I wanted to create a really natural scape for my Neon Tetra. This somewhat represents the murky rivers and streams that these fish breed in during flooding of the forest floor in the Amazon. The leave then release tannins as we have replicated here.

Big fan from India
Is there any chance you could do a British/Irish country stream aquarium. I've looked online and can't find anything like that using fish that would be found in that environment. It would be different from all your others (I am a huge fan of your heavily planted ones like the Amazon or African river scapes especially with the not aquarium plants in them as well) and something that it seems no one else has done.
Great tank as always and I rather like the water colour. Reminds me a bit of sepia photos in tone.
Dude MD you do an excellent job breaking these builds out into simple cheap and easy steps. Love your content man.
Hey MD! Great video man! Where do you get your tank backgrounds?
this is by far the simplest tank you have made and proof that sometimes less is more. looks awesome đ
My favorite blackwater tank you have done so far. Simple, elegant, and very natural. Great work, MD.
Itâs so cool/adorable to see them get back comfortable in their new surroundings.
Your last neon tetra black water was a bit crowded with hardscape ⊠This one is simple and beautiful.
Lol itâs what he likes not you đ
@@brandisdreamland he said he wanted to try something with smaller branches
Not really lol
@@brandisdreamland he's just saying what he thinks no need to be so defensive
@@minajqueen2139 not being defensive stating a fact đ„±
MD please share more about your water change system! Iâve seen almost every single one of your videos since the beginning and Iâm always filled with envy when I see how easy new set-up fills and smooth water changes go for you. Please help me to stop lugging these massive buckets! đ
Forreal!
Buy a python, hook it up to your sink
He made the hose himself unless you can make a hose for your kitchen sink the only thing that will work is buy an electric water pump itâs like 20 dollars saves time from using a manual one and then you gotta dump it the old school way lol but he made that hose so it wouldnât be the same for one of use unless would could make it
Get a Python, or a Top Fin syphon hose system. They are back savers, and you can hook them up to your faucet to refill the tank when your done cleaning.
@@brandisdreamland you can buy an adapter if your faucet has an aerator. Just unscrew the aerator and thread the adapter in, hook a hose up and go. Idk how everyone else's house is set up but for me a hose is just impractical and I agree a cheap pump works great. I use a "pond" pump and it moves 90 gph. Works great and I just store it in the tank itself as a source of water flow across the bottom. Works great for keeping detritus off the floor and in the column for the filter to catch and then readily available for water changes and drip acclamation (spend the extra few bucks and get an adjustable)
Oh wow, I love this. So simple but so dramatic. I prefer the light background so everything is quite visible despite the darker water.
kuhli loaches would be a great addition to this tank, ive never seen them in any pf your builds before
Wow, so far from all blackwaters you have made, for me this one the best no doubt!!!!!!
It's amazing how beautiful neon tetras look in black water!
Beautiful aquascape! I just love the blackwater style!
This tank is enchanting. As amazing and beautiful as your planted tanks are, this just draws you in with intrigue. Love it
Glad you readjusted that middle piece, it was doing my head in! Looks perfect. scape is so natural
Never thought Iâd see a plant-less MD video
Would be super cool to see a submerged light coming from a black water tank
Sunday build videos are a great way to end the weekend. I love when you upload any day of the week, but Sunday's are great since it ends the weekend on a positive note!
Great build. Must admit the Blackwater look is growing on me. I think I'll give this a go in my community tank
Gorgeous set up! So simple, yet elegant. Killer job, MD!
Another great video, MD!
This is absolutely wonderful! Blackwater tanks are some of my favorite tanks, and I'm so thrilled you went ahead with this! I think you'll find your neons (who were already beautiful!) to be more vibrant in the coming days!
Lovely scape!
Really nice simple blackwater scape, great job MD đ
Watching these videos makes me happy
Black water tanks are so cool! Love this!
Oh I love it so, so much! I love these reduced, really dark black water tanks and the neon tetras seem to agree with me. They look splendid in it. Fantastic!
Just elegant and simple.
đâ€đ
This is what tetras really need. Thanks.
Love it!!! I actually just started collecting items for a black water thank for my daughters room. Lightly planted with some orangey/red plants and featuring some electric blue rams and neon tetras! Her favorite color is blue so the orange of the water and plants makes them pop so beautifully. Thank you for the inspo and sign to move forward with it!
Youre bussing on the tannins, go tannins and neons together make heaven
Love the looks of your aquarium builds. You have a very special touch. Very inspirational. Thanks for making the videos.
Keeping fish for over 45 years love your videos keep up the great work Amazing đ
Gorgeous.
About ready for bed then I get a notification MD posted a vid. Def gotta watch before I go to sleep! Much love from California! Keep up with the awesome tanks and Merch loving my Cory and discus sweaters đ„
Me too mate
This is a insane coincidence
@@babyphat255 whatâs the coincidence?
@@_MetalPhantom this posted when i want to sleep
Awesome job again đ
Looks awesome.
Wow you actually resisted adding plants đ€Ł I wouldn't have had the same will power đ
Can't believe not one single plant! You're evolving đđ
I received my merch!! Thank MD! Much love brother.....
Oh I love this aqua scape it is so cool good work md.
I love blackwater aquarium!
Simple. Sweet.
Very cool. I really enjoyed that.
That's a nice looking set up MD đ
Wow! Awesome! Love this â€ïž
Super cool!
Who knew spilling your tea into the tank could look so cool!
Really like blackwater tanks, something mistical about them . Simple, yet beautiful.
Aaahhh! No plants oh I feel faint. Oh it's OK I've got over it. Great tank it's nice to see you think of the best natural environment for the fish.
the transformation from light to dark.... woah
This one really inspired me
It turned out great, a real biotope!
Amazing đ€© can't resist thinking of adding one more centerpiece fish.
So Beautiful
Absolutely fantastic scape. Want me turn my cube in to black water nowđ. Love itđ
I love all of your work, I have so many questions for you, you inspire me ! Now Iâll have to go and get another aquarium started lol.
Looking good! I definitely recommend more and more varied botanicals. I don't know what you have access to, but different types of leaves and seed pods would do wonders for this set up. you can even crunch some of the leaves up a bit if you use larger leaves like cinnamon. Also a few tiny anubias hidden in here would look great!
I really like this
Wow beautiful
Was just thinking i may do a blackwater :'D Thanks MD
I'm really glad you did another black water scape. I Really like this one. I tried one 20yrs ago. It didn't work out. Know that I seen you do this one maybe I'll give it a go again. Thanks.
Best notification to see first thing Sunday morning!
your an artist mate, beautiful natural looking
"It's not perfect." * LOOKS PERFECT *
OK THAT WAS COOL!!! đđŒđđŒđđŒ
Cool !
Wow this is a super cool video Iâve never seen this tank type before!
Yeah I like it mate
Beautiful tank! Definitely an improvement from your previous blackwater tank. Seems much more lively! I'd love to see you try a scape like this with a few hardy plants in it! I have a blackwater setup for my betta and the plants are actually growing really well! Anubias, s. repens, AR mini, have all been doing well in my blackwater tanks.
I never thought I would see MD do a scape without plants!!! Looks great though đ
Greetings from Greece. As expected another amazing build. Watching your videos inspired me to try my first planted build for a planted betta tank. Been watching your videos like a maniac getting ideas and becoming more and more jealous XD gonna try it soon . Wish me luck :D now ill go watch more of your builds to get some ideas :D
I recommend floaters for preventing algae and easy fast growing plants like limnophila, rotala and pearl weed
@@fordy19 thanks for the advice, i was thinking of a combination of some anubias and java fern, some cryptos, and some Ceratophyllum demersum and/or Mayaca fluviatilis.. for my floaters i was thinking about Phyllanthus fluitans Floating and for my ''grass'' Echinodorus Tenellus.. what do you think about those ?
I'm not a lover of the blackwater look but I do appreciate good art when I see it. Loving your videos. :)
There is something about blackwater that is so mystical and magical
Green Neons in there would blow your mind! đ And Marginatus Pencils
this is the best setting for bettas
This is beautiful, imagine a larger scale of this! Next tank! Wink đ
3-1-22, The blackwater aquarium is beautiful. I am going to try it.
I'm just commenting for the algorithm so other folk get to see your awesome tanks.
beautiful fish
beautiful tank
blackwater scape
without any plants
Neon tetra đ
I honestly liked the look of the tank with just the driftwood in it and nothing elseđ made me want to go get another tank and just load it up with pieces of driftwood
looks like a wooden hammock. i like the set up with the sticks
amazing content m8
So, question. Without the plants, you will have to do a lot more water changes than typical, right? Will you need to then boil more botanicals to maintain the level of tannins and pH?
buy black water extract
Won't need many water changes as the filter is fully cycled
@@michaellomax26 that just means that it should not get a build up of ammonia and nitrites, but will still need to keep the nitrates low; plants consume nitrates, but without them the best way to keep them low is through water changes.
@@rachelschildman2327 some plants above the water would solve the problem, like pothos sticking it's roots in or similar
I love this. One day Iâll make a neon black water tank. The family is resistant but they wonât have a choice soon.
Nice
man your aquariums are always so beautiful, im totally doing this. im going to breed my mahachaiensis bettas soon and i have an extra 80 liter tank laying around, im thinking i want to try my first blackwater setup and put all the bettas in there since they are wild bettas they can live together, thanks for the inspiration
My 1 and 3 year old were dancing to the background music lol
I love the leaf litter look. I did it with my 75 gallon. They biodegraded so fast, it would've cost me a fortune to keep up.

