    In Poland we call the stuffed cabbage "gołąbki". It's pretty much the same, but we add rice to the meat stuffing, season it only with salt, pepper (and sometimes fried bacon bits) and we serve the whole thing with thick tomato sauce. Here it's a dinner dish. 🙂

      Oh! You guys add rice too 😊 That sounds good! I wanna try the Poland version of stuffed cabbage!

      Same in Bulgaria!!! We add rice too! And no mirin soy etc but we add canned tomatoes 😋😋😋 I am definitely trying yours though! Finally our cabbage is pickled so it’s a bit in the sour side!

      @JapaneseCookingChannel In the Balkans we use pickled fermented cabbage and fill it with rice meat mix then cook it for a long time with a bit of smoked bacon on the bottom of the pot. Traditional meal to cook during the new year's eve

    In the United States, similar cabbage rolls are popular. My wife liked to make them. We also made them in a Middle Eastern way, with fresh tomatoes to add flavor.

      That should be really nice! While making this, I regretted not buying canned tomatoes. Maybe fresh tomatoes are even better!

    Very nice, Sayaka! A dish totally in my taste. Yes, mentaiko and potato is a perfect match and Kewpie mayo is no 1. In Romania cabbage rolls are called sarmale, made of fermented cabbage leaves or wine leaves. In Sweden people make cabbage rolls from fresh cabbage (kåldolmar) and baked in the oven. Both fillings are mixed with rice. Great episode! Arigato.

      You know the most delicious mentaiko place, fukuoka! 😁 Yes, mentaiko and potato combination is our favorite.
      That's so nice to know about Romania and Sweden version of cabbage rolls. I really wanna try those cabbage rolls someday! 😆

    In Italy we have similar cabbage rolls with meat, but we don't add sugar to our broth. The idea for potatoes' salade is really nice, I will try it!

    * Korean-Japanese main dish: cabbage roll with rice *
    Some said frying is easier so zucchini and eggplant are eaten like radish that way with seasoning sauce. (Japanese cooking teacher and me: 🤑, i said i want to learn Japanese cooking thus make my edible experiments feel like Japan-ish) I always admire your sauces. 【Loving potato and Cucumber~💓】

    I love it. Yes, I have noticed that many cultures have their own version of this dish.
    I have a question though, why do you remove the core of the garlic? I have never seen that done before.
    Thank you.

    • @JapaneseCookingChannel
      @JapaneseCookingChannel  Před 7 měsíci

      Thank you!
      About the garlic, this is because the garlic buds tend to burn easily during cooking, and removing them improves the flavor!

    It looks sooo so good 🤤 where I live we do use cabbage but mostly use vine leaves and stuff it with flavored rice, and it's cooked in a sour tomato broth with chunks of vegetables like potato and carrot 🥰

    Can you also make an Introduction how to combine Ichiju Sansai meals? What is autentic tradisjonal Japanese Ichiju Sansai? what is recommended with diffrent flavours? What meals do you use green tea (or japanese teas) in general?
    As i understand it a little, Rice bowl + Miso Soup (of your liking) + hot meal (with souce or fried) + pickles + vegs?
    I dont know how strict Japenese culture is with recipes to be followed correctly etc (like italiens)

    • @JapaneseCookingChannel
      @JapaneseCookingChannel  Před 7 měsíci

      Thanks for your comment!
      Ichiju Sansai are composed of rice as the staple food (like the rice in the video), soup, and three side dishes (a main dish and two side dishes).
      Yes, like you say, the two side dishes can be pickles + vegs. Maybe the main dish would be some kind of meat dish, fish dish, and so on.
      So, to complete Ichiju Sansai, I should've included miso soup in this video 😅 That would be perfect.
      About the green tea, I think most people drink it at snack time or when they take a short break rather than at mealtime.
      Some people drink green tea with their meals, but it is not common at home meals. However, it is common for green tea and other types of tea to be served with meals at sushi restaurants and other restaurants.
      If you have more question about Japanese food or culture, please let me know!

    Can you use Napa cabbage?

    • @JapaneseCookingChannel
      @JapaneseCookingChannel  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yes, I think so! Napa cabbage is probably easier because it doesn't take so much time to become soft. Maybe you need to be careful to use big leaf so the content doesn't come out 😊

    I noticed you use a lot of sugar in your recipes. Is it possible to eliminate sugar products?
