I'm an American, I've recently been into my ancestry and have traced my heritage only as far back to the 1500s, they lived in Kvong, Ribe, Denmark... Pretty cool to see the area
i have been to Ribe and loved it so much....my first visit was 1994 - and 1996-98 with school students....we stayed 12 days at Ribe Vandrehjem now called Ribe Danhostel..... I am going this Feb 2024 again....I miss and love it so much planning to move there too....I am now in Bornholm it is nice here too. Visit Bornholm.
Ribe is a very nice place. You can feel its age.
It is a nice town...rich in history..i enjoyed your story telling skill/technique,...calm yet captivating
I was looking for options to go to in Denmark this August and Ribe was the first one that got my attention. Seriously thinking of going there, 4 or 5 days. Explore that part of Denmark. It looks lovely! Hopefully the weather will be good.
Ribe is a MUST see if you come to Denmark, I love it soo much.
I agree! :)
The "Night Watchman" had to sing a special tune for each hour during the night (as at start), to show the inhabitants in town, that he was awake and doing his, well actually their job, as I think they mostly walked two men during nights.
Tour of ribe.thank you sharing video.i very like your video
Sjovt at se sig selv i din video, godt nok fra et middelalder marked, de også holder
Getting some Rick Steves Europe vibes here with this video. :) Such rich history is always so interesting.
I love Rick! :)
Adorable peaceful
what a cute town 😍
Enjoyed your family outing. How about a visit to Copenhagen?
We don’t go there often as tourists, since we have family there, but I do have a video on Tivoli! That’s in CPH! ;)
Hej Kelly,
Mange tak for the great tour of Ribe. The old town vibe makes Ribe an interesting place to see. :)
Glad you enjoyed your stay in my childhood town. The actual place, where the Wictches were burned and people hanged, is in the forrest North of the town, but there is not much to, just a hill in the forrest. Next time you are in the town. I would reccomend, since you are an american, to visit the Jacob A. Riis Museum. And if your kids are along, the Ribe Vikingecenter, where you can try to dress, live ect. as a Viking
Riis wrote a book in English about Ribe after he moved to the USA. It is titled The Old Town and was published by Macmillan & Co. in 1909. Grateful to Danish friends who gifted us a copy from that year.
I was in Ribe in 2018, and it was so cool to see all the old buildings and the food there was great too. We also visited Fanø, another great place to see. 🤓👍🏼
Hi Kelly, thanks for sharing your trip! Very nice presentation… would love to visit!
Just finished reading the book, The Year of Living Danishly by Helen Russell. Have you heard about this? She is a fee lance writer from England -
When you go there you want to go live there. One of the best places in Denmark. Lots to see🇩🇰
Hi Kelly you should really take a tour of Søfarts og fiskeri museet in Esbjerg. I believe yoy would find it a great experience and learn a lot of the Danish history of seafairing and fishery
That is a good idea!
Ribe is such a beautiful historical city!
I make a point to visit, whenever I'm down that way! ⭐
hello from Hundested 🌸🌱
You should really try the vikingetræf Moesgaard. It's amazing, a lot of people come from all over the world to participate. And the museum (moesgård museum) there is so amazing, who knew our ancestors where so short. There's great opportunities for campers to camp.

I would love to, but I think that is always on a week when we are traveling. If it weren't during sommerferie, we would be able to do it! ;)
Didn´t anything at all about Ribe. Have heard about it, but that´s all maybe we visit it because of your video.
That’s great! 😊
🇩🇰❤️
HI Kelly I am surprised you didn't mention Jacob A. Riis, who was born in Ribe later emigrated to the US where he became af famous documentarist of the slums in New York
I don’t think he is that famous among the general public in the USA. The country is very large, so what happened in NYC isn’t widely known by all Americans. I never heard of him and since our time was limited, we chose the witch museum instead! 🤷🏼♀️
Who the F……. Is Jacob??. That guy from the bakery 💥🎶
my 10th great grandfather too part in a witch trial under Christian the IV. it is written he tried to defend her character but she was burned nonetheless. sad to see the modern art covering what we're probably beautiful catholic artwork before Luther
We got married there :)
Var det en vegetarlaks du fik?
Så skal jeg vist til Ribe🥰
No. Laks is fish, so... but the Vegan/Vegetarian-friendly restaurant at the end of the video only serves vegetarian food! :)
Ribe my born towen and place of my child houd
as an American what impressed you the most - or what do you like best about Ribe?
I really like the Weis Stue. It was amazing that we could stay there! :) The walking tour with all of the old buildings and of course, the church were also quite amazing. It is just different to see things that are so old.! :)
Danmarks ældste by må dog være Hedeby
Weis stue is not great. They treat they workers like shit, and its overall just bad.
There is a place called Sælhunden which is much better.
I loved it! I talk about it all the time, since the meal was so wonderful!
@My New Danish Life Its not that the Food is bad, I just don't want to support a place that don't care about their workers. I personally worked there and stopped only after 1 month, because the don't give a shit about us. This might have changed but i doubt it.
