Fitting a Wunderlich Ergo 2 Screen (clear) to a BMW 1200 GS Adventure NO MORE BUFFETING

  • Even though the standard BMW screen was OK on short distances, we needed something a little bigger and wider to remove buffeting and to make long rides a little more comfortable.
    So we fitted the Wunderlich Ergo 2 Screen, which provides a much wider and higher screen and removes almost all buffeting, whilst still retaining the 'rugged' look of the BMW 1200 Adventure.
    Awesome screen and easy to fit!

    For any tall riders, I’m 1.93cm (6’ 4”), I followed Toby’s lead and fitted this screen. I also put the screen support and a cross screen support as well. Screen is brilliant. Made a huge difference compared to the stock screen I had on my 2015 GS for both myself and my pillion. I don’t even need it fully up unless on the highway doing 100km/hr or more. Generally ride with my visor up, no buffeting, no issues. Cheers Toby.

      That’s great Russell. Glad it helped and yeah, a great screen. What the stock screen should have been!

    Hello Toby! I installed the screen, which is indeed top quality; thick, strong material and with the additional bracket sits solidly in position. I am 6 ft. tall, with short legs at 32 in. inseam. My upper body, up to eye level, is remarkably wind and turbulence free. In the high position, a strong steady airflow now hits my forehead, which would have hit my face/visor square on previously. There is still considerable wind noise to be heard. A good improvement on the stock screen. I wear a Schuberth C3 and tested at speeds up to 160 kmh. The clear screen looks great and fits in well with the looks of the bike. Again thank you for a top quality review. May all your rides make you happy!

    Thank you for this informative video. I love the GS, but the stock screen is woeful. Have looked at a lot of screens, and on the strength of this video just ordered the ergo 2 marathon, as a package with the support bracket. Will report back when tested. P.S.: Full marks for the trusty camera man, sharp images and good views of the installation details.

    Great video, thank you. I’m 6’3 and what’s useful here are comments from some of the vertical challenged people like myself. I was about to order the screen until I seen a few comments saying that wind noise etc for the taller folk didn’t really change that much to justify the cost. The jury is out for me until I speak to someone who has it and is tall. Being tall and handsome has its disadvantages 😜😜😜😜

    Thanks for the video. Very helpful. Couple of tips having just fitted a similar screen myself: 1. Remove the screen then fit the bracing bracket as shown 2. Remove black plastic faring first to give clear access to satnav retention bolts. Comes off easy with two screws.

    Really helpful video! Many hanks to the cameraman following the action so well ... really helped a lot.
    I installed the same wunderlich screen on my new GS, but used the original ribber isolators that fit quite nicely on the screen as well. The issue was that I did not realise the the rubber o-rings were taped the foil in which I had the screen delivered. I assumed there are no o-rings so automatically saved the originals. In fact the manual says, o-rings or reuse of original rubber seal depends on year of manufacture, but it just does not say which to use with which ... Anyhow, I hope they originals will isolate vibrations enough so that it doesn't crack amidst a tour :-)

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  Před 6 lety +1

      You’ll be fine with those o-rings I’m sure. It’s a Fab screen :)

    Hey Toby
    I installed mine today, however, my stabilizer brackets are different. I got a left and right Wunderlich stabilizer.
    My instructions for the brackets were from Germany and missing steps 5-7 out of 10 steps 🤷‍♂️. So i guessed along my install but it turned out great. Big improvement with wind and noise over stock

    Hi again Toby, thanks for the information on the screen. I'm 6'4" (1.93cm). The standard screen on the GS isnt really doing it for me or my pillion. Do you have any feedback from tall riders like myself, on how effective this screen is, or I suppose, are you this tall and are you still happy with the screen. cheers

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  Před 6 lety +2

      Hey Russell. I’m 5’11 so can’t say exactly for a taller person but the larger screen has a lot of adjustment and I have it in the lower position and find it works really well. You could also try one of those small screen deflectors from mra or wunderlich as they seem very good and deflecting the last bit of air away. And with the up and back bar risers I have I find the larger screen just right :)
      Unfortunately it’s a matter of trial and error. Eek!

    I apologize to rant on your channel but I'm a yank so. This type of design really pisses me off. Here's a company (Wunderlich) that has all the resource to design and prototype something and this is the best they can do. I can think of two designs that would be stronger, better looking and would not ruin BMW beautiful one hand on the fly adjustment knob. First, build in a right angle lip into the edge of windshield to add corrugation. Second, the same thing but with metal. The sad thing is there designers when to collage.

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  Před 7 lety +1

      I know what you mean, same with loads of bits of kit, the way things are designed, almost as if each manufacturer designs there kit to be the most important things on the bike... shame BMW don't make a bigger screen and stabiliser.

    • @finstabalised4244
      @finstabalised4244 Před 7 lety +1

      It doesn't matter how rigid you make the screen. its the adjustable BMW screen bracket that needs bracing. Hence why you can buy the bracket separately as it can be used with any other manufactures screen.
