2023 Honda XR150L / First Impressions On and Off Road

- I just purchased the new little Honda XR150L dual sport motorcycle, and I will be bringing you along for my very first ride on it, and discussion my first impressions, along with seeing what this little budget friendly dual sport motorcycle can handle on and off road.
Is this motorcycle worth the money, or is it just over hyped?

1023 miles, first bike thats actually mine, pegs, shift lever, bark busters, an old tactical backpack zipp tied to the rear rack, Could use a riser, a phone mount and a usb port, easy as hell to ride. Super duper fun been all over south east ky
One thing is clear, you had a whole lot of fun making that video and I I'm impressed by it.
So much fun
Been riding mine for 5 years and so far I don't have big issues on it aside from minor repairs that are common for most bikes. Its so reliable and easy to maintain with lots of aftermarket parts that can be found anywhere. Its not so fast but it can take you anywhere you want, it may on on road or off road.
I got mine 2 weeks ago as my first bike, I love it. I now work at the dealership I bought it from and we're getting a shipment of 5 more soon and I'm gonna get to build them for the showroom.
oh cool! I would love to work in a bike shop
I'm loving my XR150L here in tbe Philippines. Perfect bike for here, its considered big as most bikes are 125cc. Because its tall for here, you don't see a ton of them. Ive converted mine to all LEDs, swapped the carb to a PZ27 and installed a full Yoshimura exhaust. I did a tidy tail , aluminium handlebars with handguards, aluminium passenger pegs as well, dropped a lot of weight. Great bike!
Paps ano yung pz27?
The perfect light bike! My favorite small bike of all times was a 67 Honda 160 or 165 scrambler. It was gray and really classy and it had a beautiful sound.
Great video, very good. This same model was sold here in Brazil for a long time, initially with 125 cc and later with 150 cc. Today it is for sale as the NXR 160 Bros, bringing more modernity with the digital panel, electronic injection, disc brakes on both wheels and, obviously, a larger displacement. We also don't have ABS, Ride Modes or Clutch Assist, but the bike is a top seller in the segment, a darling.
I bought one back in January 2020, just before the lockdowns here in the Philippines.
The first thing I did was to add a plastic fender at the rear part of the front mudguard, in order to avoid getting so much mud on the engine. I also lowered the front mudguard by an inch.
Then I installed a 27mm carburator, and a big bore cylinder kit, making it 183cc.
I also removed the rubber on top of the air filter box to allow more flow.
A metal skid plate was also mounted, together with some fancy hand protectors.
Not many longer trips were done due to the strict lockdowns, but I really loved the bike and took it out on local roads - also dirt roads.
The rubber on the foot rest was quickly destroyed due to me standing on them, so you are smart to just remove those rubbers from the very start.
Me and my wife made a couple of challenging trips on very bad roads, and of course carrying a passenger and a top bag of hard plastic limits the ability for real hard off road driving.
We crossed some large rivers, and it is amazing both on and off road.
If you are planning on going off road with this bike, I suggest you put a smaller front sprocket. Standard is 17T, when going on really challenging trails, I put a 14 or 15T on it (kept them under the seat so I could change quickly).
The tires were changed into some more knobby ones at around 9000 km, as I really like to drive on difficult paths.
However, the original tires are great for both on and off road, so no worries.
I sold it last February due to travelling for a longer period, but when I am back for a longer period I dream of getting myself another one of these lovely vehicles that will last and last and last...
The perfect Life bike. This thing will be working in 75 years as long as it is taken care of. Stock up on parts and it'll outlive/run you and me both.
I really love that it is carbureted as well.
Planning to get one as my first motorcycle. Thanks for the video dude.
There's a CZcams guy that is currently traveling with a dog from Mexico to Argentina on that same bike, so far he made it to Costa Rica with no issues
What is the you tube channel of the guy with the dog traveling to Argentina?
