Agree. Out of them all, it has the closest likeness. At first glance I thought nah, but then you notice that it does look very decent.

The toothy smile head looks as offputting as the promo images. But the other two heads look great IMO. I kinda want this

Well, I'll be damned, this figure is a winner, I'm glad my boy Superman is getting some love in action figure form, this and the Hush Superman are some great action figures for the man of steel

edit: they all look like Christopher Reeve no doubt don't know what people expect the heads tiny, sure it's not 100% accurate but not even the Hot Toys head is 100%.
This is probably the most thorough and well balanced review we are going to get of this figure. Very well done.

I got mine and it did not come with any "liver spots" lol. Might be a QC error but I absolutely love mine! So cool taking pics with the light up fortress of solitude!

I think the neutral/stern face has the closest likeness to Christopher Reeve. The rest I feel somethings’s off, maybe something about the eyes being too small or the mouth or something, I can’t really put my finger on it

The best Christopher Reeve Superman figure I've ever seen is by Hot Toys. They also made a Superman III evil Superman.

Those poses you put the figure into at the close of the video were epic. I don't know if I believe that a man can fly, but I believe that a man can make great videos, and that this is a great figure of Christopher Reeve!
The hair is perfect! When I was little I used to ask my mom to give me the Superman curl on my forehead.

I have such a love/hate relationship with the ONE:12 line - some of the face sculpts and paint are so well executed (this one to me is still very impressive if not perfect) and the amount you get with the figures, and the amount of cloth goods incorporated, all great BUT most times the execution of the cloth goods (uneven and bulky stitching), bulky or ill proportioned bodies, remind me more of an old school Mego figure. I get it, at this scale it’s hard to get that detail and fit in the cloth goods but as we see here, the cape fit, the uneven trunks and the lopsided stitching in the collar all bring the figure down and I honestly think these could have been more carefully executed specially at this price point. (I have their first Joker and it’s still the best figure - design, proportion, details, amazing craftsmanship - hands down I’ve ever owned - so it can be done)

Agree, it's the best 1:12 scale Reeve Supes issued to date. Face likeness is good enough imo but it's Mezco so face likeness expectations are a bit less than the competition (so may be biased). Accessories are pretty cool too. Didn't preorder because of the price but looks like its worth the MSRP. Maybe Manipple will eventually issue an alternate head w/a much improved likeness as just got my Manipple Cavill for Mafex JL Supes yesterday & it's pretty fantastic imo. Wonder if they'll get the rights to Lynda Carter to allow for a Mezco DC Big 3. Thanks much for the detailed & high quality review.

As far as resemblance goes, I believe NECA is much worse than this. This makes me feel like the real deal, nostalgic, both about the original Superman saga, and Christopher Reeve's passing (even if it's been years now). He will always be MY Superman. And I believe Brandon Routh always was the right man to bring on his legacy

I kick myself in the arse for skipping this. All the promo pics showed an extra long cape, but then he came out with the correct length.
I'm giving the nod to NECA on this one, that said would of nice if the ice stand was a freeze accessory you can put over other figures included with an ice blowing headsculpt.
Gotta say the pics I’ve seen online the likeness hasn’t looked great but looks decent in your video prob just quality of the cameras/pictures they’ve taken

Brad I'm sorry to say that we all have a crush on Henry "the Geek" Cavill along with our wives for that matter, so it's ok, going back to topic I have the neca 7 inch Reeve fig and this one flaws and all kicks that one's butt, however although it looks very nice it is a bit underwhelming at the end don't you thing?

Great review. I agree that it's a flawed but pretty darn decent figure of Reeve. However, for $125, I would not put up with the runs in the cape and the blotchy skin tone.
I'm trying to pin point where did the head sculpt went off.
I can tell it's Christopher Reeves with all 3 sculpts lower part of the sculpt. The nose, the cheek , the smile all says Reeves. I think it might have something to do with how they painted the eyes. Or maybe how the eyes were sculpt. Maybe if the eyes were slightly more apart and bigger? I could be wrong.
Man you remind me of someone I went to school with when I was a kid. I'm not saying you look or act like a kid I'm just saying if this kid I knew grew up you would favor.

I received mine on Friday, and it looks good. Now, granted, it's my very first Mezco Figure, so going by first impressions, it does look good. The head sculpts on mine don't have the freckled/liver spots, so it might be a factory issue. The one issue I do have is that the red on the boots don't match the rest of the red on the figure. Great review, Brad. Godspeed.
I still prefer the neca ,just need to buy 3 I. Case the leg breaks , still be cheaper getting 3 that the mezco.

Old video yeah but the freckles, I met Reeve once and he had freckles. The movies didn’t pick them up well but in real life he was fair haired and fair skinned and got all freckly in the sunshine

Wow I didn't know this was available. As for the head likenesses, they're all a little off in their respective ways. For every plus point , there's a negative. The smiling face with the teeth, the teeth are done badly but overall it sort of captures Reeves.
I think the eyes and shape of the face, particularly the oversized jawline could have been modelled better. Still, a decent effort for a classic Reeve supes.

