    They might be hurt but they are not out. The American entry is showing absolute determination to get back out on the water.

    The design of the boats is not suitable for 'match racing'.
    No open cockpit crew effectively 'below decks', skipper unable to see the starboard yacht until it appeared from behind the headsail, and crew inside the yacht.

    I don't agree, all the 65s got away without problems they had crew on deck watching for port Stb'd situations to reduce the chance of a collision. These Imoca boats have the crew below deck out of the elements. Charlie was alone on deck, occupied with steering the boat, it was too late to avoid the collision. he had right of way but was still obliged to avoid the collision. Normally with crew on deck a tactician would give an order to avoid a collision, the boat would tack away then make a protest. (He who bears away lives to fight another day.)
    Remember these boats are traveling at 20 knots plus this is a closing speed of 40knots. Having the crew in a dry bubble has proved it has it's negatives. I hope this will be a lesson for the future.
    Two boats at fault, two boats out of the race.
    Rule 7 Every vessel shall use all available means appropriate to the prevailing circumstances and conditions to determine if risk of collision exists. If there is any doubt such risk shall be deemed to exist.

      No. If Malizia comes in first to Genoa, they will have 27 + 5 = 32 Points. 11th Hour Racing Team has already 33 points even if they retire from the leg. Depending on the result of Holcim (actually 31 points), they can become 2nd, but this is very unlikely and only possible if Holcim retires or gets penalised due to some (at the moment) not existing reasons.

    This is such a shame. It's time to eliminate the in-port races from this competition. It was kind of silly when it was happening in fully crewed V070s and V060s but doing the in-port racing with four crew on IMOCA 60s is just dumb. Even setting aside this accident, buoy racing should not be the tiebreaker for an ocean racing event. If we want to have racing in each stopover city maybe some sort of single day coastal race could be held. Or the teams could do some exhibition racing with sponsors but not for points. Hoping for change going forward. For now heartbreaking for both 11th Hour and Guyot. This has otherwise been a very exciting and well-run edition of the race. Even if 11th Hour are able to continue tomorrow or whenever and arrive in Italy as well some day, they will be as the second boat on two feet as of now at least 5 days behind Malizia (Malizia ~ 85 days race time, 11th Hour ~88 days after leg 6). • @alexandermenck6609
      @alexandermenck6609 Před rokem +2

      I agree and disagree. The reason for the crash has to be sorted out. A team has to analyse why there was nobody checking the competition. They knew that 11th Hour was somewhere there. They were above the lay line (above Holcim) so they could expect 11th Hour crossing. Sure, it’s a lot for only four on bord. Perhaps it’s better not to sail this format in IMOCAs at all. These questions are allowed and have nothing to do with armchair sailing but with interest in this sport to go on and to improve.
      I agree on the spirit of sportsmanship in particular from Charlie Enright’s side and the whole team of 11th Hour Racing for being so humble to acknowledge that errors happen and that apologies are accepted. I sincerely hope they find a way to finish this. But fair enough - if Holcim wins this leg they deserve an overall win as well even if their closest competitor cannot fight for the points they need for the win anymore.

Second, to 11th hr... there is a major rule of right-of-way on the water - TONNAGE. You may have right-of-way, but the other guy(ot) may be big, fast and not paying attention. I don't know how Guyot team could do this... Guyot is the #5 and 11th #1. Bad decisions... Sad for 11th 😔💔 Hope they can find a way to come back to the race. 🫶🇧🇷 #go11th

      i think you are wrong to blame charlie enright in this situation, he tried to evade as soon as he noticed that they were not seen.

      Going down below them would not have worked. They would’ve sped up as they bore away. Power in sails would have made it very hard without easing the sail adjustment - which would have taken to long, plus would have powered them up and increased impact speed Going up was his only option.