@@ggoozzii It is in Spanish though, It is called Pato Coll
Right now he is in Brazil
This brought back memories of the time I was out in Eastern Kentucky and I decided to take one of those, "Wonder where this goes" trails. Soon I was in thick nasty stuff but I was on a KLR 650! An hour and a half and a few Millon cuss words and prayers later I emerged on a deserted road. Talk about a workout!! Great video man! You got a new sub here!! 👍
Just had to drop a comment.
I really enjoyed watching the whole video, great job 😁😁 glad that you guys are lovin' our asian workhorse bike 💪
I’m a huge fan of small Hondas. Groms, navis, etc and I think this falls right into that. I dig it.
After owning a Grom (first gen), the XR is like a cruising bike, i just made a 800 km trip in 2 days. 50% of the trip at a STEADY 90km/h. 2.7L/100km (only 2200 km speedo, mpg still improving, speed to). And way better of road (stock tire XR vs noisy big block tires on the Grom) and the lower grunt speed in first.
@@32gogluwould this be a good long term bike for highschooler/college student?
Quit racing enduros in 2000after 25 years! Now I want one to get back out there! Last racer wasXR400 ! LOL
One of the best first rides ive watched. Cheers
This was the best test of what this bike could do especially through the soft marsh. Great job. Really like this bike for the older new riders an of course college kids. Nice
thank you
got this about 2 months ago. at 41, for a first bike this has been awesome to learn on. 400 miles and counting!
@@poisonousnut Nice. I hope to get one after Christmas. See if you could post one of your rides. There’s nothing like a first time rider. If you do let’s us knows 👍
Nice vid! I have just over 250 miles on mine and have been having a blast. Been riding for over 40 years and it's nice to be back to the basics. Still waiting for a proper skid-plate. I swear I'm not getting the B&B from the outback, but it's the best I've seen to date. Ride safe! Subbed!
I ordered the B&B
Subscribed, just picked up my xr yesterday. I have ridden many bikes, mostly larger KLRs, Gs, Dr. I am really looking forward to see what this bike will do and hopefully the aftermarket will have. Great video, small takes me back to my first bikes back in the 70's and 80's.
haha the small bikes amazes me sometimes. The army in my country uses something similar to this bike, the yamaha ag200 for the scouts. the bike had a full crash bar set with the field pack, radios, and out rifles, and it's still trucking along. not fast by any means but it keeps tucking on with little problems 😂😂
From headsets to my future investment of a bike, thank you for all your reviews man. 🙏🏼
Liked and subscribed because I know you didn’t want to go through that puddle you got stuck in but you did it for us. You were debating and I thought you wouldn’t do it even tho I was hoping you would and then you did it. Awesome video
Nice job!!! Thats real life baby! Exactly how riding looks - should I - shouldn't I ?!?!?! Lov it
Excellent review!
Was planning on getting a grom or z125 but then this bike came to the states and now I'm thinking it's the bike for me. Great video!
Couple years ago I bought a pair of steel series wireless headphones with aftermarket ear cups which I love. I purchased em after watching a bunch of videos that I think you made. That or you have a twin.... Thank you if it was you! 😂
I got my XR150 on June 30th. They got their July shipment early. I've got 450 miles on it already. The speedometer is off this much: 30 mph is really 32 mph, 35 on the speedo is really 38 mph, 40 on the speedo is really 44 mph, 45 mph is really 50, 50 is really 55, 55 is really 60. Wish I could remark the speedometer to match the needle! lOL. And with the speedo being driven off the front wheel, changing your gear ratio won't affect the speedometer like it does the modern bikes. It sure is a lot of fun to ride and goes fast enough for the secondary roads in NM. It tops out 55 on the speedo or 60 mph in real life. But it cruises nice at 50 on the speedo (55 mph). But there's not much left on the throttle and you need to be on pretty flat roads without a lot of headwind. With a little headwind it's hard to hold 50 on the speedo. It will never get the predicted 124 mpg. I got 87 mpg on the first tank and 94 on the second tank. I'd like to see it break 100 mpg but it will probably only do that if you are putting around at 30-40 mph.
