Oh Happy Day - Ostrava Sings Gospel 2015

110 singers, 11 member band, 6 rehearsals, 3 Advent concerts for over 1,500 people - in short, that’s Ostrava Zpiva Gospel (Ostrava Sings Gospel).
OZG started in 2013 with a vision to create and Advent Gospel concert for anyone who wanted to try singing in a gospel choir. There are no auditions, anyone can apply, first come, first served. This year all 110 places were filled within 10 days of opening registration, and the entire concert was created within 6 rehearsals. The members of the choir make up a real cross section of Ostrava’s inhabitants. Aged from 16-68, some with no experience in singing in any choir and many not even able to speak English, they all have one thing in common - a growing love for Gospel music and the willingness to learn 13 songs within 4 weeks. They are accompanied by the band which is made up of well known Ostrava-based musicians who also have a growing love for this genre of music.
The OZG concerts are lively, include a lot of audience participation, and a short presentation of the Gospel, which is what the songs are all about. Although we are a new project, we have gained a lot of momentum, and look forward to what the future brings.
