I cruised on the Mariner of the Seas a couple of years ago after getting it's revamp during the pandemic & I LOVED it as well. I got upgraded to a Jr. Suite for a 5 day cruise by myself. It was awesome, no issues with service, but then there was only 1600 passengers on board out of a possible 4200, so I was able to do so much more with less crowds. I would cruise on this ship again, but I really want to cruise on an Oasis class & I hear that Allure & Symphony will be offering shorter (3-5 days) cruises next year, so I'll be checking that out.

definitly. RC advertises their high tier ships so often that people see a budget lvl cruise, maybe a 2 or 3 day trip on a smaller class maybe, and their let down because it doesnt have the slides and bumper cars and all that. My first cruise was on a smaller budget class, and i was pretty bored on ship tbo. less activities, and i didnt have drink packages so i couldnt even drink much. 2nd cruise i took a oasis class and i never ran out of stuff to do. However if the destination is more important for you, and you want a cheap charter, the older ships are perfect

Quantum of the Seas to Alaska August 2022 was my first cruise and I loved it. Probably because the weather was appropriate at each port. Yes there was some port cancellation because of mechanical issues that they couldn’t redo for a few months in 2022.

I was on Quantum of the Seas for my birthday last December from Brisbane and I absolutely LOVED it. The staff were friendly and helpful, there was always lots to do and the food in the Windjammer was great, and plenty of it. The food in the main dining room was a bit sad but I only went twice to that. Embarkation and Disembarkation was all very well done. The only thing was we missed going to Mystery Island but that was not the fault of the ship, just a combination of tragic events. Other than that it was wonderful and I’m looking forward to my next Quantum cruise in April this year, can’t wait đŸŽ‰â€

we have sailed on 10 different Royal Caribbean ships and what we have learned is that there really isn't a "Best and Worst" but rather, "I liked that ship and how it is run more than this one " opinion. We are not really brand loyal as we have also sailed on NCL and Princess (just went on a 7 day San Fransisco to Victoria BC cruise on the Royal Princess) What we have learned over the years is we dont like the big crowded ships. Some of the lower but larger and newer ones (ex: quantum of the seas) might be rated that way from the fact that they are 1. New, so there is still kinks being worked out, and the positive reviews haven’t really had time to set in yet. And 2. The quantum class ships are meant for a thinner age range than a lot of the larger ships nowadays (ex: oasis class ships) which are just massive and can fit so much stuff, another thing supporting the oasis class ships nowadays it the total redesign of the layouts. A lot of times, they will just be a bit larger or something similar, but the oasis class ships have took that to the extreme. essentially splitting the ship in half and having neighborhoods in the middle of the ship.

I couldn't resist buying stock in Royal Caribbean in 2020 and have enjoyed a 300 percent return on that purchase. In my opinion they are the best. They have a variety of ships and they cannot all be the biggest or newest but it all boils down to what you want on your vacation. The Oasis class can seem a little crowded at the main dining for dinner and on sunny days at the pool in peak season. My favorite classes are the Freedom and Voyager class, but I have no problem booking any of their ships as long as its the right time of year and the right Itinerary.

I am booked on Brilliance but had a choice between Ovation or Brilliance, but choose Brilliance and I am still contemplating if I made the better choice.

I have never been on a Quantum class. My friends did just come back from "Odyssey" though. They said it was not their favorite, they like the Symphony better.
The Brilliance is an older Radiance class. I liked the Radiance I did Alaska and the Mexican west coast on it. Brilliance does not have the Royal Promenade like Explorer it also doesn't have Flow Rider or ice rink. It all boils down to what you want to do on a ship. If you just want to relax Brilliance will likely be an older crowd and not as many kids. Similar to the Jewel. I think I may go on an older Celebrity Summit cruise next. I am expecting a docile crowd that just wants to relax, peace and quiet. @@jacoblas1371

I'm not surprised by the Quantum Class scoring so low. I was not a huge fan of Anthem. The main issue with Quantum class is they were just too crowded felt cramped. The other issue is the only real great outdoor spots on the ship is on the pool deck. The promenade deck doesn't wrap nicely around the ship like other ship designs. I get those ships were designed with cold weather in mind. But the lack of oceanviews on Quantum class just made you feel like RCL forgot about the ocean. Which is why I cruise! To throw Anthem a bone though she was pretty and the solarium and staterooms were great. But to give an example I just booked a New England Cruise and had a choice between Anthem and Liberty both sailing around the same timeframe. I chose Liberty. All the other ships I like and have been cruising since 97 and the Quantum Class is the only class I try to avoid if I can. And no doubt Voyager Class is the sweet spot in terms of both size and passengers. Big ship amenities without being too crowded. That being said though I slammed quantum class the worst thing than quantum class is no cruise at all.

My wife and I are researching for our first cruise and we’ve been flip flopping between Mariner and Harmony. I thought this video would easily settle the debate but unfortunately they are right there together! I like Harmony for all the extra things to do but my wife is preferring Mariner because it looks like it would be less crowded and more laid back.

more people on a ship doesn't necessarily = more crowding. In fact, Harmony felt less crowded than Independence to me. Mariner is a great ship. We have been on her twice and going again in August and again in October. Either ship you mention are fantastic and you will have a great time either way. Enjoy!

