from what i understand
Dot as a child had to go Wales during the war for safety and she was placed with her Auntie Gwen and Uncle Will.
Uncle Will was disappointed that they were given Dot as he would’ve preferred a boy.
Dot tried her best to make uncle Will like her as her auntie Gwen loved Dot. And this caused lots of arguments between Gwen and Will as they were unable to have children of their own.
Dot took their dog out for a walk one night and the dog got caught in a trap. She ran and asked uncle will to help and he ended up shooting the dog (as they did with animals in those days). He then blamed Dot for the fact the dog had to die.
Later that night Dot wished her uncle will would die and made a prayer to god to get rid of him.
The next morning uncle will crashed his truck and died. This made auntie Gwen upset and Dot felt extremely guilty so she ran away and her auntie gwen never saw Dot again until these scenes shown.
In these scenes Dot explains about her prayer she made all those years ago and her auntie gwen tells her god doesn’t have the power to answer to those types of prayers and that her uncle will’s death was not her fault.
