The irony is, places like Japan and Korea grew up on classic western movies from the 80s and 90s, inspiring them to make their own. Now, they base their own films with that kind of quality, while we have decided it's better to pander and lecture than entertain. I wish them all the best.

Exactly 80s pop culture is and was huge here in Japan it caused so many insperations in both movies and manga. Only hollywood is pushing this woke nonses over plot and story. Bollywood, Korea and Japan are destroying Hollywood.

YES!! That's why I've been enjoying so much more of their media nowadays. Manga, Anime, Korean Drama AND Action. I remember an older movie, Korean, called War of the Arrows and the action and cinematography there is just CHEF'S KISS. If you ever want to watch a movie centered around archers, WOTA is absolutely a must watch.

The philosophical and psychological depth in Japanese and Korean media is really hardcore. The western problem is pushing propaganda. There’s a lot of subliminal messages in Asian media, but they don’t try to push anything as the “right way”, every story is just another experience.

looking for a good MANLY Korean series to watch? i recommend Taxi Driver. they're a group vigilantes that hides themselves in a Taxi company that will work with you if you want vengence when the justice system failed to give you justice. NO ROMANCE, great characters, great villains, great story, and great action. interesting fact that the show is based on REAL crimes that happened in Korea.

My first Korean Drama was on Netflix called The Great Doctor aka Faith. From then on I was hooked. Some notables for me are Strong Girl Bong-Soon, The Tunnel, Bad Guys, Black, Abyss, and Stranger.
One of the things I really like about Korean dramas is their mixture of different genres in the same show. As an example Strong Girl Bong-Soon has Super-hero Action, Comedy, Romance and Crime Drama.

It should be known that Eastern writing is fundamentally different from Western writing. Western writing is almost always built upon a central conflict that must be resolved. Eastern writing isn't, and is instead about taking the audience along with what happens.
This is why Japan can have so many slice-of-life franchises where there is no conflict to be had (ARIA, Yotsuba&!, Non Non Biyori, Yuru Camp, Nichijou, etc.), or why you can have so many franchises that have the same general premise yet each have their own individual flavor (Isekai in general).
Instead of focusing on a conflict that must be resolved, the Eastern formula is: Premise + Characters = Let's find out!
