For some, this will be a Reeling in the Years moment to those that remember travelling on an early morning commuter departure from Cork to Cobh and back in the days of regular loco-hauled operations using cravens coaches. We will depart circa 08:30hrs to Cobh with a Light Engine (LE) running ahead of the train which upon arrival in Cobh, will then haul our train back to Cork. A photo stop is planned at Glounthaune on the outward run and Carrigaloe on the return.
Departing Carrigaloe, we will now run non-stop through Cork and on up to Mallow. At Mallow, our locomotive will run around the train and prepare to depart to Killarney at 10:25am. There will be time at Mallow for photographs.
Running non-stop to Killarney, we will arrive there at 11:10am. A swift run around of our locomotive will have us prepared for an 11:35am departure back to Mallow. We advise passengers to stay within the confines of the station at Killarney during this time.
A brief photo stop at Banteer and we will then run to Mallow to set down our passengers on the Cork Area ticket, before then stopping at both Limerick Junction and then Thurles Bi-Directional platform in order for an express passenger train to overtake . Time will be afforded for photographs at both of these stations.
We will stop additionally at Portarlington to set down, before running non stop to Dublin Connolly. As we will arrive in the early afternoon back at Dublin Connolly, we will then take an express return run out the Great Northern Railway as far as Dundalk where our locomotive will run around before returning to Dublin Connolly to conclude our second and final day.
