    Thanks for the detailed review, Stacy. That's great info. I think back to our first "RV" trip 30 years ago when we had a brand new VW Pop-up Van and went from NAS Alameda, CA to Oceania, VA for my next assignment. I spent weeks with a Rand McNally atlas and the AAA campground guide, plus dividers, highlighters, and a legal pad, to plan our vacation/PCS move. The resources available now are amazing. Our great trip included a collision with a bison in Yellowstone National Park. Bison 1, VW 0.

    Been a while since I commented. I am now a blue ID holder. Things are going great. When we met at Ft Sam Houston, you suggested RV trip wizard. Thank you so much I use it to plan my routes. I have Mayra doing research as we drive due to spontaneous decisions along the route. We just added a new grandbaby to the family and continue to love the RV lifestyle. Continue doing good videos. You are still my favorite retired military RVer couple.

    So RV Trip Wizard only works online and the app RV Life now works with RV Trip wizard and can be used as your GPS. The nice thing is they now have RV Safe routing so you can avoid those areas that you can't be in based on your size and weight. The only drawback at this point is it is in beta still but seems to work pretty well. Also, they both do cost but as far as routing and planning there really isn't anything better. Everyone else just has a piece where these 2 options puts it all together. Thanks for the info in your video, great job!

    For me, planning is always the most difficult part of any trip (say "hello" to my little friend ADHD!). That's 1 reason we usually just go with the flow. But 2 years ago we spent most of the summer touring around the Great Lakes area and I learned something...those people up north love to camp!! I had to book everything well in advance and trying to coordinate everything had me in tears. A program like this would have come in very handy. Thank you for all the info...really enjoy your videos.

    Another spot on review Stacy. My first experience with RV Trip Wizard frustrated me until I paid attention to all the features and the little idiosyncrasies of the app. The one thing I had not discovered (because I have only had an opportunity to plan 2 trips so far) were the filter options for park types, etc. Now I know thanks to this review of yours. Very much appreciate you putting this video together and sharing how you plan your routes. 👍👍😊

    We currently use the free RVParky App for trip planning but plan on trying out RV Trip Wizard soon because we want something we can use on our laptop PC. We have also heard good things about it. Thanks for a great informative video! My spouse got rather irate when she found out recently that the expensive RV Atlas sold by Camping World did not protect us from low bridges. We have even found that AllStays is far from having all low clearances in its database. We will be curious to see how good RV Trip wizard is.

      I used RV trip wizard while planning a trip (that ultimately didn't happen). My concern was low bridges and RVTW lays it out for you. While adding each stop to your trip you can look at the map and the yellow diamonds will show up. Zoom into the map to see the bridge heights. All of mine were on alternate roads (not major highways) so it wasn't an issue for me. But, it is helpful to see the bridge heights for someone that has to jump off a major roads. It is well worth the money.

    Hey! I know y’all tend to prefer to military campgrounds but if you haven’t been, Butler TN is a beautiful place. Not a city. It’s mountain rural beauty. We recently went. To us, it put Gatlingburg to shame. We stayed at Roan Creek Campground. It is a private but they are very set on keeping it as rustic as possible but it has full hookup, bath house(really nice), and they are very reasonable priced. Just wanted to share this with you. It’s close to Boone, NC and Bristol and tons of other awesome places to explore as well as close to grocery stores and delicious restaurants. We are getting ready to buy a camper and we will for sure be going back! Hope to meet y’all one day! We are both veterans as well. Army and Navy.

    Thanks for putting this together, Stacy. I don't know if it was you or another channel that I'd seen the Google maps tip before but I was happy to see you go through adding points of interest on there as well. RV Trip Wizard looks awesome. I disagree with Vance Keaton that doing all of this is a hassle. What's a hassle is flying by the seat of one's pants and not knowing where you need to be along the way from your start point to your final destination point. But them, maybe I'm just a little bit OCD when it comes to not liking unpleasant surprises along the way that could influence whether I considered the trip in its entirety to be an enjoyable one or otherwise. Thanks for the tutorial; you did an awesome job of it! Safe travels, y'all!