Hello Bro! New sub here from the Philippines. I really enjoyed your narration.
So fun looks like!!!
Just sub after the 300 LS video n can’t wait to c more Thank ya big lots!!
My first 150 miles was almost entirely wot. Because it was in a different town to get it and only one road to it. 55-65 all the way home😂
love this bike, I really want one- had smaller XR honda's when I was younger before my 450 ktm and Yamaha... I think it would be a blast - don't need no gear indicator!
I love the Nelson Rigg tail bag it's my favorite tail bag out currently. It looks "Stink'n Cozy" on that sweet little bike.
Mi like cozy .
Man, nice I like the black, I'll take one !
This "little" bike has an almost indestructible air-cooled engine & has stood the test of times in numerous foreign markets so
Honda changes the muffler(emissions) & went for a slice of market share for a less affluent audience. This market has been
here the whole time but hey, what about all the folks coming across the borders ; they will know this bike better than we know
it so smart move Honda! I'm looking at it too, put on a bike rack style lift on my RV & let it rip. Thanks for the video
congrats we have been looking at them they would be fun to add to the fleet. enjoy the 4th and #livetoride
My first bike was a Honda XR200 dirt bike , I fell in love...and I had to sell to get a car after i was in an accident with someone who had no insurance...now I am ready to invest in a dual sport, as I want to have the freedom of taking the bike on/off road, I don't have a truck....Anyway, I LOVED this video, this gave me so much confidence and answered all of my questions, addressed all the concerns I had. It will be my first bike on the street....Thank you for this entertaining, very helpful video!!!!
thank you for watching
Very good review thanks
Thank u
The clutch on mine drives me crazy too. It only seems to grab on the very end of the release. I too think the XR150L did really well in Arizona desert sand. I'm a total noob on sand being from PA so I'm relearning everything. My first tank was 172 miles then switched to reserve when it died in traffic. 30 miles was off-road.
30 miles on reserve?
Hello from central PA! Quite a bit of sand here and it does quite well.
@@adventureundone 30 miles of the 172 was off road. The bike died while I was on a 4 lane highway
Best XR150L video I have seen yet. Great insights and perspective. I think this would be perfect for a fun, low cost bike for cruising around the endless dirt and backroads of the MI’s Upper Peninsula where I live. I want to throw a leg over one but my local dealer is asking 5k for one they have in stock and that’s a hard no. Hopefully they come back to their senses. 😆
Thats what the dealership told me at first. I came back with 34. Ended up at 42 and change with 3 extra years "platinum" warranty
$42??? You Still Got Ripped Off, People Like You Keep The Stealerships In Business.
Thank u so much
can't get any lower than that, the US economy will not get any better and prices of goods will never go down, it only has one trajectory
Been thinking of getting one of these. I would use it on the pavement only long enough to get it to dirt so I'd put knobbys on. Add a skidplate. Maybe it's just me, I'm 66 and been riding since I was 10, but I've never needed a gear indicator ever.
The XR 150l is basically a souped-up mini bike for adults. It's got just enough fit to make it street legal without all the other bells and whistles that can go wrong. Keeping it simple and lightweight is the best thing for an all-around trail bike that can fairly easily be put in the back of a pickup and taken out to or driven to the trails. Because this bike has been out for years overseas, it has plenty of aftermarket support, so you can customize it to fit your own needs. Plus, it's dirt cheap.
I'm considering this for my first bike to learn on and figure out what kindoff riding I like. And maybe my daily commuter since it's all backroads for me. Any competitors to consider?
Great video. Thanks n
Thanks
Really curious about these. Ever since my 125cc Amazon DualSport got stolen, I've been debating about what to replace it with. These have steadily remained a top contender. Hows it holding up 6months later?
I know your bike can be had in either black or white but I think the black looks much better than the white color scheme. Nice choice.
I was wondering. How do you feel about snakes?
