The African Apostolic Church is one of the largest locally initiated religious movements. It is also known as the Mwazha Apostolic Sect and is known for its signature chant, "Africa Yedu!". The church is led by Archbishop Paul Mwazha Of Africa.

05/09/77 We began our journey calling on name of Jesus and drove in the Toyota at high speed. The road was tarred as far as Mel Setter. Our lone vehicle shot along the highway for over one hundred and seventy kilometres with no encounter. As we approached Makudhlanga after Mengezi near Chimanimani , I felt drowsy and ready to sleep because the Car purring comfortably at speed. In the moments I dozed off I heard the voice of the Holy spirit speak to me; "The mission must be undertaken relentlessly; Preach the Glory of the name of Jesus Christ and his amazing powers of redemption." I woke up and informed all in the Car of the brief but important message meant for us all and spoken by the voice of God.

The Church is established I was now sure in my heart that God had commissioned me to set up the church of His Son Jesus Christ in Central Africa. It happened therefore that in the autumn of 1959, the African Apostolic Church was founded and began to take root. In my capacity as the commissioned servant of the Lord, I stood as bishop to lay the foundations of the organisation of the church. I ordained and appointed some of the group members into positions necessary for the sooth running of the church. Loveless Manhango, was made reverend; Joseph Chakawa, evangelist; Samuel Manhango, prophet; Thomas Chisango, secretary. I made these nominations after Chief Neshangwe and the white District Commissioner of Charter had granted me permission. We began conducting baptisms for everyone in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We travelled in Charter, Buhera preaching and faith-healing. The Apostolic Church began to grow and spread across the then Rhodesia which is now Zimbabwe.
