  • After covering more than 3,000 miles and performing a host of mechanical upgrades in our 1981 Suburban, it was time to turn our attention to one of the most overlooked aspects of any older vehicle - the interior. To address this, Mike, Elana, and the crew head to Huntington Beach, California where they met up with Gabe Flores and Craig Maiorana at the headquarters of Classic Industries, one of the largest resources for classic vehicle restoration and performance parts.
Here they went about the business of disassembling, cleaning, fixing, and restoring Big Green’s forty-year-old interior by way of some new interior panels, sound deadening, trim pieces, as well as some new cabin flooring, which helped to ensure that our 1981 Chevrolet Suburban was good for another 40 years on the road.
The no-reserve charity auction of Big Green sold on Hemmings Auctions to benefit SEMA Cares: www.hemmings.c...

It made the Suburban so much for fun to drive - plus, cruising at highway speeds was now a piece of cake.

Seems kind of like a downgrade using those door panels instead of restoring some factory ones with SEM. But I do have a question: Does the butyl rubber sound insulation really block much heat? Which part blocks the heat, the aluminum?
