  • I found an abandoned camp while I was hiking along the East Fork Trail in the San Gabriel Mountains. I solo tent camped along the San Gabriel River.

    Great video, I was there early December. The next day my feet were a little achy because of all the rocks but the tranquility and beauty of this place makes it a great hike.

      Thank you 😊 and yes I know the struggle. My feet sometimes hurt as well after hiking around here. I definitely attribute that to the rocks. But it’s all worth it!

      I understand. It can be a tough hike. Hope you got some kind of satisfaction out of video since you can’t do the the trail.

    That abandoned camp site is creepy! Are we going to find out about a missing person in the news soon?

    • @SnailTrailAdventures
      @SnailTrailAdventures  Před 2 lety

      I hope not. I hope it was a prospector who left the stuff for some reason.

    I use to gold prospect up there, that was not an abandoned camp site, that was an active albeit messy prospectors camp site, most likely they were working up or down stream, or depending where you were even up on the hill. I always pitched a tent .. and would leave my camp site and go up or down stream quite a ways sometimes to dig and run my sluice, then head back to camp right before sunset. I enjoyed your video .. brings back a lot of good memories.

      @SnailTrailAdventures  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah I kind of was figuring it might’ve just been a gold prospectors camp that he left. And yes you are correct. It’s the trail to the bridge to nowhere. Love the trail besides all the graffiti.

      That’s so cool ya the last time I was there we saw a lot of prospectors camping out by the water like deeper in and some closer to the road I wish I would of got to stay the night there when I went last time so freaking cool how was the food

    New Sub. You shot the beauty of the surrounding nature, and had the right focus on the trail. Great video! Can I ask you about your gear loadout? - What was the name and the R-value of that sleeping pad you used? - You don't skimp on shelter - as your Nemo is proof of that!

    • @SnailTrailAdventures
      @SnailTrailAdventures  Před 2 lety

      Sorry for late response. I appreciate your compliments. The sleeping pad I used is the Nemo Tensor (regular/wide) insulated. The R-value is listed at 4.2. I love both the nemo tent and sleeping pad. The sleeping bag I used was a Kelty. Thinking of switching to quilt some day.

  • @BeaglesBackcountryAdventures

    That was a weird find.. I tend to think the worst.. but probably was just an irresponsible camper. Gorgeous canyon along the San Gabriel River! Cool change of canopy there in that Aspen (I think..) grove.. pretty.

    • @SnailTrailAdventures
      @SnailTrailAdventures  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, I think it might’ve been a gold prospector who abandoned his stuff for whatever reason. Hopefully it wasn’t something sinister.

    Why not just boil water first lol

      Not sure I understand the question. Are you suggesting I boil it and then filter boiling hot water?