Great vid! Enjoyed watching you getting deeper into the swampy track 😊
😂
I have a ct125 and I love it
i knew you were in Ms without seeing the plate lol I used to live in Vidalia, La. (across the river from Natchez), spent a lot of time as a kid on the Homocitto, Clear Springs, and Meadville area.
Thinking of buying one for riding in the Philippines. Mostly for reliability and affordable .
Beautiful ride brother …what state are you in? I need that in my life 😂 I am in Arizona not much for forests here
I am looking at possibly getting 2 for trail riding. Wife and I ride Harleys, but I still have a KTM 450EXC along with an XR100 in the stable. Don't ride the KTM the way it is meant to be, which in many ways, makes it less fun then my XR100. Be great on fire roads and easy trails just to explore. We love our Harleys and the multiple day rides, but putting around in the woods is just as fun.
I want one!
I wish they will sell this in Europe i would buy it in a heartbeat its exactly what i need for my riding style
I want your honest opinion I'm thinking about picking one of these up my wife doesn't want me to ride anymore I've been all a motorcycle for many years but still can ride when I say that I mean I still know how to use a clutch and everything because I've had four wheelers all the way up until recently. I was diagnosed with cancer and the doctors wanted me to sell the four wheelers they didn't want me to get hurt and screw up all the surgeries I had. The urge to ride is still there I just want to bike to make the little short trips around my house no more than three or four miles at a time. What would you think about a guy in my size at 6'2 260 lb buying a small bike like this I'm not worrying about top speeds as long as I can get it around 45 for my size that's plenty for the little bit of errands I do nowadays. If I seen off-road it would be light gravel no mud but like I said it would be something to leave the car at home and just take a short trip to my local Walgreens or pick up a couple grocery items at Walmart both a four mile round trip from the house on Pavement
nice looking bike no skid plates kinda funny most enduro type vikes dont come with them the one I put on my DR looks like they had an amored car in mind when they built it but nothings going to get through it
Let me get this straight: Honda has a dual sport that can do all of that and is less expensive than a Grom or a Trail 125?
I feel like this is the type of bike you putt around town and maybe gear it down a tooth or 2 even and just make it a torquey fun machine for on and Offroad fun
Finally a black one! I keep seeing the white ones I love how this one looks
How is it if you are 6’3 ?? I had a klr650 but it was too heavy and slippery
Put this on my kick stand. Definitely an upgrade.

Just found your channel. Live your enthusiasm. Been looking to purchase one of these. Haven't ridden for awhile. Any suggestions for someone getting back into riding?
Thank u so much. I would start with budget. Also take a look at the Royal Enfield Himilayan great adv bike, and very solid for new riders, not much $ also.

@@adventureundone I have seen a couple of videos on those. Thank you very much
I really want one as a replacement for a cheap chinese 250cc dirt bike I had that bit the dust earlier in the year, and of course it'll be perfect for when my parents finally let me get a Motorcycle License
Hell yes it’s good.
you couldn't hear me talking to your video LOL... but the dieing on fast throttle only happens during the first few miles on the bike.... and the stock tires not so great in mud... but otherwise they are really good tires. Fun bike!
I would like to know why they have such a high seat height.
I like the 150 to 250 range... Ive had bigger bikes but, have always had more fun on these sized bikes.
garbdge on the midle of trail , is this usa ?
You in South Mississippi?? I know Tradition parkway when i see it that's the exact area i was wanting to ride through!
Ehhhh, yeah I am. Where and what do u ride?
We should plan to meet up and ride.
Gonna buy this as a used bike so we have a offroad (this bike), a comfortable daily scooter, and a "fast" tourer ( a mt03)
Too Cool.
The 50mph, according to other you tubers will change at 1500 miles. More zip, and more speed. ...break in?
Great video...How much did it cost you out the door?
3800
What part of MS. are you in. I'm in the Terry area.
