Subaru asking "are you free, can you teach me programming?" is like asking "are you free, can you teach me a different language?" lolol Luna is a great friend.
Bob Newby and Jim Hopper energy
"How 'bout I teach you French while we're at it?"
Programming is considered a language too
"Hey I have to stream tomorrow can you teach me programming?"
"are you free, can you teach me a different language?"
But that's what Reine has been doing with Indonesian...(and Kiara with German too).
After being asked that she still came over. Luna is indeed a wonderful friend.
As a software engineer, I am not sure whether I sympathize more with Subaru for copy-pasting random solutions from the Internet (which is very much what everybody in the field does, to some extent, often bricking their computers in the process even if they have decades of experience), or Luna for telling her not to do it (which is an equally common sentiment, often in the form of wisdom from those who had tried and ended up bricking their computers countless times before).
Okay but I learnt how to triforce on command prompt so it's pretty good
The proud legacy of Therac-25 lives on in the professional standards of software engineering.
Who doesn't like using copy pasta from stackoverflow or other websites? Especially entering new keys to my registry gives me chills :D
Once nearly bricked a GPU by installing the wrong firmware for the brand of VRAM on the GPU, which would cause the screen to corrupt and stop refreshing after a minute. Solution was to find the old/correct firmware and turn the computer on in safe mode and _quickly_ reinstall the functional firmware. I was lucky for it to be recoverable at all.
Another time something in the window's registry corrupted. It was in a way that updating would constantly fail. I couldn't use the restore program in windows because _it_ was also broken. Solution: I compressed a copy of Window's files in Winwar. After a while it said "this file is corrupt and cannot be compressed". I noted the name of that file and went to my still functional laptop, dived deep into Windows to find that exact file, and then replaced the corrupted file on the broken PC. Worked like a charm.
TL;DR computers are kinda spooky
@@lowenevvan8619 that compression trick is such a big brain move.
I always use command prompt on many things lol, really useful when you know what your doing.
True, my real life exp is telling the truth here
yes it's good as long as you know what you're doing
Same, but that Subaru apparently did this because she wanted to follow some random advice on the Internet made my heart leap.
@@KeiosKod That way despair lies
it's also not as Luna said that you can easily brick your OS with it, Windows doesn't let you delete system critical files like the system32 folder
Silly Luna, you're always supposed to trick them into doing a fork-bomb first.
that'll teach'em
This comment and the reply had me laughing way to hard
What is fork bomb?
@@WeebsLifeBalance to fork means to copy a piece of code. A fork bomb is a command that makes copies of itself infinitely and those copies make copies of themselves infinitely. So it basically takes up all the memory on your PC and pushes the CPU to 100% so your computer becomes unusable, but it doesn't itself damage anything, just that the PC is so slow you can't really use it

Command prompt isn't actually scary, but if you have no idea what you are doing, you have less than no idea how to undo what you are doing. I think Luna was just saving Subaru from making a mistake she couldn't easily fix on her own.
Legit i had to fix problem that came from people messing with CMD he accidentally deleted some files on his softwares but at that time i dunno what was he doing and when i asked what happened the guy said he saw tutorial to fix his software crashing then using CMD to do it, and i legit felt cold sweat when hearing CMD, and my thoughts goes to "Please dont mess with the registry..." And when i asked what command he ran he said "I don't remember" And he already closed and restarted his PC so i can't backtrack to see what command he used, imagine my relief when i find out he just accidentally some dll files that is easy to recover 😅

As a Linux user, I needed to learn a lot of command line... and I'm still surprised that the average Joe is so freaking scared of the command line. If you can type a document you can certainly use the terminal! Even a literal zero years old baby can use it, as demonstrated here
You should only use it for commands you are familiar with. If you know nothing, fear is the correct response. It’s like saying taking apart the transmission of your car isnt anything to be afraid of if you can hold a wrench. Confidence without knowledge is dangerous. Sorry if this is long or preachy, kind of on a time crunch here.
Uh, it's incredibly easy to fuck yourself over, especially in a bash terminal. There are a lot of clowns out there who will post random mini-articles with command lines that tell you exactly how to destroy something important, while wording it in ways that a non-technical user would not understand. Great for Google hits, not so great for technical support. The user will not know how to look for what they're looking for, and will end up asking the wrong questions, leading to wrong solutions.
fear is never the correct response.
she hasn't shown that she knows how to use it (she probably does but there isn't any proof), she just told Subara to keep her wings off of it

I've also used it to login to active directory and many other utility commands. I'm around beginner-intermediate level and some of my coworkers do crazy stuff with it. They automate tasks so they just watch TV and drink beer with today's wfh arrangements 😂

@@MiKuZo it just has potential to brick your computer if you were blindly following internet advice without knowing what the command does
Shuba: Never touch a command prompt.
Me as a Programmer who uses Command Prompt like a lot: That's what I've been doing my whole career.
Either way, most of the things you do on cmd are just installing npms and stuff like sql/database manipulation but these are getting obsolete nowadays because some applications were already created for such kind of tasks.
The terminal is indispensable for efficient work, and it's annoying to make all configuration available through GUI (Windows try time and time again and always end up with a ton of settings so niche you can only access them through the PowerShell module magic, which I always pray won't break the rest of my system due to some unforeseen side effects).
It's largely a matter of opinion, but by the time you figure out how to do a git rebase in a GUI, you'd have the PR merged if you just used a single command. Of course, it is much more scary and dangerous if you don't know how these tools actually work because humans are far better adapted to using visual tools, but they simply aren't as efficient, typically. It's not a coincidence, nor an old-school thing; it actually works better for specific use-cases, typically not performed by end-users.
They will never become obsolete for programmers and advanced users.
Also, it is kinda hard to do anything bad to ur system from the command prompt, you would need admin rights and possibly even that is not enough.
@@NatiiixLP Yeah we still use command if it is much more convenient or when the task is overly dependent on it but if some application can make those tasks more convenient like using VS terminal for Git or like using Navicat/SQLYog/Any other front-end for sql operations then many people will gladly jump to that application instead.
Back in my day, the only way you could interact with a PC was via a command prompt.
@@megumin9967 You can't always have a code editor, IDE, or frameworks/language like node, python, or react. The amount of times I coded something in python when my job title is literally python dev is significantly less than the amount of times I'm called about a cronjob being hung and I need to ssh into our VM which is linux like everything else. Even nowadays when everyone has their AWS Lambda/Azure Functions with serverless computing, you can get a lot done by knowing your vim/emacs, knowing your bash/zsh, and knowing your way around a terminal. Shit, if you ever want to program in Linux, it's a damn necessity.