Its a shame you have some qc issues like the stitching. I got lucky and none of the three I ordered have any issues.the face sculpts are all spot on, its just the basic paint apps that may be throwing some people, plus if the apps are even slightly off it really detracts from the sculpt. So some are going to end up happier than others. People are going to make a ton of money making quick casts of these sculpts and giving them more complex paint apps like they did with the cavil head sculpt from the mezco bvs figure and from the Affleck head from the knightmare release(but at least they altered the hair on that one) My only complaint about the figure is the use of wire in the cape. It throws off the look of the figure. I really wish they would've done two capes that are swappable but again just something for customizers to cash in on.
Hi. My Mezco Superman's left arm pops out easily. I have to pull up the sleeve every time to put it back. Any advice on how I could tighten it?
Wait, how did you get this figure this soon when it went on pre-order way after the Keaton Batman one. That figure still hasn't been released.
It's already beginning to ship in some parts of the US. I'm assuming Brad got someone in the US to get his early for him, cuz he's Canadian.
I got mine yesterday from Mezco myself. This happened with John wick as well. Most of the other ones came way after people started reviewing them
I got mine Thursday afternoon and I am relatively geographically near Brad. Mezco is pretty amazing with their shipping in addition to the figure.
Cos they have delayed 89 Keaton 3 times now. It is now scheduled for April 2021. I just hope they fix the belt on Keaton. It was yellow in the movie & they persist on making it gold. Really grinds my gears. Not hard to get it right.

These heads don't looks like the heads displayed on the box. Why don't they use the head sculpt that was on the box...or was that digitally drawn to look real?

I got mine today. Why is the cape so short? It was down to his ankles in the promo pics. But the actual cape barely reaches his knees. I get that's screen accurate. But it just doesn't look right.
Seems like over 40 years ago, Coach Rob's parents brought this action figure on my behalf. It was minus , the accessories, back then! ☺️
Brad, great video as usual brother. This piece is a great rendition of Christopher Reeves SuperMan from 1978 movie my Dad took me to for sure😉🤗 Is it the best SuperMan figure on the 1/12 scale? No. Was it meant to be? No. I surmise Mezco knows its niche in this business and is targeting we OG Collectors who remember wow wonderful it was to see Christopher Reeves SuperMan on screen for the first time (to be sure there was the reruns of the old series Supes of my Dad’s time prior). It was magical for me then. And I certainly will get it and enjoy it on my Desk at the home office. Again, thanks for the awesome review Collector, you rock 🤘🏾🤓

For the price we paid "decent" representation is a letdown. A figure as iconic as Chris Reeve in this costume being given the high-end treatment should have "wowed" us fans. While the extras he came with like the fortress of solitude, extra hands, head and Kryptonite are fabulous, that amounts to nothing if the figure falls flat on the details. I certainly didn't buy this for the accessories. Otherwise, the NECA would've sufficed for my 1/12 collection. Your lack of enthusiasm speaks volumes as a DC fan. While I don't hate this figure, I expected better. I was very excited when I got the shipping notification until I actually signed for it's delivery. Upon opening, my excitement actually went down. I turned to my NECA figure and asked myself if I paid too much for a whistle. I had to use a magnifying lens to focus on the face, and look for the likeness. Even Marvel Legends has improved with their face print technology. The scale shouldn't justify this shortcoming. As you said, it is decent. Hopefully another toyline can take another crack at this and do Chris Reeve some well-deserved justice.
McFarlane's take on Christopher Reeve would be interesting. His toyline is known for good detail. Maybe NECA will do another one but with extra heads. I do admit, though, this Mezco figure is the most poseable Christopher Reeve Supes we can find so far. That flying pose!!
@@BrandonNielsen87 I agree on the poseability. I mean, the set isn't exactly a total loss. The accessories are great, but I have been a fan of MEZCO even before they became "high-end." I certainly collected some of the Original Hellboy Movie figs back in the day, and even the recent movie one after seeing it in person at my comic shop. I really expected better from this toyline taking on the most iconic actor to portray Supes. Like you, I'm also counting on Todd McFarlane to give us a better rendition of Chris Reeves, since he has the current license. Heck maybe an '89 Batman as well since he's been obsessed with the character as shown in his releases. Linda Carter too, maybe?...
@@antoniodechavez4200 Batman Returns figure would be sweet. Toy companies never made 1/12 Batman Returns for some reason. BTW, I've been thinking for a while... Bandai Tamashii Nations can do a really good job on Christopher Reeve face likeness! They did terrific on Wonder Woman and Tony Stark.

I feel like the likeness is closer to Reeve than the the Henry Cavill Superman was to Cavill. Mezco try to copy what Neca does with their celebrity likenesses.

This figure convinces me that soft goods doesn't quite work at this scale. The cape, at least seems to look right on most figures that do it. I think I'll go Mafex.

What’s with all the crap all over the faces? Idk why Mezco adds weird flecks and dots to their face sculpts. Get rid of all that and add some legit shading and their heads wouldn’t look so weird.
Surprised...Finding this CAN in the box. and An 2 Xtra heads. Interesting. Cool at first glance but.....Not sure what I think of the whole thing yet. The Faces are Not that good!!!. Disappointed after about 20 minutes looking at him. Base and Xtras are a little saving grace..especially for the price. oh ya, and My little crp figure and box is Black.

I really enjoy the humor in your reviews! But you should talk about the price because 125 dollars for this is lame. The neca was 25 dollars and is superior in my opinion.