Nice tank love your vids want to be like you one day you got to best tanks in the world
Really like this aquarium. I was surprised how well you can see the red on the tetra still. And absolutely shocked that you didn't use a single living plant đČ
Please, show us what evidence you used to determine the tank's nutrients have been depleted. It looked pretty good in the video, though it was obvious you'd seen something that needed to be addressed.
He's a professional fish keeper I don't think he needs evidence if he has done this for years, let's not
@@colin6671 Yes, you are completely right! HE is a professional, and as such could see that the tank's nutrients where depleted (as he said) but I was asking HOW he knew.
Sorry, you were a little offended I asked something.
@@colin6671 the thing is mate, we are not, the reason these guys make videos is to help and inspire, whatâs wrong with someone asking to better themselves through knowledge?
I wonder if the plants are dying back maybe?
@@devvandyke1195 that would probably be it yeah
Like it MD
Omg lmao Iâve never seen so many neons in such a beautiful set up tank! Im used to seeing schools of 10-15- that would have to be at over 35 at least!
The best part about this video is where you cleaned the tank đ” I needed that therapy
super
Looks better with less wood than the ones before. I like this one quite a lot. Makes me want to do one, especially since I canât grown plants
Ike you.

Currently in the middle of major storm event with flooding everywhere and house in a watery shambles - thank you for the much needed distraction!!! Blackwater style is my favourite đ€ Would love to see one of the biggest tanks you have in this style in the future :)