I sailed on Navigator in March 2020 and she looked great to me at the time. Honestly I think Mariner and Navigator are the nicest Voyager class in the fleet. I sailed on Mariner twice last time was past November. My opinion was Navigator was a nicer ship than Mariner but the service on Mariner was better than Navigator so they were kinda tied. And by no means am I saying the service on Navigator was bad, just Mariner was slightly better on the service side. Both were better than Explorer but Explorer was still good and I would easily book that ship again too.. The balconies on Navigator and Mariner are also different tham the first three Voyager class ships built they aren't all metal and porthole like they are on Voyager, Explorer and Adventure.

What we have found after 17 RCL cruises the point in time in which you are on a particular ship can make a big difference. Crews change, how any area of the ship operates at any given time changes, staff, including CEOs etc. change and policies change. This does not even get into food which is so dependant on suppliers and areas of the world a ship is in and is highly subjective. We've been on every class RCL has and our like or dislike of any ship usually comes down to the crew. We've had great and we've had not so great. Most have been outstanding (only one time were we disappointed in the crew) and it's why we never cruise any other company! NEVER pick an RCL ship based on a review! You just may miss the best cruise you'll ever have!

@@cruisemummy Yes, that's my sense. You've provided a great mainstream view of what's "best" but it's not going to fit for all of us. I think it's important to present that context. Otherwise, it comes across as "Here's what's best" as if it were an objective measurement.
Personally, I detest the glitzy style of many cruise ships, including the one I'm booked on for September. But then I also detest Las Vegas and, when I've been there for conferences, have felt a need to escape after a day or three. I’ve actively avoided cruises for most of my life. Now, at age 60, I’m signed up for my first one, largely because my wife and I have a son with a health condition that prevents the kind of travel I most enjoy, which is to far off places where English isn’t spoken -- without any sort of solid plan for where I’m going to lay my head for the night or find my next meal. In other words, total adventure. I've been invited into people's homes and lives. For me, that's travel.
We’ll be on Ovation of the Seas. Hopefully it will be fun. If nothing else, I hope my son will love it and I’ll love his enthusiasm. Plus, who doesn't love eating? There will be tons to eat. I'll try snails for the first time. So there's that. :0)
We booked a balcony to ensure we’re not stuck on deck or in parts of the ship that are crowded or unappealing. If nothing else, we’ll have our cabin and our balcony and a view of Alaska.

This is why you can't trust reviews. You don't know people's motivations. It may have nothing to do with the ship.
As Matt from Royal Caribbean Blog always says there is not a bad ship in the fleet. Not every ship is designed for every passenger. Make sure you do your research to ensure the ship you're booking has the amenities and venues you want. Not every ship has waterslides, etc.
And even on the "best" of ships, you can have a bad experience. A noisy neighbor, rough seas, missed port, food you don't like, etc. And, not all complaints are the cruise line's fault.
This video is for entertainment purposes only. Don't base your cruise planning on this. It's an interesting anecdote, but not really true.

  • @davidfence6939

People's MDR concerns crack me up. Even for the price, you're not paying for much more than a chain sit down restaurant in price in the States. So expecting 4/5 star dining for roughly $12-15 USD a meal is silly. Plus it's an MDR like ALL cruise ships. It's mass produced. If you want the top quality food you have to pay extra and do specialty.
I'd say you need to look at the number of reviews for each ship. Wonder has so few in comparison to others. Also the fact is most people write nothing when happy and complain when upset. It's why you should take ALL reviews with a grain of salt.

Quantum of the Seas - WORSE Ship ever!!! - It wasn’t about the excursion it’s more about:
    - Ship design: Everyone is just channeled into 1 narrow central strip where the shops are giving a cramped atmosphere
    - food: the quality has slipped to below that of carnival cruise, but they charged premium
    - menu items: MDR menu was the same as the Windjammer buffet, just served on a plate. Why bother?
Royal Night: No lobster tail to be seen. half the menu was just a repeat of what was offered on French and British night.
    - crowds: it’s a bigger ship but it’s full of cabins. Staff has problems handling the bigger crowds. It’s always chaos trying to get seatings in the dining room or any where
    - quiet spaces: hardly any, 4 music venues blasting their tunes into the promenade because they are so close to one another. Also why is the library next to 270 theatre? It’s never quiet because there’s always events on there
    - Staffing: You can see there’s less staff, who are clearly over worked and tired. I’ve booked a $50 airport transfer, requesting a departure time ONLY to be told I can’t change it. A “too bad so sad” attitude to a service that I paid for. And there was a delay and my transfer ended up leaving 10min before my requested time anyway.
    - Cleanliness: You can see in public spaces that the cleanliness standards have slipped. Also 7 day cruise, no towel change? That’s the same policy as a 3 star road-side motel.
Has Royal Caribbean standard slipped this low? If so, how can you justify charging this price? I get the same level on a Carnival or P&O cruise.

This is a general question regarding all of RCI's ships: WHY is Starbucks and Ben and Jerry's the only options available? I love my coffee, but will NOT spend a dime on either of these vendors on any RC ship, as I am offended by both. Both companies were woke before it was so fashionable and Starbucks has a history of abusing the policing agencies in the cities where they are located, (not to mention, their coffee is swill!), and B and J's spends more time preaching to us then selling their product. There are other, better, coffee and ice cream companies out there and I wonder why you haven't chosen one of them? I love RCI and I am "royal loyal", but will NEVER spend ANY money on these companies' products.