    Years ago I used Delorme Street Atlas GPS. A tremendous feature was the ability to enter your preferred milage and/or time limit for the day. It allowed you to divide a long trip up into 300 mile legs, or 5 hour legs, etc. Is there an online site or program that does that? Planning a 4000 mile trip next year and would like to have a planner that automates some choices for daily destinations. Thanks!

Since you are in the New England area would you consider doing a video on the route you took to get there? We are headed that way from Tennessee and are in a 40ft DP. I am a newbie to 'RV Trip Wizard' and have a LOT to learn about it, so please pardon my ignorance with these questions - How do I setup the map to "show" the amount of miles I would like to travel per day? For example, say I want to travel 500/day and see about where I will end up (no circles at all on my map). I have tried & tried, but no luck. As for campgrounds, when you find a campground along your route that you want to stop at and you add it in - at what point do you actually call the campground to make the reservation? I'm sure I'll have more questions, but that's it for now.

I wish there were enough CGs out there we didn’t have to make reservations but that is a dream world now. As far as reservations go have you found it’s the weekends and specifically the holiday weekends that require reservations? We need to do some mods to our 5er to make her better for boondocking so we can take advantage of Harvest Host and others. Thanks for putting this information out. It will definitely be helpful.

    Very good and informative video. I also use RV Trip Wizard, and sometime get info from Allstays, and RVParky. You really showed me some good stuff about google maps I did not know, which is helpful. Love your channel, and watch a lot of it. Another I watch is Changing Lanes and they just released one on Trip Planning also. The one thing RV Trip Wizard does not do yet is validate a route for you weight. Hopefully they will add that soon, but Changing Lanes covered in their Video how they get around that, they reviewed a Standalone GPS system which does route planning and takes into account the specs of the RV, including weight. Little pricy, but they have a link to the best price I have found, and one of the things I like about it is it does multiple things, not just GPS navigation. It integrates with your RV Bluetooth and and play music, and many other features. Its actually a android tablet, so you can install any app from the appstore on it. Anyway, you might check it out as I also recently saw you video "To heavy for the bridge". :) "czcams.com/video/kvifp-Ldr2A/video.html" You should be able to export from RV Trip Wizard direct to that unit.
    One thing I did not see in your video on RV Trip Wizard, you can send you trip plan also to Google Maps 2 ways. You can export it to GPX file and in the Google maps make a new "MyMap" and import it. You can also installed RV Trip Wizards app on the phone or tablet called "RV LIFE" and set that up to access your RV Trip Wizard account and it will allow you to call up a trip and push it right to Google Maps on that phone or tablet.

