    In this video I show how you can use your factory nav mount to power a Zumo XT. Granted you do loose the wiz wheel functionality, but I never used it anyways.

    Pat, thanks so much for sharing this video. I wanted to use my original mount and wiring for the Garmin Zumo XT so this was the solution I was looking for. I'm so glad you provided the link to buy the part. I was a bit apprehensive to order the part from Italy but I decided to take a chance. It showed up 4 days later and installed really easy thanks to your video. Works like a charm and I couldn't be happier. Thanks again for the video and link. Much appreciated!

    Add another to the list of people happy that you did this video. I didn't know this product existed till I saw it here. As in your case, I ordered it and had it in my hands in Ohio in 4 days from Italy. Mine also came with nuts preinstalled and the right length screws. In about 10 minutes I was in business. Thanks Pat, and hats off to "adapter 3D motorrad" for an awesome product!

    THIS SIMPLE FIX REALLY GETS BETTER EVERY DAY. MINE CAME IN WITH THE RIGHT LENGTH SCREWS AND FOUR HAT WASHERS THAT WENT DOWN IN THE MOUNT SO THAT PROBABLY DID THE JOB FOR THE FOUR EXTRA WASHERS YOU NEEDED AND IT DID MAKE ME REALIZE THE HOLES WERE FILLED WITH A RUBBER INSERT SO ONCE ALL IS TIGHT THERE IS A BIT OF A HIGH FREQUENCEY VIBRATION SOFTENING. THE 3 D PRINTING QUALITY SEEMS TO ME TO BE MORE REFINED WITH THIS LATEST ITERATION. ALL IN I FIND THE WHOLE THING JUST SPLENDID. THOSE FOLK IN ITALY GOT THEIR HEAD TOGETHER. THEY INCLUDED A SMALL SCREW AND ZUMO HAD TWO SCREWS IN THE XT PACKAGING. I ENDED UP WITH FOUR EXTRA LONG SCREW AS WEL ASSUMING THEY MUST BE FOR A DIFFERENT MOUNTING OPTION. I ALSO HAD FITMENT WORRIES ON MY ADJUSTABLE WINDSCREEN I RETRO FITTED MY 750 GS WHICH IS FOUND ON 850 GSADVENTURES MODELS . I FOUND THE EXTRA PROTRUSION WAS MORE THAN ENOUGH TO GIVE ME THE ROOM FOR THE ADJUSTER. LONG STORY SHORT THIS WAS A REALLY GOOD SOLUTION FOR MY LITTLE MIDNIGHT TRIPLE BLACK 750.

    Outstanding! I was going to mount the Zumo with custom wiring but saw your video and liked this better due to retention of factory lock mechanism. The Italians were out of stock for a few weeks but was able to pick up the adapter, simple clean install, good to go. Just wanted to drop a note to say thank you! Would be nice if someone could 3D print a new vanity plate/cover to use when Zumo not mounted but it works great as is. Cheers!

    I ordered two of these last November (2022); one for the wife's 2021 GS750 and one for a 2022 GS850 I had ordered. I had the same experience with shipping. They arrived in 5 days and my GPSs took 3 weeks. I'm in a conundrum now however, because I just opened them (my GS850 took 8 months to arrive after ordering so I just put the unopened adapters away until it arrived) and neither adapter arrived with the adapter plate that has the two contacts and attaches to the main plate with 4 screws. All I received was two of the locking mechanisms and two of the main adapter plates that have the 3DAM logo on them so now I'm trying to get the rest of the parts I need which is a PITB when dealing with an overseas company I can't just call.

    I tried this mechanism but have had nothing but trouble! Firstly the slide section shattered....the plastic is way too brittle....this was replaced. The next was the base. There is obviously some electronics in it to drop the voltage from 12 to 5 volts. that managed to work 2 times before failing. Now the store is closed for holidays in Italy!!! Can't win! Hopefully they will replace the base and quickly once they open again. I have a 4,000km safari starting mid August which is the reason I purchased the adaptor and Zumo 6 weeks ago!. Hopefully I am the only one who is having so many problems!

My two main gripes with my VI is that’s it’s not very bright or easy to read in the sunlight and I have to manually upload routes to the unit which keeps me from using it very much. Thanks!

    HI PAT . Ray back again. I just got my 3D adapter in , like you suggested I ordered the extra lock (they call it a security device) Ironically you don't really need the different lock mounted as I mounted out to my cradle when it came n today and just for grins I tried the lock and the lock lever that was on my cradle locked on the the adapter and prevented it from being removed. Maybe I am premature in judgement as I have not got the sumo XT in shipment yet so we'll see . The existing lock slides over the top of the adapter and prevents it from going anywhere after you take out the key. There must be another reason that wont work with the actual Garmin bits.

    • @PatsAdventuresTravels
      @PatsAdventuresTravels  Před 2 lety +1

      It is way better for sure. The biggest complaint I have and can be fixed by Garmin but won't be is.... When you power the bike up the GPS comes on under external power. Then when you start the bike the GPS complains that it lost power and will shut down or you can press cancel to stop it. Press cancel and it runs on battery power at that point. Most of the time it switches back over to external power after a few minutes to several minutes. Every now and then it never does and stays on battery power. I had to pay 120 US Dollars just to get the adapter because it comes from Italy. Well worth it over all!!

      Only issue has ever been power. When you start the bike the garmin momentarily loses power and it wants to shut down. But that is a flaw in the software. Most of the time I tell it to cancel shut down and after a bit it realizes power has been restored. Every once in a while it doesn't and runs off battery. I am still waiting for my Zumo XT to arrive as it will also contain a bracket that needs to be attached to the 3D Motorrad adapter. But from watching your video, and granted your bike is a GS not an RT, it is not clear to me as to why you had to play with the navigation cradle locking mechanism? Either I don't understand or there is missing information from the manufacturer of the adapter. Can you explain why one has to take apart the locking mechanism at all? Thanks much!

    • @PatsAdventuresTravels
      @PatsAdventuresTravels  Před 2 lety +1

      Because the stock locking adapter will not slide over and lock once the e Nav is installed. If you bought the e Nav locking adapter then it will allow the factory cradle to lock the e Nav on the bike and that will block the locking tab on the GPS itself so it can't be easily stolen. I would also think it would help the GPS not fall off on rough roads but I can't swear to that. Hope that helps!

Few XTs do this problem and garmin is working to fix it.