So im going to look into a cheaper bike next spring, definitely interested in this, but also ive seen some good things about some of the Chinese bikes, like the Brozz Recon or Hawk 250. Mainly a commuter to save on gas from my truck, roughly 20 miles one way, any ideas/opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Hawk is junk .
I ordered the B&B Off Road alluminum bash plate from australia, has a cut out to access oil drain bolt and is very light weight. Havent put it on yet cause it just came today, the reserve is .9 gallons or 2.5L so lots to get ya home ,
That a solid plate, but dang the price
Annnnnnnd I just ordered one 😂
@@adventureundone next thing i need to find is a rear shock guard cause i noticed it got really muddy offroading
@@justinmatthews8575yeah I noticed that as well. I have a bunch of mods on order already 😂
Love my 150..just did valve lash.600 miles
Where is this? Carolina Sandhills?
use trip A or Trip B. Full tank will get you 285 miles. As for gear indicator, use the engine sound and feel as gear indicator. You'll get used to the engine sound what gear you are in. Experience using this bike will get you what you need.
Great video , it's like you can't really go wrong with a Honda , I'll bet you could drop it off a cliff (into dirt) and ride it away , what a great inexpensive way to get into a whole bunch of fun...
Very popular bike here in the Philippines
I am gonna get one in white if I can find one.
The quoted gas mileage is not what honda claims . My xr150l gets about 180 or so miles before it cuts off and you have to switch to reserve fuel otherwise you aint going nowhere .
Не перегревается?
I think it is a great bike but would love to see EFI on it.
And a rear disc brake
nice sir
Great for a teen or as a 2nd/3rd bike .
So if I was 6’6 and planning and getting my first bike, this would be too small?
Not too small, but might feel a little small.
@@adventureundone awesome thank you, the price tag on this is too good not to bite at after wanting one for so long 😂
Get yourself A used 250L
I spend a lot of time in high elevations. That’s why I picked a Kawasaki versus 300. Would actually prefer a smaller bike.
The Versys X300 is an excellent bike! We have one and it's gone some pretty impressive places! Awesome on road performance too, far better than a smaller dualsport.
i would not go intoa trail like that so far, easy to get lost, and the slower you go, the easier to get bit by a snake. ...If I didnt live ina Busy agressive busy crazy part of town before I get to open road for a 9 mile straight away to get to work each day, Id strong ly consider one of these.
You will ditch the gas can when you learn to use the reserve valve
Also, these things are extremely frugal, it is almost impossible to run out of gas
nah, always nice to have that extra bit when deep off road.
Can a 5'6" and 135 lbs dude with an inseam of 29" ride this bike?
I am your size and sat on one in the showroom and almost dropped it. Only your toes will touch the ground. You could ride one if you had to but you would be happier on a monkey or a grom. If you want to mostly ride trails get the trail 125.
I usually get approximately 184 miles and then hit reserve. 97 mpg average doing 45-50 mph average, 210 pound rider.
How many miles on reserve?
@@adventureundone I wish I knew. I'm going to test that when I get an extra fuel bottle.
Honda still the championship company...ride red !!!
What year is this bike?
2023, just came to north america for 2023
Beef up that suspension and toss on some Dunlop 606's. Call it a day..
Snakes and Puddles. O MY! LOL.
His inner hepatologist kicks in...(yes of course; all snakes are nocturnal) ..😂😂
Techne??? wtf how do you enjoy the same hobbies I do lol
You need more memory awareness to know gears.. feel of pants will tell you when to shift up or down anyway.
Techne does bikes
Wth
Found my go to for both now.
ehhhh thank you so much for watching over here as well. Thank you so much for the support
Techne?? funny seeing you here
Just found your channel look at life ofburch he shows a nice skid plate
Yeah he has that plastic Honda one. I ordered an aluminum one
@@adventureundonewhat/where did you get the aluminum skid?
Eh, that cold start and it dying makes me pass on this one for a used KLX/CRF 300 which are much better choices, and are just as basic, reliable and more capable.