    Great video! You covered - extremely well - the process & tools you use to plan out your routes.
    My wife & I have been full timing since July 2018 in our 38' 2005 Winnebago Adventurer, starting out in southern California, spending the winter months in Florida and then working our way up the East coast. We are currently in Bar Harbor, ME, having been here for a month as we love the area. We spent the 1st 2 weeks in one of the Acadia National Park campgrounds, and then we found a very affordable (and accessible - 1st come, 1st served only) private park just 2.5 miles from the Acadia Visitor Center.
    We only started watching you last nite, and immediately subscribed as we wanted to learn more about you guys, and about your boondocking experiences in New England. Prior to coming to New England we were a bit apprehensive about RVing in this region due to many other comments we came across in our research about lack of public lands, lack of RV parks and high cost of available RV parks. However - having come here have to say that there are far more places to stay than we thought, and with a little effort one can find very affordable options. Yes - some parks like the local KOAs can charge over $100/nite here in peak season, but we were able to stay in the N.P. campground for ~$19/nite (using Senior Lifetime Pass, but there are no hookups). Even in the RV park we are currently in our stay is unlimited and their rate is $34.30/nite (water & electric) - and it is the closest RV park to Acadia and Bar Harbor (a tourist zoo right now). But one quickly escapes the crowds upon entering the park and doing one of its numerous hikes or biking on the carriage trails (the best biking in the world!)
    I have been using Allstays and Google Maps for our route planning, but I am glad that you told me about RV Trip Wizard as it looks very useful. In my planning I find (in particular) that using Google Maps Satellite and Street views really help in determining how RV campground sites look - to get an idea of space and even dips / hills. Have used several times for our few Walmart stays to determine the best roads to enter/exit their parking lots as well as see if other RVs are there and the best places to park our RV. Same for fuel stops. Have avoided a few gas stations after looking at their lot layout and determining that while we may be able to pull up to a gas pump - there was no way to pull through and drive out (we cannot backup when towing our toad). For parks (most National and State parks) which require a specific site reservation I find this is invaluable to check out the sites ahead of time for both access and site size (using Google Satellite view).
    I was also very interested to hear about your Battle Born battery learning curve. I too recently removed our 5 lead acid batteries and installed 300 amps of LiFePO4 batteries, monitored by the same Victron BMS as you have. And I agree - It is a real learning experience. One thing you may want to consider is increasing the size of your converter (but have not yet watched all your videos so not sure what size you have). Since you have 600 amps of batteries to charge up you need to have a high output converter to help all those batteries charge up faster. Our Progressive converter will charge our batteries at ~45 amps/hr - so if we have used 180 amps of our 300 it takes ~ 4 hours to charge up. But we also have a solar system - which can charge up to ~20+ amps/hr in good sunlight. But the problem - especially in New England - is many RV sites are wooded. This is great for privacy and shade to help keep the summer heat down, but does not give us much of a solar charge. I do have 1 remote 120watt panel I can move around the campsite to try and capture the sunlight where it hits, but it alone is only good for 5 - 7 amps of charging. But solar really can help - especially out West - where you can get better sun exposure. Anyway - need to watch more our your videos to learn more about your upgrade.
    From here we plan on heading over to New Hampshire (White Mts and then Lake Winnipesaukee) in a few days. Hopefully we get to meet you guys on the road so we can share some stories! Thanks again for the great route planning advice.

      @todayissomeday  Před 5 lety

      I agree with you! You can find places that are reasonable if you are will to sacrifice a few amenities. We are fine with boondocking and dont need anything fancy. For us it is more about the location we get to explore along the way. Thanks for the tip on the campgrounds!
      Glad you found us. Have a great time in the New England area. We cant wait to get back up there.

    Not sure if you are still tracking this video, but I have a question. My wife and I bought a travel trailer last spring in preparation for our pending retirement, and have made 5 trips in it so far. We used Waze to plan our routes and discovered that it is more than happy to route you on single lane country roads and across very scary raised railroad crossings. How does RV Trip Wizard do with these issues. Enjoyed your video.

      Waze is designed for cars and fastest route. RV Trip Wizard has our RV info in it and routes us accordingly based on our size and weight. We only use it for planning, not routing, Check out "Our Epic Field Trip" as they use it for routing,

    I have a question about trip wizard. Does it show where you will need to refuel? I like having a general idea where I will need to buy fuel so I can search ahead of there for availability and price. We have found sometimes it saves money to refuel up to 50 mile before we'll need to can can is 10-30 cents a gal. and when buying 100+ gal, that adds up.

    • @SHalto142
      @SHalto142 Před 5 lety

      Yes. If you have told the program your tank size, average fuel consumption, and how much is left in reserve, then the program will place an icon along your route where you really need to find a fuel station. When you add fuel at that point, if you tell how much fuel you added, the icon will move further along your route for your next fuel-up.

    • @SHalto142
      @SHalto142 Před 5 lety

      As I'm planning, I like to use several different apps to find gas stations (cheap gas, google maps, RV Trip Wizard itself, etc) and will add my choice to RV Trip Wizard. That's where I will add how much gas I bought, when I get there in order to get the icon moved further down the itinerary.

    I'm new to RV Trip Wizard and I'm trying to find POI's such as waterfalls, lighthouses, scenic overlooks, local attractions, etc. I don't see a category under POI's that I can select. As long as I have the name, I can select it but I'm sure there are other POI's along my route that I don't know about. Am I asking too much of the program and that my request isn't possible? I'm sure I'm not the only person looking for these. Any suggestions? Thank you!! Safe travels & happy camping! Tony & Monica's Plan B, Michigan
