Munich betrayal ? You know that your country would never exist today without France right ? Czech and Slovak never rose against their Austrian masters. Not like the Serbs, the Poles, the Croatians, and even the Hungarians … What you are, it’s thanks to the French and allies blood during World War I . Even during the Napoleonic war, the Bohemians were happy to fulfil the Habsburg ranks and bring their slaves, even when Napoleon proposed to them their own nation. The wake up was in 1919, not before. You and your ancestors have no right to talk about any betrayal.

@@freewal You should learn something about Czechoslovak history before writing about it. Of course the Czechs fought against Austrian tyranny. Firstly during 1618, unfortunately we were defeated in 1620 in battle of White Mountain. Many members of Czech nobility fought against Austrians again in 1740. And during the Napoleonic wars we unfortunately didn't rise up, but it was because of almost 200 years of germanisation. We were still in early phases of our National Rebirth. And then we fought against Austrians in WW1. Have you ever heard about Czechoslovak legions? You should read something about them. They fought in Russia, Italy, France. Many Czechs fought in Serbian army and even in Greek army. And yes I was talking about Munich betrayal, because unfortunately French and British governments betrayed our country and gave Sudetenland to Germany. Even though France swore to defend Czechoslovakia from the Germans. That is definition of betrayal. (Of course I know that many French people wanted to fight against Germany, so I don't blame them, but I blame their government)

Of course it needs to be stated that it reflects the propaganda of that time and that the sayings of the lyrics may not be historically accurate, for instance... Alsace and Lorraine weren't taken away by Germany by force, the annexion was agreed by both States, and France, which was held responsible for the war, offered these territories as a payment.
But great song anyway, it's part of History after all !
@ingen I also really enjoy "La Strasbourgeoise", it's a bit similar to "Vous n'aurez pas l'Alsace et la Lorraine" but way more powerful in the way the story is told, you really should add it :D !

@VoltigeurFR I agree on the fact that Germany had interest in these territories. Yet, it's a current misconception that it was taken by force. Of course it wasn't France first intentions, but it ended up like that so France wouldn't have to pay for compensation... The "revanchist" ideas that spread up between 1871 and 1914 were mostly to cover up the fact that the french State gave it by itself, and willingly.
If you're interested (I guess you are yourself French, but let's stick to English so other people can read us properly if you agree), here is a short text written by an Alsatian modern deputy about Alsace-Moselle and the French-German relations.

@@biodidu25 🤮🤮🤮 if you actually care to look into the history of why Wallonia exists in the first place is because it was conquered under French nationalism wanting to expand to the Rhine (the same reason Elsaß-Lotharingen is in France today), but if you actually look closer it was just a country bordering France and it had most connections to the Germanic countries because most of them spoke Flemish but that was later banned under the French. people who say it should be French have totally forgotten why Wallonia is French in the first place and that it is an idea that doesn't have any historical claim to back up annexing that territory.
and the reason that Belgium exists in the first place is because of a fuckup of a Dutch king and because the Walloons and French (not the Flemish) supported Belgium becoming independent.
it only feeds an ancient idea that has no historical claim whatsoever.

Something I find admirable. Culture, values etc must be fought for and defended. Alsace lorraine is similarly part of the French entity.
