I have loved Rita Coolidge since I discovered her music in 1969 when I was 10. This is so powerful. My maternal grandmother was Cherokee.
You got me beat by 4 years. She is great.
I fell in love with this voice on mad dogs englishman singing superstar that she contributed lyrics to but never received due long overdue credit joe introduced rita to sing a lead song on his solo tour tells many a tale and love leon had for her anyway nuff said on that for another day the passion and plea in ritas voice and reverence with this masterpiece brought me to this moving song of native american homage to of reverence and cultural richness and yes the sound man got the mix powerful RITA COOLIDGE AND FAMILY MORE POWERFUL IN 2023 THAN EVER ENRICO .28 FROM EARON EARTH JUST LIKE YOU NYC THANKYOU FOR YOUR INSPIRATION LOVE YOU SOOOOHHHH PEACE OUT SEE YOU IN POINT DUME AGAIN ONE DAY
Raised as white in middle class home then at 65 finding my real ancestors that my parents did not know about. I found a lot of them, Cherokee, Algonquin, Shawnee and Wyandotte. Together they made me understand why I was drawn to the outdoors and the old ways. But also there is English, Irish and Scottish that I now know about. We are nothing if not all of our ancestors. I am blessed to understand this song in a new way. .
It is said that in the heart is where the very essence of life is found. it is said that if in your heart you find that you are Native then believe it. For in my heart I am Indian I may not be full blood but I am still Indian. Wise Elders will hope you to understand that we are all brothers and sisters. I am no better then you and I am no less then you.
I am Numa/Nium )Paiute/Mono) and I honor this song and the ladies who sing it.. It captivates me.. I do not look only at the beauty of it.. but of the truth of being given a real name, one of spirit and creative substance by parents, grandparents or from the names of our ancestors. There is much power in a name.. My children were given names by myself (grandparents names) and I from my grandparents, medicine people, healers and leaders.. That name gave me my character of those who held it before making me their presence here on this earth. Their names transfers spiritually to the person who holds it.. I see that in my sons and daughter.. It is evident. This is the reason I love this song.. How many people of native blood, those who have almost none and those of much need a name... a real name.. There is power in a name.. Proven.. fact.. Blessings to all..
I still get goosebumps, listening to Rita in 2022. Learned to appreciate her end '60s
Cherokee women are beautiful!
Thanks love this song. AHO
Rita is looking more and more Native American as she gracefully ages. She got to the crescendo as I was writing this. Gave me goosebumps.
Lol she’s not native. She’s a white woman.
@@jcant77 Her grandfather was full Cherokee.
@@fiddlesing5130 No he wasn’t. She’s White.
Rita will be busted like Buffy Sainte Marie next. She’s another fraud like Cher, falsely claiming Cherokee for years.
@@jcant77true. Rita tried to say her family lived on a reservation in Tennessee lol. No reservations are in that state.
So sad to hear the passing of my old friend 'Miss Pris'. A lovely hummingbird is no longer with us. I'll see you again soon.
Love Rita Coolidge. Have been listening to her forever!!! These three sound beautiful together.
She is one my all time favorites…I have that CD WELA… beautiful work and voices ❤❤❤❤
My favorite Native Song of all. Rita bears her soul in this song. Her Native Soul comes through. I can't say enough about this song. Rita wrote it and sings it perfectly. She shows us her native soul in this song and what a treat! Thank you Rita for such a great song! Great story to it, the words are so powerful! I love it!!!!
She’s Scottish.

Beautiful ! Voices of Angel's
heyyah is the sound two hawks make when they are mourning the death of a person they love. I doubt that many Indians remember where this sound comes from anymore. They just steal feathers from birds, never get to know them the way my mother did. They came to my mom's back door crying when she died.
Some of us still remember and honor their way of life while we still have them
yes we do honor
If ;you knew your culture and were really a Cherokee you'd know this song is crap. It has not one Cherokee word in it. WE go to water and pray. These bitches are singing about something else.
Shuddup Terri! You yoneg.
+Steven Osburn - A lot of people have Native American ancestry in this country. You obviously are very full of yourself to judge others. Arrogance is not the native way, is it? So clearly you don't honor your own culture by insulting others.
Superbe ! Quelle puissance !
Beautiful song. I find myself singing it throughout the day.
If u r native be true it's not music from a white woman
This is one of my favorites. Rita just can sing this song like nobody's business.
nor i; i'm a Celt! on TURTLE ISLAND, learning native wisdom. love to all who seek true knowledge and spirit path walk!
'tis a blessing to be celtic. I'm doubly blessed to be Welsh and Cherokee.
One of the best songs Rita has ever written, in my opinion. I absolutely LOVE it!!!! I think she bears her soul in this song and shows us through her song who she really is! I love you Rita!!!!

Terri Montgomery you are not a Cherokee, you were not born in Cherokee Nation or near it, you don't speak our language, you're white! Now shut up! Ꮭ ᏣᎳᎩ ᎪᎳᎩ ᏂᎨᏒᎾ
why are you a dog shouting at good people here ? cherokee, not cherokee, let's now forget about your racist crap.
@@terrimontgomery9723Cherokee has no written language.

This is by far my favorite song that Rita has ever written! She lets us see her Native Soul! This song is the best ever!!! Thank you Rita for writing this song, it lets us see the Native Soul you have, and it's become an anthem for people that have mixed heritage! Thank you, it's beautiful!!!
She has no Indian blood.
May we never forget our heritage and our ways Mitakuye Oyasin we are all related
I am 1/8 Cherokee Indian from my father side of the family tree. I am very proud to be part of Cherokee Indian. This song reminds me of my Cherokee of my people. I wish I have learn to speak the Cherokee language!!! It does remind me of my people who was on the Trails of Tears. How they suffer a lot of pain & heart ship during that time. I feel they should leave our people alone during that time. Let them keep their land!!!! The white man just took over our land!!! The white man just treat us like dirt.
+Linda Dougherty Linda you still can learn the Cherokee Language, all you have to do is live among them. I came from Germany and did not speak the Language and I have learned from that.Someday after I will retire I will go to South Dakota to live with the Natives. And you Linda can as well.I know what you are saying even though I am white however I always felt for the Native Americans whom have been not treated right.I know this people took your free land wants all the Natives have roamed and have build Cities and it makes me sick where the Native Americans have been put in to Reservations with little land which they used to have.I feel for you Linda, hope we can meet some day and you always should be proud of your Heritage, Love Reiny
Don't get a nose bleed.

They have been singing since 1970; they've only gotten better and more authentic, true to their roots. I love how they harmonize; ; I was surprised how long Priscilla's hair is, it's like rita and she changed Hair length; any way, love them!
