconic and recognized quote to this day… “Spartans lay down your weapons” ‘Persians come and get them’ (molon labe)
3:34 According to historians, the King was 60 years old when He led the boys of Sparta to fight Xerxes's army at the Hot Gates.....and there He put the name of Xerxes's elite imperial guardsmen (the Immortals) to the ultimate test.
Leonidas, meaning "son of a lion"......
His name will be remembered for generations.
Sixty years old, huh, that explains the cramp in his leg that prevented him from kneeling lol
@@siliconrockstar187 more fun facts; most of the really famous and often quoted lines from this movie are historically accurate. “our arrows will blot out the sun” “then we shall fight in the shade” Accurate. “Spartans lay down your weapons” “come and take them” Accurate.
There’s even historical evidence from both the Spartans and the Macedonians under Phillip II, that Phillip sent an envoy to the Spartans with the message “If I invade Laconia (the place where the spartan’s are from) you will be destroyed, never to rise again” the Spartans simply sent a one word message in response. “If”. Neither Phillip, nor his son (who you may have heard of a time or two) Alexander The Great would ever even attempt to invade Laconia.
This whole, terse, pithy comeback/one liner thing literally has a name, “Laconic Phrases” in honour of the Spartans :p
Thank you for your comments on my page
The shot of Astinos and Stelios cutting down Persians in slo-mo right before poor Astinos gets his head lopped off, is a pretty badass scene!
I know everyone has said this before...but it is still so true, This is Sparta!

The first part was some next level of Adrenaline. The main actor Gerard Butler (Leonidas) gave this movie an entire turnover
